The OOP for Sunday is out, and Lucie vs Flipkens is third on court 6, so I decided to just make the thread  but since I am generally terrible luck, we can expect a loss :p

Anyway, I heard it's supposed to be windy tomorrow, so hopefully Lucie is able to handle that better than she has in the past. A comfortable win would be lovely

Lucie has some redeeming to do after last year and the match that will not be named with Hercog... Hopefully she steps up and plays some great tennis.

Davodus
May 22nd, 2011, 03:06 AM
Yes, yes she does  that match is still burned into my brain :o Maybe with less pressure and expectation this year she will play a little more freely here...lets hope so.

What match with Hercog? Seriously, I can't recall such a match... I'm not even joking :scared:. I'm scared to look it up for fear of jogging my memory. I'm experiencing some kind of selective memory phenomenon I suppose.

Good luck against Flipkens.

Yes you must be :p

Lucie is just about to start. Also, she and Krajicek drew Hantuchova/Radwanska in the doubles R1...tough draw  looks like she wont be defending her 2nd round doubles points.

Davodus

Lucie won the first set 6-1...hopefully she doesn't complicate things.

This is typical, Lucie is winning easily and there is no stream. :o Keep it up please!

6:1, 4:1 ... looks very promising, but I don´t wanna jinx her. :)

Davodus
May 22nd, 2011, 02:44 PM
6-1 6-1  from 1-1 in the 2nd when she went down 0-40 on her serve, she never looked back. Very good performance by the look of it.

I'm totally shocked with how easily she won, it's almost too good to be true. In any case job done already with points defended, and can look forward to the match against Goerges. Hopefully purple will be a winning colour for Lucie, she looks different with a plait, but still good. ;)

HowardH

Nice that she has already defended last year's points. Big hitting match-up coming up.

Hope Lucie is wearing the purple shoes as well. They're awesome!!!
Go Lucie!!!!

When Lucie is the underdog that means she will surprise us, she always play better when she is not the seeded player.

Matej
May 22nd, 2011, 06:01 PM
Let´s see how well will Lucie cope with Goerges´ strategic moonballs to her backhand. :) :)

Robert-KimClijst
May 22nd, 2011, 07:16 PM
I am excited for her next match! She may really struggle on her returns though.

Davodus
May 23rd, 2011, 04:25 AM
Well she always struggles on return  I'm shocked she was able to break that many times against Flipkens. If Lucie plays well, there is no reason she can't beat Görges...her FH CC will match up well into Görges's backhand...

Davodus
May 23rd, 2011, 05:03 PM
Lucie and Misa play their doubles 3rd on court 8 tomorrow against Hantuchova/Radwanska. It's good for Lucie to play doubles even if she loses, because otherwise she would've had 2 days off matches which might've been too much.

Davodus
May 24th, 2011, 03:07 PM
Lucie up first on court 2 tomorrow :o she is quite a slow starter early...and Tomas lost on that court :o so hopefully she can overcome those things. However, she and Misa just beat Hantuchova/Radwanska 6-7 6-3 6-2 :worship: Lucie lost serve in her first service game, then held every other time including serving for the match. That's a pretty good result.

May 24th, 2011, 03:10 PM
So i'm going... to see her
Great results in double, lucie winning a double a match is awesome :p!

Davodus
May 24th, 2011, 03:22 PM
Well she's made 2nd round of doubles 5 slams in a row now  Can't believe it  But cheer her on Laura! And I will watch out for you, and also make her win :p Don't let court 2 be the devil court.

sCoTt.ChE.
May 25th, 2011, 10:02 AM
What a mess of a first set. :help: Lucie isn't playing much better, just slightly more contained and doing a good job of going to Goerges' BH for UE'S.
Well she has a set and break but really needs to start playing a lot better that last game was awful. :o

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 10:06 AM
The positive so far is she seems very determined. But she needs to keep pressure on and holding her serve. Its been scrappy, but she's been better so she needs to keep being better.

sCoTt.ChE.
May 25th, 2011, 10:22 AM
Yes you're right if she can keep her nose in front but she's pushing her luck, good hold. I guess there's also the thing that when youre opponent isn't playing well it can drag you're own level down. Especially with not much rhythm. I just want her to get the match over before Goerges finds a good level.

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 10:25 AM
Lucie lost her break :o big pressure now. It had been a long time coming, she had been really struggling and just holding.

sCoTt.ChE.
May 25th, 2011, 10:38 AM
At least she's still in the set, but her BH hasn't arrived in the match yet. :help:

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 10:39 AM
And she loses the set :o what a massive chance lost. She has it, but she didnt keep it going and take her chance for a double break, and here we are.

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 10:46 AM
And now she wasted 15-40 to start set 3. I dunno how many chances she wants.

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 10:49 AM
And now down a break. Total collapse, but what else could we expect from her. Just like last year at the USO when she lead 6-2 4-1 and lost. She cant close out matches at slams sometimes, it's so frustrating.

sCoTt.ChE.
May 25th, 2011, 10:51 AM
Very much expected at the moment, unfortunately. Lucie had her chances to kill this match off whilst was Goerges was sleeping and now she is struggling to fire. She needs something to rev her up again because the match is slipping away.

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 10:54 AM
The BP at 3-1 is coming back to haunt her now. She didnt really take it on, and she has been struggling since. It's just frustrating, I wouldn't be mad had she lost from the start, but she totally had the match and she gave it away.

sCoTt.ChE.
May 25th, 2011, 11:01 AM
Yes, so many players would say thank you to an ugly and scrappy win from that point on but Lucie refuses to. :o
Now she leaves an impossible mountain to climb and can only hope her opponent falters which isn't the right way to win in any case.

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 11:02 AM
Yeah, I really don't get her. She just totally buckles when she has the match in slams. The minute some pressure is back on her, she crumbles and you can just always see it coming.

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 11:04 AM
Another thing, on return this set she has lost every single 30-30 point. Which have been every game (minus the first that she had 15-40 and wasted it). She just refuses to take chances.

sCoTt.ChE.
May 25th, 2011, 11:09 AM
I'll never understand it. It would be almost comical all these wasted chances and opportunites if I wasn't so much of a fan. :sobbing:

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 11:10 AM
Yeah, it's just depressing :sobbing: She should be in the locker room now, with a good win and a chance at R4

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 11:13 AM
Well, that's that then. Another massive choke to add to the list.

sCoTt.ChE.
May 25th, 2011, 11:23 AM
Heartbreaking. The worst part is that we spotted the opportunity early on when the game might turn because of mental fragility and she duly obliged. :hysteric:

In all honesty she played nothing near like what she's capable of and the victory wouldn't be much to celebrate on merit; but a grand slam win is what it's all about. Even in the Dokic match she fought whilst choking with aces and winners but there wasn't much there today.

Davodus
May 25th, 2011, 11:31 AM
Yeah, she was very flat but she was still winning...so all she needed to do was up her level a little at the end. But as you noted, we knew it was coming and pretty much right on time it came and she lost it. It was too obviously going to happen :o So disappointing, no wimbledon seeding so once again at the mercy of the draw.

HowardH
May 25th, 2011, 11:41 AM
Lucie . Didn't see it but sounds dramatic from all accounts.

sCoTt.ChE.
May 25th, 2011, 11:55 AM
Court 2 is officially off limits for both Lucie and Tomas now. :o

I'm trying desperately for positives, all I can think of is that she has very little to defend for the rest of the year and she will have a long preparation for the US Open, whether she does anything at Wimbledon or not. No first round exit at a grand slam so far this year either, clutching at straws I know!

I forgot to say congrats on the doubles yesterday both Lucie and Misa, that was unexpected. :)

Sasja
May 25th, 2011, 02:32 PM
Lucie

Couldn't watch it, but maybe that's for the best. Must be frustrating, all though missed chances :sobbing:

Robert-KimClijst
May 25th, 2011, 04:38 PM
She needs a big breakthrough at a slam where she beats a top player. Because right now I feel like it has become a mental hurdle... Her performance at slams is so mind-boggling.

Maybe she will win the doubles! Haha.

Davodus
May 27th, 2011, 03:27 PM
Lucie and Misa win again  2-6 7-6 6-0 after being 2-6 4-5 and 5-6 down. Then ran away with it  nice result, her best result in doubles at RG and never made it past the third round of a slam in doubles before. Vikkiri next, so they will lose but that's ok

lauraa00
May 27th, 2011, 04:00 PM
Ahhhhh great  I wish i could see her playing double because lucie at the net is pretty
Well they won against hantuchova and radwanska so we never know what can happened :p

Davodus
May 27th, 2011, 04:07 PM
I saw her a bit in doubles at AO over the years, it's funny because she just plays it like singles, but her serve is actually very effective for doubles  But it's always good to make R3 of a slam in doubles, so this is a good result I think.

lauraa00
May 27th, 2011, 04:12 PM
And is she effective at the net  ?
Is it just the second time that she is making the third round nope?

Davodus
May 27th, 2011, 04:14 PM
When the ball comes to her she tends to put it away easily...but from what I see she isn't particularly active at the net, she doesn't particularly look to cross...although there was more of it at this years AO I think because of Biljana. So maybe even more at RG

yeah AO 09 and now RG 11 in round 3 of the doubles  Lucie doubles GOAT :worship:

They lost 7-5 6-3  a shame, they had real chances in the first set, up a break twice...but just couldnt get over the line. But anyway, respectable scoreline against a good team in round 3 of a slam is pretty good I think.

On to Copenhagen!

Last year in Copenhagen Caroline showed poor play. She survived scary on her road to tittle because everyone expect from her to be winner without any problems. But Lucie can suprise her and hopefully reached SF/F/W.
By the way,Copenhagen is an awful tournament , shame they are still in circuit.Prague should replace it.
