Why does the police release a police report with his picture and name to the public without being convicted yet? Does the police always do that in the US? A lot of innocent arrested people will be "convicted" by the public this way.
People shouldn't be hung out in public before a conviction.

An arrest is a public event. Therefore, newspapers/tv news etc. report it. The assumption is "innocent until proven guilty." Most people don't want the actions of the police kept secret. If the person is not guilty, s/he will not be convicted or perhaps s/he will not even be charged (obviously, someone could be convicted and also not be guilty, since a jury of your peers will determine guilt and one's peers can be wrong). In a jury trial, jurors are supposed to reveal their biases before they are assigned to a jury. The lawyers conduct voir dire to determine who will be placed on that jury. If you have a preconceived notion about the guilt or innocence of a defendent, you are supposed to admit this, and likely you will not be placed on that jury. It is a system of trust, to some degree. All arrests are supposed to be public. Only the names of victims whose families have not been informed of their deaths are kept out of the news, and also the names of victims of sexual crimes are generally not reported in papers as well as the names of people who are not to be charged as adults, such as teenagers or children.

^^^This, however reporters must take great care to describe persons as "suspects" or "alleged" or "arrested for."

For example, if a newspaper reported that "Miffedmax, a stalker of Elena Dementieva, is now stalking Victoria Azarenka" they could be in all sorts of trouble. However, if they report that "Miffedmax, the alleged stalker of Elena Dementieva, was arrested for stalking Victoria Azarenka" that's pretty much okay.

What if it said, "Miffedmax, the alleged stalker of Elena Dementieva, was arrested for stalking Victoria Azarenka, wearing a wig made of hair from Dementieva's bangs collected over years of following her around from continent to continent, stealing her combs out of her purses from under the watchful eye of Mommy Vera and weaving the strands into a wig to cover his dome by candlelight each night in the shrine to Elena in his basement"?

Actually, if I remember from my old journalism courses, you should refer to me as the "convicted stalker of" or "in prison for stalking" on the off chance I'm exonerated at some point.

Now as Aravane Caravane reminded me, I need to go work on my toupee.

(Seriously, for all kidding aside I know this is a serious issue and could all too easily have led to an unfortunate outcome for Serena. I genuinely hope this issue is resolved and she is protected from this guy).

Serena, bad bad move of yours , no needed to put the poor guy in jail :smash:

Later, before you have enough time to blink your eyes, this stalker will soon come back to TF and jump on the train to be fan of Sharapova, Kim, Henin, Vera, Vika,etc... to bash Serena endlessly. He would even go on to say Serena is a mindless cow ball basher and all her other stalkers need to get their eyes instantly checked.

So, Serena, you lose

Save the sheepleader..... oopps, sorry, wrong show
