View Full Version : Belgian cyclist Wouter Weylandt killed in Giro d'Italia crash

Wouter Weylandt, a rider for Team Leopard Trek, has died after crashing during the Giro d'Italia.

The 26-year-old Belgian crashed on the descent from the Passo del Bocco on Stage Three from Reggio Emilia to Rapallo near Genoa.

Television footage showed the Leopard-Trek rider lying on the ground and bleeding heavily. Doctors were seen cutting Weylandt's helmet before administering CPR treatment and shots of adrenaline.

After 25 minutes he was taken by helicopter to hospital where he was declared dead.

This is terrible. I'm still in shock. Such big prospects for the guy (his girlfriend pregnant, in a new good team, ...) and then this :sad: Life can truely suck :(

was listening Europsport live, poor guy... :sad:

saw so many terrible accidents on TV over the years, there is always chance something really bad happens. :rolleyes:

RIP, it was a bit of a weird crash and would have been pretty hard to avoid (unlike the one a couple of years ago when the guy wasnt wearing a helmet and landed on his head).

What a tragic day for the Cycling world, the cycling lovers and of course for the friends and family of Wouter Weylandt : dying in such horrific condition there's no word at all ! RIP Wouter Weylandt : We'll miss you !

I was really happy that I for once wasn't watching the race :o Wouter :sad: I met him once, he's such a cool great guy!

May you Rest in Peace, Wouter. Such a talent and bon vivant. I was completely shocked when I heard it at first. He was very beloved by many.
