First stop Birmingham in main draw next week! :bounce:

Followed by Eastbourne in Q! :D

Pity that she couldn't play the ITF in Nottingham this week because of her third round at Roland Garros...

Good luck, though! :cheer:

I think it´s not a pity Sori couldn´t play Nottingham because she could take some rest after the French Open and be fresh and ready for Birmingham... not sure if she plays Q at Eastbourne because I haven´t found a qualies entry list on the official website...

but anyway good luck in Birmingham, Sorana! looking forward to the shortest part of the season.. tournaments on grass are so nice and exceptional

Kick ass on grass!

I hope she does also! Last time I saw her on grass she got blasted off court in tears by Kvitova

At least she wasn't the only player of last year's Wimbledon who got blasted off the court by Kvitova. :oh:

Sori's chances of a run in Birmingham will rise after the withdrawals of Sharapova, Bartoli and Hercog! Some more and she would be even seeded! :oh:

Damn :fiery:

Hantuchova and Peng are the only players left in the draw which I would definitely expect to beat Sori in any case... :o

But Chang on grass could be tricky, too. Let's hope she prevails :)

well done, Sori!:D so happy for her... now she´s facing Daniela it´s going to be very tough but I guess it could be a three set match... Sori is playing better and if she loses to Daniela that won´t change that fact she has been improving

It's still a long way to go and the rain breaks didn't help her either... :o

Good luck in Eastbourne qualies, though! :)

A report from her match against Hantuchova:

What a RIDICULOUS situation this match was. After the first rain delay they came out and knocked up 3 times, only for it to start raining again right at the end of the knock up. It only actually rained for about an hour total all day but it would be every 45 minutes, for 10 minutes, and then for some stupid reason they had the grounds-staff clearing the practice courts and the outer courts *before the main*. Ugh.

Anyway, they both took it well, laughing and joking with the umpire. Start of the match was all Cirstea misses, she was just terrible. Then, after 8 mins of play (because Danka had kept everyone waiting as per usual ) the rain spurts started.

So, cut-to 4 and a half hours later and at 4pm it gets under way. Cirstea is still sucking. I turned to the bloke next to me at 4-0 and said, of Dani, "I can't even tell if she's playing well or not". She was basically stroking everything around at 3/4 speed, keeping good length, moving Sori around waiting for the error, and hitting the occasional winner. Very professional.

Second set Dani came out and was poor, especially on Sori's service. Sori hit a handful of winners, and Dani helped her out with some sloppy errors to get it to 2-2, which set up the decisive game of the match.

First point was a super point - Dani was losing it but got inside Sori's head, reading where she was going to go for the put away and then on the next shot hit a super forehand up the line on the stretch. Next point she hit another forehand winner up the line but in much more regulation fashion. So, 0-30, but then Sori hit a winner on her next point, and then at 15-30 there was a great point with Dani on the defensive, hoisting up a lob, Sori retrieving it before crushing a forehand winner after Dani's next shot. Next up I think (because half a day under an umbrella has fried my brain) a couple of Sori errors, at 30-40 you could see her shoulders slump and her body language was terrible, and she errored on the next point to be broken - that break was the nail in the coffin and it was regulation from there on out.

Sori errors to finish on the break, she'd gone by this point, looked very disinterested.

So, overall Dani wasn't taxed *at all*, had a little spell where she didn't play well, but did what she had to and always looked the winner. Wasn't overly impressive, some nice winners here and there, serve okay, forehand working well, but it didn't have to be impressive - she just got the job done quickly, which given the weather being so unpredictable was absolutely the way forward.

Sori, it's just not her surface and she never looked confident, or able to go for her shots.

WTA Eastbourne, Qualifying Draw:

(1)Vesnina vs. Craybas
Lucic vs. Shvedova
Lepchenko vs. Cirstea
Keothavong vs. (8)Cornet

Qualifying here could become very tough!

Anyway, is Lepchenko supposed to be a good grass courter?

Cirstea
Jun 12th, 2011, 11:10 AM
It was never really a contest to be honest. Sori always looked in control, even when Lepchenko tried pulling a medical time out before the change of ends. It was played quite late and in quite cold conditions by that time and you could sense Sori just wanted to win and get out of there.

Hope she can get into the MD as the field in Eastbourne is very strong this year, could be a great tournament for her :)

Anne Keothavong def. Sorana Cîrstea 6:3 6:3 :o

Just when things started looking better...
60 points from her last year second round go off now!

You can't win a match on grass with 50% first serves

By the way, she won more points on Anne's second serve on grass! :weirdo:

Against Parmentier in Wimbledon R1 :)

Curcubeu
Jun 17th, 2011, 10:57 AM
(22) Peer - Pervak
Cirstea - Parmentier
qualifier - qualifier
Arn - (11) Petkovic

My honest opinion, couldn't be much better for an unseeded player!

Please, don't mess it up!

HowardH

True. It's about as good as it gets for an unseeded player.

Parmetier is in-form player but on grass Sorana can outplay her. And second round is also winnable, but all depends of Sorana.
