The Rising Young American Caroline Smith(RETIRED)
Bit of Info about career: Started off 2011 (her career) badly losing most matches. She headed IW with a 2-6 WL record but turned it around at a bit winning 3 matches in a row with some comebacks and upsets. She however didn't develop consistency as she lost in round 1 of her next two tournaments. She made another Quarter-Final at Charleston pulling of the biggest win of her life against Rufflina Taliamanosoko after being bageled in the first set. Caroline began to develop more concistency as she got a tough three set win at Stuttgart before losing in R2. Caroline has began to win 1-2 matches each tournament on clay and hopes to start going further in tournaments. She made her only doubles splash with Athea Kane when they shockingly came and won the Rome title. Athea/Caroline is currently a permanent partnership. Caroline entered a slump after losing in the second round of the French Open and did not win a match in singles or doubles until wimbledon. Caroline had some nice results on the ending her 3 tournaments with a win loss of 6-3 and scoring a huge victory over 2011 RG and Wimbledon champion Pamela Bowdon and reaching her first singles semi-final in petange. After a disappointing Hard Court season, Caroline entered the US Open with a very tough draw. She defeated RG Semi-Finalist Brenda Gaga-Maduga before losing to title favorite Siri Cornesston in three sets. In doubles and mixed doubles she lost in the second round. In Quebec she lost first round in singles but partening Jookrae Mensarb won the doubles title. Right before her final match she learned her younger sister had been murdered and dedicated the final to her and vowed to win. Smith and Mensarb will be playing together for the rest of the 2011 Season. Caroline Smith retired at the end of 2011 saying "My short time in FWTT was short but sweet with it's ups and downs but now it's time for me to move on."

Just arrived in Paris after relaxing and practicing lightly (I needed it badly). Had a french burger which tasted amazing! Got ambushed by 14 year old boys asking for my autograph! Gotta love being a tennis player. Going out with a bunch of friends who came with me from SF! Allez!

Paired up with singles defending champion Athea Kane after our amazing Rome title. I wish her luck in her quest to defend her title. I play Fatima Mayou who I have beaten 1-2 times now. I hope for a great tournament. I also just saw that Maddonna an Opreah picked me to win my way into the quarter-finals! That would be awesome! Anyway I have been doing serious work on my serve and it is actually improving now! I am about to go to dinner and then a party! Can't wait to get onto the court!

Won my Match 7-6(6) 6-1 hitting 28 winners and only 15 UE's. It was a pretty solid performance and i'm happy with myself. I now have a long rest which I am looking forward too. Anyone know a good place for Pasta? i'm also playing mixed doubles with my brother Dan Smith who is currently ranked 2 on the men's tour. I'm looking forward to playing more!

Caroline suffers painful exit.
Caroline suffered a painful exit today as she lost 12-10 in the third set leaving the court in tears. She refused to be interviewed.
Before that match the Rome champs Caroline and Athea Kane won 14-12 in the 3 set.

Caroline breaks down on the court during her doubles
Caroline Smith broke down on the court today during her doubles match and against close American friend Harper J who she played Fed Cup with and Siri C. She missed a overhead during her match and fell into the clay crying. She was comforted by Athea and after receiving a warning for wasting time. She refused to be interviewed. During her interview Athea said that it was a personal problem but would not say would it was. "She will tell when she's ready". Caroline seems to be having problems and is not posting and her whereabouts are unknown currently.

It was a tough tournament for me and i'm having some family problems so my breakdown was not tennis releated. Honestly I don't feel like competing in the grass season but I have too and have three tournaments coming up. I have arrived in Birningham and have to play qualies which sounds even worse. I feel sick and really the last thing I want to do is go and play tennis. But i'm already committed so...

I'm feeling a bit better and praying for a win to boost my confidence. My serve is holding back my game on grass. After my loss in Birniingham I practiced a lot. I hope it will show.
Caroline Smith won her match 7-6(7) 6-1 ended her ugly losing streak and gained some confidence today. We caught up with her after her match. She kissed the grass at the end of the match.
Q:Hello Caroline. We understand you have been having family problems. How did it feel to finally get that win today?
A: That feeling was amazing. I couldn't believe how well I served not being broken and pulling out on an ace to save a set point at 6-7. Honestly I overreacted a bit with happiness but the after watching my life crumble around me in the last month I think I was right to do so.
Q: What is your goal to accomplish at wimbledon? How far do you expect to go?
A: Well I think I was really hoping for one win which I got today because of my draw. I am facing the fifteenth seed Yelena Pirelenko who is really good and I also met her at the players party and seems extremely nice. I want to fight and make it comepetetive. Of course I want to win though.
Q: How do you think you are hitting your groundstrokes lately?
A: I think the forehand is really strong and steady right now. My Backhand has been letting me down a lot lately. It just doesn't seem to be steady or consistent. But my movement is great so I can run around it a lot.
Q: How to think your relationship is with the players in the locker rooms?
A: I think mostly it's great. I like most of the girls and they are nice. A lot of them gave me support while I was struggling. Unfourtanatley while Giusa was having her uh "Episode" I went over to see if she was okay and she slapped in the face so i'm not sure about our relationship...
Q: Oh that's interesting, Well it was nice talking to you, Thank you. Good Luck in your next round,
A: Thank You.

Caroline says 2011 Season will probably be her last.
"The 2011 season will probably be my first and last season. After Candy attacked me I received so much death threats and flack even though there is video evidence. It has hurt my mentally as well as phiscallly. I most likely finish the season and say goodbye to the few who remain who don't hate my guts on the FWTT tour. I think my sister will be taking over the pro status and all I will ever ask of the people who despise me is to not take it out on her. She doesn't deserve it. For now I will finish this 2011 season and unless this season ends with a huge major change I will be gone. I don't think I will be missed anyway.
(Her retirement has not been confirmed yet and if it does I happen I myself will not be leaving FWTT.)

Slump No More! Caroline scores big wins and lots of confidence!
It looked pretty clear that Caroline loves the clay from earlier this year when she had good results but today she really showed it. She won her first qualifying match easily 7-6 6-1 with some strong groundstrokes. Caroline struggled early against Aveta Tenesova but bounced back winning 1-6 7-6 6-2 saving 5 match points. She shocked Wimbledon and RG champion Pamela Bowdon in three sets saving 3 match points. Tears of joy hit the clay after all that''s she's been through. In three matches she has hit 146 (32, 57, 59) winners and only 58 UE's. She stated after the match "Wow. I really can't believe i've been able to this today, It means so much to me. This was the best tennis of my life! Thank you so much for your support Budapest crowd!"

Caroline advances to the semi-finals of the ITF Petange.
Caroline: Sorry I haven't been posting myself very much but things have been really busy and my play has been great. I've continued it here in Petange with two three set wins and one upset over Annalisa Bendetti. The city is great and I love the clay despite my ball bashing. Clay helps with my serve witch is very weak. I am really aiming to take my first singles title here because I think now is my chance. My opponent tomorrow is Bernika who is very strong but if I play well I think I have a shot at the final and the title. Regardless of the result I am happy and I will break into the top 50 for the first time! It's all very exciting and I really hope I can grab the title. I will be blogging more soon!

After a much better tournament in San Diego, Caroline heads to Toronto.
Hey guys! I'm in Toronto with my BFF's Vittoria, Alexandra and Nthama! Unfourtantley I have to face a very good friend and a very good player Vittoria Perez . Anyways I don't expect to win but I would really love to play well and have a fun time on court. I was much happier in San Diego winning two matches in three sets. The one against my sister was bitter-sweet because I was down 1-6 0-5 0-40 and I defeated her. But I felt so bad to see my sister so distraught after a huge choke. And my next match was also a great fight as I won from 3-6 1-4 saving a match point at 4-5 and winning in three sets which was great. But we had a great run in doubles together making the semi-finals! She is so good in doubles. I am excited for my match here and playing doubles with Athea again! :) Love her! Also I am celebrating my break into into the 50 at 48! It's impressive considering i've only been on the tour for 6 months! I'll blog after my first round match!

[center]]Strong, Steady Caroline pushes past 16 seed Vittoria Perez in two tiebreakers.
Hey guys I had a great match today where I hit great ground strokes with steady serving. I am pumped as I have been playing really well lately and I am looking forward to my next match. I know it's a stretch but I'm really pushing myself to make a breakthrough and get to the quarter's or semi's. It's time to stop being happy with winning one match at each tournament. Today I showed that I can compete with some top players. Anyways back on today's match I hit 35 winners and only 15 UE's and ended winning 7-6(0) 7-6(0). In the tiebreakers I focused and played some great tennis. Overall it was awesome and I can't wait for tomorrow! :)

Good luck for tomorrow (R2) match at Toronto, Caroline ;) Fleri is waiting at the end of the court :p
Aug 14th, 2011, 03:13 AM
Tough Luck in singles, but shining in doubles.
Hey guys I wasn't able to beat Fleri but I pushed her to 3 and played a good match in the second round. Right after, Athea and I played some amazing tennis and easily dispatched of our opponents 6-1 6-3. We have so much fun together and earlier today we upset the 3 seeds and defeated them 7-5 6-3. I've really brought some great tennis here to toronto and I'm excited to see where it takes me in Cincinatti where I face Valerie Gallet in the first round. I will also be appearing in doubles with my sister Anna who received a MDWC. Anyways i'm pumped and excited for my doubles QF and hopefully blogging in celebration after. :)
P.S Sorry for being so short i'm in a rush.

Caroline and Athea keep going and march into the semi's.
Hey I played an awesome match today and we easily beat Bernika and Yanina 6-4 6-4. I find Yanina overrated but whatever. I was hitting very well off the baseline and kept my serve steady. I'm really happy Athea and I do so well in doubles together because I love her. We are in the semi's now and it's going to be tough but I believe we can take it if we play well. I also hit a tweener today and we won the point! I was super excited. :) I've really had a lot of success in doubles lately last week making the semi-finals with Anna. Anyways I'll blog after my SF and hopefully it will be in celebration!
