Hi guys,

Do you think Schiavone will retire after defending her title, she looks really unhappy and her results have not been great for her

I think she'll try to hang on 'til the Olympics

I think only a bad injury will make her retire before she's 34-35.

There is no indication of her wanting to retire.

Schiavone has always had ups and downs with motivation during her career..this is nothing new. expect to see a boost in motivation at the Italian Open and French Open

Let's hope so, she is only one handed backhand now at the top!

she should, but she won't. she's happy to hang around and make a fool of herself.

I'd say yes, but only if she sustains a nasty injury otherwise, there's no reason for her not to hang on for one more season to play the Olympics.

It just seems a shame she is losing to people like Mattek Sands on clay!

If she has no motivation, she can retire from tennis with a grand slam and a highest of n.4 in the world, and then she could get a WC for Olympics. It's sad to see a so talented player lose this way.

Why would she retire when the Olympics are so close?

There is a very legitimate possibility Francesca will never again reach the heights she reached last year at RG. But she is still a good player and she is still playing at least top 20 standard tennis even this season. I see absolutely no reason why she would even think of retiring now.

To put it another way, two years ago Schiavone was ranked outside the top 40 and was playing substantially less well than she is right now. She quite rightly didn't retire then, why on early would she retire now?

At the very least I expect her to continue until the Olympics. After that who knows. She might play out the 2012 season or she might not. She might play another 2 or 3 years after the Olympics too.

QF at 2009 Wimbledon. Fail.

Not if she wins again.

I don't think so. She was at her best at the beginning of the season. And she will probably still be top ten after Roland Garros even if she lost early.

... but she was so poor in these two matches against Radwanska and the same today against Mattek!

That's why I'm sure there's no way to defend her title.

Yes I noticed that she lacked fire in her eyes in the BMS match which made me kind of sad

I think she will retire after RG this year cos in her video message to Elena Dementieva (after she announced her retirement) she said she wouldn't be too far behind!

Quality joke here.:yeah:

I think she will retire after a tournament in Italy (would be perfect if it was a Fed Cup).

He/She didn't say 'successfully' defend her title.

She looked a little lacklustre vs Bethanie Mattek-Sands but I wouldn't be surprised to see her put in a quality performance at Roland Garros, she has to have a good feeling returning after her triumph last year.
