Jane Wong prepare for Rome

Jane Wong is having a moderately successful season, after her infamous losing streak early this year, Jane Wong came back strong in clay seasons winning two titles, though that also include 2 first rounds loss.

"I still think there is a lot of room of improvement for my clay game". "I just trying to fine tune and get better."

"the competition is too great right now, every match is a fight, I hope I can do well in this competition."

Ask about her french Open chance. She admits that she has her demons in the tournament after 2004 season.

"In 2004, I won basically all the clay tournaments, around 6 tournaments coming into French Open and in the semi -final, I didn;t perform very well, after that I always lose in first and second round in French Open, so I hope I can improve it this year."

May 11th, 2011, 02:20 AM

Singles Results, Second Round

[1]Ziyi Zianzhi def. Harper Johnson 6/3, 6/3
Ziyi literally obliterated Harper today and showed us why she is the #1 player in the world.

[9]Siri Cornetsson def. Jookarae Mensarb 6/4, 7/6(1)
Siri hasn't done well lately so she really needed this win to keep herself in the top 10.

[12]Jennifer Casanova def. Berenika Wojnarowska 7/5, 0/6, 6/1
Jenn, despite being outplayed in the second set, keeps up her winning streak from Madrid.

Elena Skankhova def. [8]Sylvie Bailly 7/5, 6/0
Elena defeats the #1 player that is soon to drop out of the top 10.

Yoona Im def. [6]Athea Kane 3/6, 7/5, 7/5
Yoona gets a strong upset over the now top 5 Kenyan.

[16]Fleri Hingisafrilia def. Jessamine Minella 7/6(3), 6/0
Fleri wasn't at all confident but defeated Jessamine after a tight first set.

Pamela Bowden def. [14]Togtdyalttai Wachiramanowong 6/0, 7/5
Pamela continues her terrific week from last week with another strong win.

[3]Nthamangela Mbangu def. Cristina-Elena Vladimirescu 7/6(3), 7/5
Nthama wasn't confident but was able to knock off the Romanian in two tight sets.

Vittoria Perez def. [4]Giuseppina Benedetti 7/6(6), 4/6, 6/4
Vittoria gets an epically close win and Giusa's bad luck streak continues, much to the dismay of the Italians.

[15]Marteena Huubere def. Anastasia Nemayeva 6/3, 3/6, 7/6(4)
Marteena has been practicing very hard, as evidenced by this tight match against Anastasia.

Candela Sanchez def. [13]Yelena Pirilenko 4/6, 7/6(3), 7/5
Candy needed this one - she was on a bad losing streak.

Caroline Smith def. [5]Jane Wong 6/1, 2/6, 7/6(5)
Jane's inconsistency continues and Caroline continues her early round consistency.

Amita Maria Young def. [7]Luna-Willow Bartoli 6/4, 6/4
Luna falls in straight sets to the young Thai.

Hafdis Bjork Runasrdottir def. [10]Martine Kartincova 6/3, 1/6, 7/5
Hafdis gets another surprise win on the clay and this time against a top 10 player.

Cornelia du Preez def. [11]Verena Jameka Starr 7/6(2), 6/4
This all-African battle saw the younger upstart defeat the more seasoned player.

Sabine Graf def. [2]Ruflina Taliamanosoko 6/4, 2/6, 6/4
These two have played almost 15 times with a nearly even head to head. Both embraced at the end of the match because of the close relationship that these two original veterans have.

Candy came in with zero clay wins and now has three after this close match against Caroline.

Siri is back in form

Siri: "Winning a third consecutive Grand Slam doubles title would be a dream."

Siri Cornetsson is making headlines again, two weeks after defeating top 5 player Giuseppina Benedetti in Barcelona, the 21 year old Swede defeated the number 1 Ziyi Zianzhi in Rome after a great fight with 6:3 2:6 7:6(2).

"I started the season in the top 5 after a very good fall season and didn't have many points to defend in the first few weeks. But this season was totally different and I was far away from my best form which left me with frustration and my self confidence became lower with each early loss. Now I am on the verge of falling out of top 10 and thus a good run at a big event is very needed. I think the strong Fed Cup win with Mia over Australia helped me to believe in myself again. I played good tennis in Barcelona and here in Rome and got wins over high ranked opponents."

Siri Cornetsson will now meet Jennifer Casanova who is on fire as she has captured the Madrid trophy last week. It is the battle between the 2009 Roland Garros doubles champion and the 2009 Roland Garros singles champion.

In doubles Siri Cornetsson and Harper Johnson finally won a match again as they defeated Cebolla/Sanchez with 6:4 7:6(1). This victory ends a series of three opening round losses in a row.

"After our Australian Open doubles title we lost three opening rounds in a row too before making a couple of consecutive deep runs so I hope that we are peaking in time for Roland Garros. We don't put ourself under pressure of winning the third consecutive doubles Grand Slam but, you know, it is a dream."

May 13th, 2011, 09:53 AM
Wow Daria sucks at the highest level

May 13th, 2011, 11:17 AM

Fleri and Nthama have an interesting rivalry of the past and today it was a pretty quiet match between the two.

Candy beat her Spanish compatriot when Vittoria couldn't continue with a sprained ankle.

Amita Maria Young def. Sabine Graf 5/7, 7/6(3), 7/5

Q/A with Vittoria Perez

Q. What happened?
A. I can't deal with Candela's drama on the court, that's what happened. She complained to the umpire that the majority of Roman crowd supported me today.

Q. Why was she upset about the crowd took your side?
A. Because I'm so pretty. She's just an old hag who wants attention.

Q. Is that why you retired? Was it a fake injury?
A. Yes. I felt sorry for her, so I thought I should give her what she wants.

May 14th, 2011, 05:48 AM

Singles Results, Finals

Candela Sanchez def. [16]Fleri Hingisafrilia 7/5, 2/6, 6/3
The last time these two met in a final, it was not as grand as the Rome final (Bol 2003). There, Fleri easily dismissed Candy. But today in Rome, the Spaniard got revenge on the Aussie in a well fought match that saw many entertaining points and a great show of emotions from both players, particularly from Candela when she clinched the championship. It has been a rough past year for these two players, both of whom have been dominant forces on the tour. It was nice to see these two players battle it out for one of the tour's bigger titles.

Doubles Results, Finals

Kane/Smith def. Chan/Vladimirescu 6/4, 7/6(4)
In a doubles draw turned upside down after the quarterfinals, Athea, Caroline, Chantal, and Cristina-Elena were the survivors. The Romanian and Chinese pair have been quite successful on the challenger and international tour and have never had huge success at the bigger events. Meanwhile, Caroline and Athea randomly paired up and made quite a partnership. The Kenyan and American duo were able to utilize great serving and communication to take their first title on their first attempt together.

Wow! Stoked! Never imagined Caroline ever winning a doubles title let alone a premier 5!
Kane/Smith should definetley be permanent team for the tournaments we play together!

Kane/Smith too :)

The spanish player claimed this afternoon her most important title in her career, her first "Premier 5" event, beating veteran Hingisafrilia in a hard three sets match.

Candela didn´t come with too much expectatives to Rome as she came with five consecutive loses on clay "I just wanted to stop that bad results on clay where I always have played confortable and after I was winning each round I was feeling better and I did it"
"It's always a pleasure to play a big final with a player like Fleri and I think everybody enjoyed with our play today, I hope to repeat with Fleri next year"
A lot of rumours was talking about retirement of Sánchez after 2011 season, but after this win many people think that her game hasn´t finish yet.
"My goals this season was doing well to have a decent end of career, but then I won in Hobart in the very first of the season and gave me energy to think in more seasons, but some weeks ago I was totally sure about quiting at the end of the year because of my bad results, but victory is here again and in this historic event and I'm confussed now, don´t know what to say, just that I´m wishing to play Roland Garros, let´s see what happend"
