Who, in your opinion, is the best or most talented player who has never managed to win a singles tournament and why? Discuss! :oh:

I've only included active players in the poll. :oh:

Not sure what criteria to use. I'd say at the moment it is Dominika. At this same time I think some other players have a good chance to get in front of her, e.g. Shuai or Polona for that matter.

I said other and say Kournikova, shame she didn't!! she was good contrary to what people who mostly only watch wimbledon every year say.you don't get a win over graf on grass with a injured thumb if ur a shitty player!
When she played her best tennis it was actually beautiful to watch the shots as much as it was to watch her.

Anna Iglesias :sobbing:

 That was going to be my vote until I saw this was active players only.

Domi, she's made a grand slam semifinal and she's a tough customer on all surfaces so it's a wonder why she hasn't capitialized at least at a smaller tournament with a win.

Since cibulkova made a slam SF, i have to say her. Peng can get really far though.

Cibulkova - RG SF and USO QF, would have expected her to sneak a tournament win in somewhere

No doubt: Kournikova! She's been a top ten singles and # 1 doubles player with a few big finals (Miami e.g.) and semis (Wimbledon e.g.).

Vesnina, she has a huge game & can really do everything.

If she include retired players: Kournikova by a mile!

Smitten

Cibulkova has a slam SF and a slam QF as well as other things like a Tier I final, and she was once 1 or 2 wins from being top 10.

This is really not up for discussion with the other players in this poll.

The first player that comes to mind is Dementieva, and she's retired. I dont even know who those girls in that poll are.....womens tennis imo is really fading...imo.

Are you thinking of Kournikova instead of Dementieva or Grand Slams instead of WTA titles?

It still boggles me that Kournikova never won a title. She was so talented!

From that list I would say Domi and I think she will win a title this year.

Watch her match vs. WS at Wimbledon w/ Zvonareva. She outhit Serena & Venus from the back of the court. ;)

Add to that she knows what to do at the net and has a good serve.

first thought, WHERE IS ANNA K?

cuz she is the best to never win one.

SymphonyX
May 6th, 2011, 10:12 AM
Anna Kournikova. Cause when she was playing well, she'd easily take a shit on everyone in that poll. She has a sizable amount of weaponry, formidable footwork, soft hands, all-court play and could slug it out at the baseline as well. Such a shame she spiraled out of control with off-court work.

I agree, when she and Martina Hingis (#1) at the time (1997/98) played against each other...it was Anna that had the more powerful strokes and they had some close matches...the difference was Martina's savy on the court...she knew when to get the winners. Anna's problem then became injuries (too many photoshoots and not enough practice) but she certainly was a contributor when she and Martina hooked up to play doubles! Ahhh, The "Spice Girls" :hearts::kiss: never been a more attractive duo since!

The poll doesnt say that the player has to be active. Therefore the obvious answer is Kournikova, who the OP didn't list, probably he's too young to know who she is.

He (she?) said that in the second post.

Well I like Vesnina and I hope she wins one soon but the best player at the moment is definitely Cibulkova. Good GS-Results, Tier 1 final and 3 Top 10 wins just this year. I would like to know how Dominika thinks about being without a title.

First person I immdeiately thought of was Kournikova. She was very natrually talented, but was the biggest victim of the "glamour" that WTA tennis can bring to a pretty player. IMO she got totally wrapped up in all the fame, and took her eye off of her game. She more than likely slacked on fitness, didnt train as much as she should, etc.

But from Kournikova's standpoint, she is still a household name in America even though she hasnt played for almost a decade, she is wealthier than she could ever want to be, and to the average person she is one of only a handfull of people still known by the average person.... certaintly there hasnt ever been a player who never won a tournie yet was so well known. So in a way.... she succeeded big time... just not on paper is all.

Cibulkova is clearly too talented to be on this llst.

Why doesn't she temporarily focus on micky-mouse tournaments like Pattaya City and lose her WTA-trophy virginity?
