Ugly match!

As always, the opponent thunders Caro into submission in the beginning of the match, but then loses her breathe and is defeated.

I never watch Caroline's matches unless she plays someone I care about. After this match I finally figured out why is Caroline so hated here. Those moonballs were just :help:
And on the other side, Bojana trying to hit winners on those high balls was even more :help:

Ridiculous.

Jovanovski dominated the match, was up a break in each set, had so many occasions and lost 6-4 6-4.

She was missing sitters after sitters. That's a shame. She could have won today if she was not so much hopeless. The dane surely not played like a world number one and was dominated in the game.

Why didn't Bojana shake the umpire's hand??

She seemed so dissapointed, I think she forgot. No other explanation.

And this is our no.1 player. That was dreadful from Caro. Bojana was far from her best and still managed to trouble her big time. Apart from those couple of games at the beginning of the match Bojana was far from her best.

1 hour 45 mins for a straight sets match against a BBB not even ranked in the top 50:help: It will be very hard for Wozniacki to win 7 matches like this, she just has no consistent way of ending the points on her terms and preserve energy.

This match really exposed Wozniacki forehand once more.

At one point in the first she was 0-30 on Jovanovski serve, then she tried to attack with her forehand and it resulted in 3 very ugly UE in a row from the forehand alone.

Bojana had Woz for most parts of the 1st. but Bojana doesn't know when to smatch, Bojana doesn't know when to transition at the net, Bojana's very average volleys... Bojana can't put away sitters (3 all 1st. set 40-30*)... Unfortunate.

Bojana needs to improve her serve, consistency and probably fitness plus gain more experience. If she really improves, she will be even more of a threat to Wozniacki than she was today.

As for Wozniacki, good defense, but apart from that she was pretty mediocre.

Jovanovski couldnt hold serve. That could be a problem her whole career.
Caro was down 13, went to 64. Then won even thou she was broken twice in set 2, including 64 *53.
She will have to hold better the rest of this week

Not the best of performances from Caroline, but got the job done and that is what's important. A tough match next though, would like her to go far here but the conditions in Madrid are so different that it's not really effective RG preperation. Rome should provide a clearer view.

As for Jovanovski, yeah she hit hard but she seems to be yet another mentally fragile big hitter with a sub-par serve. If you want to beat Wozniacki you need to have a decent serve. Near the end of the match she was serving practically all second serves.

Mekoro
May 3rd, 2011, 02:25 PM

She can have nice strokes but she has no nerves. She was missing a lot of sitters after having put Caro away in the rally.

On her day, Bojana has a better fh than many of the top 50 players, thats it; lets not overhype her.

She has a weak serve, no clue of what to do in the forecourt, has frequent lapses in concentration, she is even less willing to come to the net than Na Li, gets caught off guard with change of pace quite easily, has decent movement but very poor anticipation.

Caro through to R3 :bounce:

Didn't see the match. But I like one stat: 5/7 break points won. She's had trouble converting those before.

Weird stat: Caro won 52% of her 1st serves, but 67% of her 2nd serves

BoJo won just 27% of her 2nd serves...

 she can chat with the umpire as long as the umpire sees fit, it didn't last more than 1 minute that's for sure, and crowds always whistle when a player asks the umpire to check out a mark, no matter if they are right or not. Ask Hingis!

Mediocre match from Caro overall but she raised her game a gear at key moments and BJ wasn't really threatening her at the end of each set. Caro broke 2 of BJ's last 3 serve games in set 1 and the last 3 serve games in set 2.
And Caro doesn't have to peak for another 3 weeks!

Can any of the followers of Wozniacki please inform me if that running/fitness practice stretch is still on. As far as i knew it was just meant to be during Stuttgart but according to commentators of the match she's still doing it?
This match did not look convincing. She looked tired and so did her hissy-fit at the line ruling.

If she doesn't pick up her pace, she's not going deep this time

Haters out in full force today :wavey:

Caroline was nowhere near her best on the red stuff, but still won. She lost 8 games, so she obviously isn't playing her best atm. Hopefully, she can grind out some wins and shut the haters up, though I don't see her winning this title. Anyway, the more matches won, the better :wavey:

Goerges could beat her next round, but Wozniacki usually gets revenge in her opponent's next match (Petkovic for example was beaten in Stuttgart). Safina definitely won't beat her, so I'm hoping she beats Goerges. But, either way, BRING IT ON!!!

She doesn't do any physical training before matches anymore as she did every day throughout the Stuttgart tournament. Yikes, assuming Goerges defeats Safina I don't see Caroline winning against Julia playing like she did today. Against Jovanovski her break point conversion was good (5/7) but she was broken three times. For Caroline to beat Julia Thursday I think she will need to do both (hold serve and get some breaks of serve).

Still, I'm hopeful. Caroline looked awful against Petkovic in Miami and was able to beat her in Stuttgart. Whatever happens I hope that Caroline plays with more passion than the Stuttgart final.

But Caroline didn't play well either. There seems to be some sort of misconception that Caroline plays as well as she can in every match whereas her opponents tend to combust. Even as a #1 you don't play to the best of your capabilities in every match and the only reason she was troubled is because she didn't play as well as she could. Wozniacki playing relatively well should still beat Jovanovski playing her best in straight sets.

Yes, she will gradually play better, but it's okay to loose to someone that's playing realy well, like Julia in Stuttgart. The goal is to win FO :) I liked that the match ended on a winner fx. and we got to see Bojana on the main court, so it wasn't all bad ;)

1) I really like Jovanovski's shot production, particularly on the forehand. She's got late preparation, and quite a short stroke, and so the amount of racket head speed she generates is really impressive. But this also means there's a small margin for error, and it reflects in the errors she makes on easy put aways. She needs to practice those.
2) Her name is awesome. Bojana Jovanovski... it just flows so well.
3) She's really pretty. I'd rate her higher than Ivanovic.

If this was played on grass, she would've won imo. Her flat strokes would've done a lot more damage. It will be interesting to see how she goes in Wimbledon.

Why does Jovanovski sneeze every time she hits the ball? Is she allergic to tennis balls?
