I"m enjoying myself but not totally because I have been warned about pickpockets and all so half the time I keep touching my zips, bags, pockets to see if I lost anything whenever I go.

Walking around with the bagpack in front is killing my back. I know how all our moms suffered now... :x

I can"t wait to see the draw so I can comment! :p However, the connection here is really slow. It took me nine minutes to enter and answer you after I saw that you posted. :tape:

Galbraith seeks wildcard--hopes to return from Bacterial Meningitis
http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Heather+Watson+ASB+Classic+Day+3+fRgdJKblT3Gl.jpg
One of the home favorites who has been watching from the sidelines--due to a bout of Bacterial Meningitis which has left her sidelined for a better part of the past month. The illness was quite sudden and it could have been fatal to Lindsay--yet she managed to fight through the illness--and is now making preparations to return to her favorite tournament of the year at Wimbledon where she hopes to carry the glorious Union Jack. With the weight of a nation on her shoulders--and the aftermath of a month of bed rest--Lindsay Galbraith will do her best to shoulder the hopes of many by destroying the aspirations of others when Wimbledon begins. As a young rookie on the tour--Lindsay has impressed many of her peers with her likable attitude--a never say die attitude as Lindsay is one of the best fighters out there--and hopefully her resilience continues to grow stronger as she has just battled off a life threatening disease. With the hope of nations and the entire deaf community watching on Lindsay Galbraith will hopefully continue to battle for a better future--and to be an inspiration to all--and this can only start if the All England Club grants the local with a Wild Card. Be warned--everyone not from Britannica shall fall before the Ironwoman Lindsay Galbraith--because she is just one woman fighting for many...she is one woman fighting to make the lives of deaf kids everywhere better by gaining more recognition that the barriers that do exist can be broken down. Come the end of the Championships...all shall see...Britannica shall rule the waving grass of SW19.

Hello campers, la di da! This is Annabel Croft speaking.

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01423/annabelCroft_1423041c.jpg

We have Wimbledon ahead of us and we have last year ladies doubles winner Emilia Jarocka-Pottinger from Canada.

Hello Emilia. Tell me please what are your thoughts before Wimbledon? Are you confidence? I know you have won 2 tournaments this year, didn't you? But not with Mia?

Emilia: Good day. How are you? Well yes I have won two tournaments, glad you got facts right. One was with Yanina last week in Birmingham. I have to say it bust a confidence but you never know. Everything can happen. With Mia we are playing doubles in Eastbourne as a warm-up so we will see.

In Birmingham you lost to Harper a very tough match. Was you very upset after it. You both played great, but Harper is more experience, isn't she?

Emilia: I went to Birmingham with a huge slump, so the fact I did beat Wong and Mbangu was great. Harper played great tennis and deserved a win.

Yes, you hardly won a match this season, so it must have been devastated going to Birmingham, not you favourite surface, wasn't it?

Emilia: Yes, I mean funny you say that, because who if not you could understand losing so many matches in a row, right. No pressure, just playing my game. Great week I would say.

You and Mia plan to play doubles toghether still? I know you said soemthing about having a baby, and she got divorced, didn't she?

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/598/8261704irvin.jpg

Emilia: I still think if tennis does not work out for me I will retire and have kids. I am happily married so it is obvious I have desire to have kids. I have had so far great season in doubles so maybe that is what hold me still, and yes definetly I am going to play with Mia she is such a sweetheart and really good friend of mine. And excuse me but I will not discuss her private life.

Here in Eastbourne you are playign against Mbangu. You beat her last week, do you think you will do it again? Alot of people say she is future number one, is she?

Emilia: I have played her few times, and I think my last week win was my first. You never know with her, she might be on her period and loss or win with a great style. I must admit I was surprised she is ranked so high. She is playing alot of MM tournamenst must be that. As for number one ranking, this is not my vote that count but I would rather not see her on top.

Well thank you for a wonderful chat, and see you on courts. Good luck.

Emilia: Yes, thank you.

Alexandra, first of all congratulations on getting to your first senior tournament.

Thanks a lot, Chris. The opportunity arose when the tournament organization here at Wimbledon offered me an entry. It's probably very uncommon to start your senior career at a Grand Slam, especially when it's Wimbledon, my personal favorite Grand Slam, although grass isn't my best surface at all. Wimbledon just has this awesome vibe all around itself.

Your change to the senior tour came as a surprise though too many of the tennis critics. They say you'd be better of gaining some more talent on the Juniors Tour first.

I ve heared the criticism of these so called 'connaisseurs' as well. But I can't see why I can not learn more here on Senior tour where I ll be able to learn more from much better players a lot faster. I know I will probably have some mental upsets first few months but I am prepared for that and I ll knock myself through.

There is however no denying in the fact that even on the Juniors tour the results weren't actually that great.

No, that's true. But I want to give tennis everything I ve got at the moment and learn as much possible the next year. I basically have to, because to be fair, I don't have a whole lot else to go with besides tennis.

Is there anything you'll miss about the Juniors tour?

Obviously the atmosphere is a lot more relaxed on the Juniors tour. I had a really good connection with Saikikimbondwe on and off the court, but I hope to see her on the seniors tour someday too. although I don't know where her ambitions lay. And I guess I ll learn to love the Seniors tour as well in the near future once I get to know some of the players a bit better. For the moment I feel a bit overwhelmed by the star status of them. To play against the players that made me pick up a tennis racket when I was just a little girl, is an absolute dream.

What are your expectations for your first Senior Tournament?

Well in singles i don't have much hope to be honest, we'll see how it goes, but I haven't set any goal yet for myself there. Would be nice to get a chance to play one of the top players on one of the showcourts, so that my family and friends in Greece could see me play. In mixed doubles I am participating just to gain experience and I am really glad an extreme talented and experienced player like Olli Rochus came to me to play together. although I expect my coach might have something to do with that since they are both Belgian and go way back. I hope i can pick-up something from Olli because he managed to find a way to play against the powerhouses and physical stronger players, something I ll be confronted with myself from now on. In ladies doubles I am still searching for a partner, but I hope to get a confirmation on that soon

Thanks a lot Alexandra and best of luck during the upcoming tournament.

Thanks a lot, Chris.

Siri Cornetsson in search of self confidence for Wimbledon

http://img.lequipe.fr/Medias/Tennis/201005/650x475/alize-cornet-en-plein-doute.jpg
Full of doubts: Siri Cornetsson in need of a confidence booster

Those are certainly not the ideal circumstances for a good run at Wimbledon; Siri Cornetsson hasn't won a singles match in the warm up grass tournaments and will fall out of top 10 in next week's singles ranking. She made a really depressed impression when we met her before the third Grand Slam of the season.

Q: Siri, how do you feel today?
Siri: I have never felt better. No, in all honesty, I feel bad. I am getting tired of all these losses and it's really frustrating that everytime I get closer to top 5 I suck for weeks afterwards.

Q: You seemed to be on the right way back to your top form. 3 semifinals out of 4 tournaments before Roland Garros. What went wrong afterwards?
Siri: I was really motivated to do well in Roland Garros but I suffered a really close three set loss against tricky player Rita Cebolla in my opening match. I was hoping for some good results during the grass season but it's just getting worse and worse.

Q: You have often stated about how much you love the grass season. In 2008 you played a stellar grass season with three semifinals or better in the three events, last year you played a strong preparation with back to back semifinals in Birmingham and Eastbourne but got an opening round exit in Wimbledon.
Siri: I like playing on grass and I would love nothing more than getting back to Wimbledon final but I am afraid it will just be another huge frustration like it was last year.

Q: You were in a similar slump in 2009 but managed to get back on track in 2010 with a very good fall season? Do you think this experience of coming back can help you now that you are suffering these losses again?
Siri: The successes of the fall season seem so far away to be honest. It was a hard piece of work to get back to top form. I had struggled alot and even wanted to retire at the beginning of last season but then I began to fight and peu ŕ peu found my self confidence again. I will keep on fighting this time too but a good run at a big event is really needed. Soon all the huge points will come off and it will be even more difficult.

Q: Let's talk about something different then. In doubles you are currently ranked number 4 and you don't have anything to defend at Wimbledon?
Siri: We have just lost our top seed position to Taliamanosoko and Casanova last week who are really in top form at the moment. It's also astonishing that Paula Masterton is still on number 2 of the doubles rank despite playing only few events this season. It's going to be really interesting to see if we can make new carrer high ranks in doubles or not.

Q: Your doubles partner has finally turned it around and has reentered top 10.
Siri: It's really nice that Harper is having good results again as she is such a hard worker. I am happy for her. Nobody was expecting such a run from her at Roland Garros and she surprised everybody. Maybe "unseeded and looming" is the key of success on the FWTT.

Q: What do you think of the introduction of the juniors tour.
Siri. I think it's a good idea from the organizers to come out with some new innovations. I've heard we had junior events ages ago though but ignore the facts why it got abolished. It was before my time.

Q: Good luck in Wimbledon Siri. Keep your head high.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/drimal_/otherRosamundPike400x300.jpg
Miranda Frost brings a breath of fresh air to the tour

After the low confidence interview with Siri Cornetsson we met a young player who was all smile - Miranda Frost, the 15 year old junior who won a surprise match in Copenhagen qualy last week.

Q: Miranda, how do you feel today?
Miranda: I feel really good, thanks. Had a nice practice session on grass yesterday and visited London which is really a fascinating city.

Q: You are playing both Wimbledon events, the Junior and the Senior.
Miranda: That's right. I am really excited for Wimbledon. In senior I will go out and enjoy the atmosphere. It would be a sensation if I could beat a senior player at a Grand Slam but I am ready for it. In juniors I will look from round to round and hope to go as far as possible. My mission will be: Lose another Day.

Q: Have you followed the tour during the last years?
Miranda: I have witnessed Sweden winning Fed Cup last season. I will go cheer again for our team in the final, hope they can win the trophy again. I remember when I started following the tour there were some really strong players like Eva Sorrenta or Caroline Whitten who were literally dominating the tour. When I was 12 my father took me to Wimbledon final between Whitten and Cornetsson.

Q: Good luck In Wimbledon, Miranda.

After a good result on the grass at Eastbourne last week, Anastasia Nemayeva arrived in London to compete in the third Grand Slam of the season. In the last season, Nastya reached to final in doubles.

I like this city, this tournament and all that tradition. Also, I'm fine wearing white. :dance:About the choice of seeds, Nastya was quite sarcastic.

"They seem drunk. Maybe I'll be the first seed here. :oh:"

Kane looking to regain confidence at The Championships.

http://img815.imageshack.us/img815/5939/myaharrisonphoto56.jpg

Two time Eastbourne winner Athea Kane had always managed to rise for a week on the grass but this year, her play was more an illustration of why she has dropped out of the top 10 than a showcase of her abilities on the surface she loves.

"This season has been really weird for me. Made four finals not winning a single one. And when the highlight of a season is NOT winning, you know something's wrong."

Few seeds have been announced but with her recent fall in the rankings, Kane does not believe that she should be seeded.

"I do have two titles on grass but this year i'd feel like taking someone else's spot. I feel like i need to earn the wins, face tough draws. It may get me going."

Wimbledon, is for Kane, a special tournament. Winner of last year's French Open, Kane always clearly said that her ultimate dream would be a win at the All-England Club.

"When i was a kid, i had two dreams. I didn't want to be american, i wanted to be a New Yorker, and i didn't want to win a slam, i wanted to win Wimbledon. As you grow up, you learn and i'm absolutely thrilled to have won Roland Garros. But as my british grandma used to say, there's always a star which shines a bit more in your heart and mine is called Wimbledon."

Stars, she had plenty in her eyes while telling us about her dream, but it will take a lot of them to align for Kane to win Wimbledon. She has the game, no one doubts that, but something has been missing for few months now and she has yet to find another winning formula.

"Watch me lose first round, LOL", laughs Kane, as she leaves with a big smile.

Good luck, Miss Kane... keep smiling.

Caroline Smith talks about her heoroes, experience and future.

" Tennis has given me so much. Not only has it given me money to live and some fame, but fun, relationships and maturity. Looking back I started my career dating Justin Bieber and being a worthless slut that no one cared about to now. I have helped a bit with the junior tour, donated a lot to charities and made friendships. I have left my parents and am living and taking care of my sister Anna. My parents are twisted and it's a good decision I think. My heores will always be Nthama and Ruffy. Their devotion, help and love is so inspiring. I think I have developed a good relationship with them but I'm not sure. A dream of mine is to play doubles with them but I still have a lot of fun with awesome Athea. I don't have expectations for myself except to be happy and keep smiling. Because that's what matters the most.

Despite a very low seeding given by the Officials of Wimbledon, Jennifer Casanova still looks forward to the 3rd Grand Slam of the Season:

"You know, I was really shocked when I saw the seeding, going down from 6th to 15h, but that's Wimbledon, it even makes it more special. I was the 15# seed when I won the French Open in 2009, so I might be lucky again. I'll take the positive out if it and and I'm looking forward to proove that I can play on grass as well as I never really had some good results here."

Kartincova arrives in London (at last)http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/510/80350.jpg
Martine Kartincova arrived in London earlier today to put an end to increasing speculation that last years winner would not try and defend her title.

After accepting a wildcard into a tournament into a grass warmup in Holland last week and not even turning up, there was speculation that the defending champion would not play Wimbledon. The Czech star has been uncontactable for the past 3 weeks ever since losing in the 3rd round at Roland Garros to Annalise Benedetti of Italy. Even her long-term doubles partner, Luna-Willow Bartoli has admitted that she didn’t know where Martine had disappeared to. It has also been revealed that she didn’t even enter Wimbledon originally and only contacted organisers after the entry deadline to ask for a place in the draw.

Controversially seeded second here, the world number 14 has had a dreadful 2011, compiling a 9-18 record and has looked disinterested at a number of events barely trying in several of her matches. Looking tired and surly, the 23year old refused to be photographed or even speak to reporters as she landed and it appeared that SW19 was the last place she would rather be.

She may be the defending champion and the number 2 seed but few people would even back her to win her opening match. She begins her campaign against Hafdis Bjork Runarsdottir of Iceland, a player who beat her in Rome earlier this year.

Giuseppina Benedetti: B*tch Gone Crazy?

Giuseppina Benedetti at the 2011 Wimbledon Players' Party

The time was a little past 10 AM here in London and the majority of the seeds had been revealed and placed in the draw. With the Brits having raised former champion and hometown heroine, Paula Masterton from her unseeded ranking, as well as Yelena Pirilenko, it was clear that two of the top sixteen ranked players in the world would be left without seeds at the biggest tournament of the year. The first was a no brainer: Sylvie Bailly, who had ascended to the number one ranking to begin the year was not entered due to injury (although some say it is due to mental health issues). As the seeds began to be placed on the board, and sighs of relief were heard around the room, it became uncomfortably apparent that all eyes were beginning to converge on one woman: Giuseppina Benedetti. Benedetti, known for perhaps desiring her first grandslam title more than any other girl on the tour (except for possibly Regla Torres, bless her heart), was clearly aware of what was about to go down as well. She anxiously watched, growing more and more visibily agitated. After the final seed was placed, Benedetti appeared to be on the verge of tears, thwarted by the Wimbledon seeding selection committee, which made far bolder movements of seeds than they had ever done before. The Italian, ranked 10th in this week's rankings, found herself on the outside looking in, something that was an unenviable position. Still, despite her obvious distress, nothing out of the ordinary appeared to be going down at the All England Club.

Soon the rest of the draw was placed. A slight gasp came over the crowd a couple of times: first for the matchup of known enemies, Vittoria Perez and Candela Sanchez. Then, as the name was pulled to find out who would battle Paula Masterton in her final Wimbledon, another gasp was heard. Many insist that the gasp came mostly from Benedetti's camp, but either way, there was an odd pause, then Giusa stood up and yelled something about "bullshit" and ran out of the room, knocking over a table with water and tea on her way out. After a few moments of hushed confusion, the room broke into gossip, though tournament director and tour director Josh tried to continue as though nothing happened.

To fill you in with gossip (I wouldn't leave you hanging)...I asked several players their opinions on what is going on with the fiesty Italian:

One French player, known for being the queen on gossip on the tour, merely laughed and said "Pardonne moi, who"?

"I heard she ate a half of a crumpet at the players' party and then ran to the bathroom to throw it back up. Poor girl, she needs some meat on her bones, and some sort of surgery to the head. What type of inhumane fool throws away half of a perfectly good crumpet"? This was the response of the heaviest and most robust girl of the top five (maybe even of the top fifty).

A player from Botswana, who once played for the tiny island country of Nauru, added a new angle to the story: "It has to be the syphilis". When asked about what she meant, this top player responded, "Oh, didn't you know? Her low self esteem last year caused her to be a bit of a slut for a while, I encouraged it, she was always way too innocent and boring anyways. Now she's got syphilis. It's the syphilis that is making her crazy".

A former top ten player in England to watch the tournament lamented a different approach: "The girl is obviously going through a rough patch in her life. It isn't any of your business or my business. May God bless her and help her. I think I will go bake her a pie".

Wanting to hear from the horse's mouth, I decided to call Benedetti's camp. Not surprisingly, her publicist declined to speak with me. Dejected, I began writing this piece, but then a shocking thing happened. My phone rang, and it was Giusa, herself. She said she just wanted to clarify some things.
On the outburst:
"I just found it really disappointing that Wimbledon decided to not seed me. It just seemed unfair, as I had put in the hard work to be the tenth best player in the last year. I understand putting a little bit of emphasis on grass court results, but ultimately this year is this year. It seems like they completely changed the seeding however they wanted. I don't feel like I was the only one who got screwed; I think some of the other girls who got their seedings bumped drastically was a bit unfair. The seeding changes were so much more drastic than last year. Last year I think I might have got bumped one spot, and my previous Wimbledon results were even worse than my 2nd round loss from last year. Then to top it off having to play Paula in the first round, it just felt like the kicker".

"I am at such a disadvantage because for one, Paula is a great player and especially on grass. Not only do I have to battle that, but I have to battle having every fan on center court cheering against me. Even the girls in the lockerroom will be against me as Paula is well liked and it is the end of her career. Heck, even if I outplay her I feel like the linesmen would make sure I still lost."

On the claims of her eating disorder:

"Any time a girl loses weight there is always going to be that speculation. It is a huge shame and a huge disservice to all women in our society. To make it worse, it is usually other women that start the rumors. I wouldn't be able to play professional tennis if I wasn't taking care of my body".

On the syphilis:

"Haha, I don't know where you heard that, but I can assure you that the syphilis has not affected me. I mean, I don't have syphilis, so it couldn't affect me. That is simply absurd".

The conversation was short and she refused to answer any other questons. My non-professional (but uncannily accurate) conclusion, bitch is a crazy, anorexic, syphilis-ridden, and cracked out tramp. Or maybe not.

Of course, I don't think that kind of thing happens here :)
If you have 2 sets of different doubles points, you make the average. So if there is 105 and 100, the average is 102. 5 ;)

And just to clarify, no I don't cheat :p

I want the game to be successful and I know I would play a game in which I thought people cheated. ;) It is almost impossible for a junior to win as long as the pro plays smartly :D

Kartincova remains in hospital
Martine Kartincova is tonight spending a second night in hospital after her dramatic collapse yesterday. It is thought that the Czech is in a stable condition although there has been no confirmed news about exactly what is wrong with her.

Meanwhile, there are a number of rumours circulating and there are reports coming out of Prague tonight that the defending Wimbledon champion failed a drugs test at Roland Garros which would explain her absence from s'Hertogenbosch last week and a fact that was seemingly confirmed by tour newcomer Alexandra Anastidis who was overheard telling other players that she had seen Kartincova injecting a needle into herself earlier that day.

Whatever the reason it is looking extremely unlikely that Kartincova will be able to play her first round match although she is lucky that she isn't scheduled to play on the first day so will have another 24 hours to recover.
