I dont think they are coming back. Sadly the golden year players of tennis (william sisters, pierce, davenport, hingis, clijsters) are about to wrap things up. Capriati, Henin and Dementieva are already gone. So I think you will see more the "new heads" more than the old school players. (sadly)

martina hingis interview

Hingis feet hurt, sightseeing tours before but enjoyed exhibitions

Currently plays tennis two to three times a week, free time is devoted to his other passion, also riding a horse. Former world tennis number one Martina Hingis and holder of five Grand Slam singles titles to jump appeared in Prague at the Stvanice Strabag Prague Open tournaments played an exhibition match with former Czech national team Daniela Bedáňovou.

"When I was last in Prague? So three or four years ago and Rožnov (place where the age of eight, lived), it is even longer. More often, there goes my mother," she said Hingis, who started his professional career finally ended in 2007.

Thirty born in Kosice The Swiss came to the Czech capital in a good mood, still speaks Czech fluently.

"In Prague, demonstrations and start my season, including Roland Garros and Wimbledon two more are waiting for me in England - Eastbourne and Liverpool," revealed its next program, which will also include performances in the team competition, the U.S. World Team Tennis, which will be its partner in Team New York, John McEnroe.

Martin, in what you come to Prague form?
We'll see. The first time you'll play on the center Štvanice. I've always had a dream to play here. As a little girl I played here, but always in smaller villages. And I was there to see the Davis Cup and Fed Cup. Otherwise, I was once in Prague (1995) playing against Jana Novotna, it was an exhibition, I do not know where. I remember there was the Mary Joe Fernandez. And then I love to remember the Prostejov, with whom I twice won the Extra-league. Team competition I always liked.

You've made through Prague?
Twice (laughs). For the first time on Friday. I went to Prague Castle, Wenceslas Square, and today (Saturday) I headed to the castle from the other side. Walk on two or three hours. My legs ached, but the exhibition would be enough.

Tourists learn about you?
Because I was in civilian clothes and less. Everyone looked more like the Castle and the sights around him before.

How often do you play tennis now?
So two or three times a week, according to the program. Prague starts my season exhibition. Three to four times a week, then ride a horse. Horseback riding has always been my hobby since eleven. Now, when not playing tennis I take more time.

Current tennis and watching what you say about performance Czechs?
I saw Petra Kvitova in the finals in Paris and I was surprised what a great match against Clijsters played. She played great. Tennis, of course I watch, but much less than before.

By the time you ruled the tennis world was unthinkable that one won grandslam. What do you call it, the first is now Caroline Wozniacki, who on his maiden title is still waiting?
Times have changed, but it's true. But I think it can. Although I do not know where the best chance, maybe on clay. It is lean and fierce. But respect should definitely be higher if some one grandslam won.

Career you have completed the first time in 22 years, yet you after three years returned again to the tip.
Maybe the break could be a bit shorter. But because I started early, then I had problems with his ankles. Finally, I'm glad I went back to sixth place in the world and once again he proved that I had the tip. I think that I have achieved a lot in my career, I'm proud.

Eastbourne tournament is way more important than Davenport and Hingis. They may be good for exhibitions and a few doubles. But exhibitions and a few doubles by former great players are a side-show and are not more important than the WTA tour.

And you think that Eastbourne tournament can 'sign up' Hingis and Davenport? Just to make things clear, between Davenport and Hingis they have about 120 million dollars (Hingis has 70 according to Forbes and I guess that Davenport has about 50), so the two of them could organize the Eastbourne tournament for the next 172 years.

Just a couple of comments on your irrelevant post.

First - the Eastbourne tournament has signed Hingis to play in an exhibition match there this year. Yep - there will be quite a few who get tickets to see her. But there will be many more with tickets for the rest of the tournament. And tickets still cost more for the final two days than for this exhibition at the beginning of the tournament.

Secondly  at you thinking that importance is solely down to how much money you have. You crack me up Sammo.

Hingis accepted because she's bored, not because she needs the money, so it's not like they 'signed up' Hingis, which almost looks which is what you think.

During the interview she granted us the exclusive and forthcoming in our next issue of Grand Slam (note: exit May 16 in our network), Martina Hingis has answered our questions about women's tennis is tod hui. Azarenka on, she had this analysis: "Victoria has an incredible game and an impressive physique, it really hits hard, is one of the girls who has the most potential among the 10 best players in the world since its scope for growth is still strong even though it is not far from the world leader. This is really quite rare "

I believe Martina is the superior doubles player with the superior doubles career as well as singles.

I suppose, but you're talking about results from 10+ years ago. As far as what's currently relevant, Lindsay is the one who currently holds a Premier title while Martina has so far struggled to make inroads in the legends events. But if you want to look at Martina's past doubles career as some sort of a consolation then I understand.

Interviews> Martina Hingis: "I've never looked back at Roland Garros"
By Rémi Cape Verde, Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 10:00
To mark the release of GrandChelem 23, Welovetennis you to discover this week, talks that will help you prepare, at best, the appointment of the Porte d'Auteuil.

To follow: GC23; Martina Hingis, Francesca Schiavone and Sam Sumyk; Alexandra Fusai, Novak Djokovic, Tomas Berdych, Nicolas Mahut, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Patrice Hagelauer / Arnaud di Pasquale, Roland Garros: their first time.

Oh Martina! For many enthusiasts, Martina Hingis embodies a vision of tennis, eternal youth, a dream of little girls and boys. Arrogant teenager, gifted, smiling, accomplished woman, serene and thoughtful. The former world number one has seen it all and showed us all of his game, his faces. GrandChelem / Welovetennis went to meet a Parisian Swiss, along short of Racing Club de France.

So, Martina, you are Swiss or Paris?
I remain resolutely Swiss, even though my husband is in Paris. But I have always loved Paris and French life, so there is a great compromise! (Laughter)

In Paris, you do not have good memories, with the final 99 ...
Today, with the hawk-eye, it might have been different! (Laughs) But I was young at the time, I was 18, I was world number one in the final of Roland Garros ... This is not anything! At this point, in my mind, winning was the most important thing in the world.

And the idea of moving the net?
I wanted to see the brand, it's simple. The audience was behind Steffi! In hindsight, I also understand people's reactions.

It's a real regret?
No, I have only good memories of Roland Garros. I've never been disappointed, I was still two points behind title. I win at your fingertips ... And if I hear much of this meeting, it was because finally, I have not won.

What do you think women's tennis today?
In my time there were many more characters. Williams, Monica Seles, Jennifer Capriati, Anna Kournikova ... Today, we see mostly the same style of players. They 1m80, they serve well, there is not much difference ... Aside from Caroline Wozniacki who has a game more stable. But it must win a Grand Slam tournament for the respect of everyone, it is mandatory.

GrandChelem was born in Lyon, not far from Switzerland. Yet we can not know if you stay as famous there?
We must cross the border! (Laughter) Seriously, Switzerland had never known athletes worldwide, with some skiers, but it was still a little room. My background and that of Roger Federer scored minds.

But you can live alone?
When I pass the border is different. In Switzerland, I'm really known. So here is still more cool and Zen, even if accosted me in the street, or that I made signs at red lights.

Makes you happy?
Yes, but it is not very important, even if it's still very enjoyable.

Since you mention it, you have contacts with Roger?
It's difficult, because Roger has a loaded schedule hyper - and I know what I mean! (Laughs) But we manage to talk a little when we crossed the Grand Slams.

In France, early in your career, you had the image of a haughty girl, a little precious. But the opposite is true, right? Today, you are very accessible ...
Yes, and besides, I arrived on time! (Laughter)

Logic for a Swiss ... (Laughter)
(Laughs) No, but at the time, it's just that I was protected because I could not please everyone. Otherwise, I could do interviews all day. Especially since as a global issue, we have to do things very contract, particularly with the sponsors.

Moreover, in this regard, I heard that you were very famous in Japan ...
Yes, yes. There were many products in my effigy of chocolate bars, energy drinks ...

There are pubs that you have turned and that you are not proud?
No, I still had fun making them. I remember one ... I had to sing in Japanese! (Laughs) A very funny moment.

On the Internet, we see many pictures of you, in a model, a dancer ...
That much? (Laughs) The truth is that I took great pleasure in doing all that.

All champions do not do this after their career ...
I'm not so sure, but also that, the show business. Me, I like the makeup, the beautiful dresses ... In addition, I always wanted to dance! It's something I've always liked. Unfortunately, we did not do a very good run with my partner.

This issue, there is not another player who was involved?
Yes, yes, Monica Seles! I had also called to take advice and it made me go.

On the sports front, what is your life today?
It's a little riding and a little tennis. In fact, I try to practice both. As I will argue the Legends Trophy, with Lindsay Davenport, I must be fit! It is a very good mix. I had already taken a lot of fun to hit the ball at Roland Garros, with Alize Lim, a French hope.

Then you type in the ball regularly ... Why?
(Laughs) I do not understand the question! It seems obvious to me (laughs): I love playing tennis. I love this game

At what level you're located today?
I have no idea! To take a set, I think I'm pretty good. But on the whole duration of a match, physically, I will not keep the distance. I do not train four hours a day, I do not run more daily ... That makes sense. For cons, the technique, I've always, you never forget.

If you had to play mixed doubles, it would be with who?
When I played World Team Tennis, I had the opportunity to do a double with John McEnroe. It's really great because it puts the pressure. It is both serious and fun. You better play well or he gets angry! (Laughs) But, ultimately, it's a great time.

And on the circuit today?
I've done, I even won the Hopman Cup with Roger (2001). Besides, he and I had been chained with the tournament in Sydney. It's a great memory! He was 20 years old, me, one more, it was only at the beginning, he began to win titles ...

In French?
It is difficult, there are many choices. But surely Michael Llodra - he is very good - or Yannick Noah.

Yannick Noah? But it's a singer! (Laughter)
Yes, yes, it's crazy this second career! But, in fact I've played with him, or rather against him. He was with Mary Pierce and I, with Mansour Bahrami.

You have kept in touch with former adversaries?
Yes, especially with Anna Kournikova.

A GrandChelem, we like to talk about the material because it is an essential part of tennis and its history. You've done your whole career with the brand Yonex. Why?
Because it suited my game the past, Martina Navratilova also played in Yonex. Besides, in my day, we were rather large in this case: Monica (Seles), Anna (Kournikova), Iva (Majoli), Anke (Huber) ... Five out of 10 girls were in Yonex.

This means that the framework was adapted a bit special for women?
The shape of the racquet increases the centering area, the so-called "sweet spot". It's allowed to have more room and slightly off-center type. The "missing" in some way! (Laughter)

I do not think you often the rats ...
For my game, this type of framework has always been efficient, accurate - yes, accurate! - And quite powerful. That's why I stayed loyal to the brand.

You have tested the new revolution with ropes, like Luxilon?
I tried. But I am of mixed because I tested with 100% and it did not really agreed. It was problematic in terms of health for my arm.

Let's talk about your career. We had ten times you ask the question, but ... why did you tried to return after being arrested on tennis?
I was 25 and I did not have any regrets, tell me that I had not tried. I still had something to give. And it was very well spent! At first I was a little scared, I was stressed out ... My first match on the tour, on my return ended in a defeat to Justine Henin. It was not an ideal start ... (Smiles)

You have seen real differences between the two periods?
When you disembark on the circuit as young as I was, you have nothing to lose. At 17, you think inevitably less than 25. You do not say: "I may miss my chance" or "this might be my last final," "my last chance to win this title" ...

You're as proud of your second as your first career?
Yes, even if there were fewer titles. I was not a global issue, but the sixth, after a year, it's not so bad! (Laughter)

Today, many girls are coached by their father or mother. Why?
Because I must ...

Why "it takes?
You do not feel alone, it is important. You have to have someone with you, especially when you're young. With family, it's simpler. Afterwards, there are friends who allow you to have some privacy next to your career. But this is not always easy, especially when you're a girl. Your friend will rarely be willing to travel with you throughout the year.

With your mom, you never had hard times?
Of course you do! When you live 24 hours over 24 with someone, there are always tense moments. But I reassure you now get along very well, we're friends. (Laughs) But I remember one time, about 20 years ... I decided to play without it, I wanted to prove things. I quickly realized that I needed her.

She is always in tennis?
She has an academy. These include a 14 year old daughter who is very promising! (Laughter)

And you, you think to become a coach or assist in the emergence of talent? You remain the queen of the tactics ...
You know, in the modern tennis, there was not much time to implement any tactics. Ca attack from the back and see what happens after ...

This means that Martina Hingis in full possession of his means could no longer get it?
I do not know, it's hard to say. I find myself somewhat in Caroline Wozniacki. She has a real consistency and an entourage performing with his dad. I think she has put in place rules and healthy functioning.

Then, coach or no coach?
Why not, but I would find a player that plays. And that's rare in these days! (Laughter) I think it's a generational problem. Today, we do not respect enough tennis.

What do you mean by that?
It hits, it hits, it hits ... It seems that every player has his guideline and there confined. They do not think about the other and put in the closet while the strategic aspect of the sport. I noticed that when I returned to the circuit. The atmosphere had changed ...

Really?
Yes, I have a story that illustrates all that. Each year in Australia there is a meeting with the players. When I arrived on the tour was a highlight, a time of trade but also to listen. There was the opposite: everyone was playing on his phone and spoke at the same time. I understood nothing. This behavior has direct impact on the proposed tennis, it's inevitable.

This is the famous "respect" you speak of?
Yes. In tennis, you can cover at most 80% of the short, yet today, girls play three times in four balls at risk anywhere, anyhow. Often, there are sequences where they miss a lot without question, without trying, behind, placing the ball in the court. These are things that annoy me! (Laughter)

Really?
Yes. It's frustrating, because there may be balls completely incredible, winning points that I never thought to try and, moments later, three big mistakes. It's not really my idea of tennis, I have not had this education tennis.

What is the best audience you've met?
They all have their specificities. The French, when they are behind you, it's beautiful. But otherwise ... Wow, this is not simple! (Laughter)

What was your reaction when you learned that Roland was still in Paris?
I think it's better. Roland Garros, Paris is, it is neither Marne-la-Vallee, or Versailles. I think it's a very good decision. I adore instead of Musketeers, I think it's a very beautiful place.

And your favorite short?
The Suzanne Lenglen, because I never lost on this ground. Roland Garros has a special place in my heart. I've still won twice ... in a Junior! (Laughs) The first, moreover, it was epic. They were on court number two or three, I do not know. Meanwhile, Mary Pierce played on Centre Court against Arantxa Sanchez. In the gallery, there were ten viewers at any break. It was strange! (Laughter)

Your location?
I always felt good at the Australian Open. But today, a spectator, I take great pleasure in Wimbledon. I am a member of the club and it's a real privilege.

If you only had to keep a track of your career?
Wow, it's hard! But I would say my first, in Filderstadt. I keep a very special memory. I won a Porsche Boxster, I left with. What up!

A final word on Nadal, even though he dethroned Roger ...
I went to see him play at Roland Garros last year. It was just crazy! What I like above all is respect between him and Roger. For me, it's important, it is the respect of tennis and its history.
