I thought it'd be nice to have an "off topic tennis" thread - for all our tennis talk that's not related to Flavia. Our other faves, general tennis stuff, etc.

Someone posted a thread in GM and I felt like the OP read my mind. You usually can tell which matches will be played next day based on the current round but Madrid seems so random. :( Are they showing livestreams for non-show courts?

Who's playing in Rosmalen? Flavia better be playing there as you're going there right? :p

Zamboni
May 3rd, 2011, 10:30 AM
They have streams for MS, ASV and court 3, but the times seem a bit random:lol: Hard to tell what they will show exactly. Will get easier when I have actually time to watch, I guess :p

Usually it's a bunch of Italians, Slovaks, Czechs and Belgians:lol: I'm having my fingers crossed for Flavia and Sara ;) And the rest of my faves. So not too many Slovaks and Czechs please:tape:
I'm going sat-tue so plenty of time for stalking if they play

It's easier to watch if you don't have to worry about getting some sleep like I do. RG is so near now yet I fear that I will be missing most of the early daytime matches because I'm still at work. Sigh.

Madrid's coverage just sucks :weirdo: no Sexa-Sara today :(
Rome will be sooooo better :hearts: they will even show doubles matches :oh:
lately Azarenka is growing on me  but her grunt s just too annoying :o
btw i have a question about tennis rules :p
yesterday Roddick and Cipolla played a tb, Cipolla was up *7-6 and 2 serves which he lost both while Roddick on *8-7 served it out with 1 serve
who start to serve first in the 3rd?

Franny vs Sara is on on Centre Court and yet no TV coverage. :weirdo:
:secret: Did you bet on Franny?

Doubles matches coverage. Dulketta better get their act together by then so I can watch them. :p

I used to be like that about Vika. She was a bit too spoiled without the results to back her up when she started on tour and that grunt is really annoying. :o But I've been sort of following her results when she was still in the juniors then I got back to liking her when she finally settled in being a pro.

I'm not sure about this but what I know is that if for example it was Cipolla who serve in the last game before the TB, then it will be Roddick who will serve first in the third set.

But my best Clijsters/Rosmalen memory is the evening before the exhibition, so pre-comeback, when she was practising with Flavia:hearts: Killing her too :o It was such a fun, relaxed practise. They were playing points, and then just chatting, talking accomodation, and comparing wrist tattoos:lol:

Second time my friends and I were talking during warmup and between points, while she was highly focused as coach in the stands:worship: [/sarcasm]

Nah don't worry about that. The Madrid hard court clay is quite different from the slooow courts of RG. Not to mention the high altitude in Madrid as Fran had pointed out to me. I still think Caro has the best chance to win (if Kim is not playing) otherwise someone totally random. :oh:

Honestly, I'm lost.

Wozniacki is not looking good on clay so far.
Zvonareva, Azarenka, don't wanna imagine their minds in a GS-winning position.
Clijsters, Williams x2 are big question marks, if they even play
Schiavone, can't see her repeat, not in great form now
Stosur seems to have lost it
Sharapova is still bambi on ice on clay
Jankovic, Radwanska, don't consider them serious contenders, though JJ's a bit "who knows"
Kuznetsova, Ivanovic.....also "who knows" but I can't see it right now

So that leaves Kvitova:scared: or someone random
I just have no idea:lol:

Interesting pick on Azarenka. I didn't really thought of her as a serious contender. Her body seems too fragile to maintain her intensity for two weeks of clay court grinding.

NOT Kvitova  But, in all honesty, WHO do you go for? Linda posed this a few days ago as an argument and I totally agree. If it's going to be someone random, let it be someone who's been around for a while (like Schiavone) and who can have something major to show when they retire. Stosur? Jankovic? Zvonareva?
For sentimental reasons only... That's what made last year so brilliant, someone who's been around for so long actually got their hands on the prize... All heart and passion.

Like, I always majorly disliked Dementieva, but by last year I was almost cheering for her to win a Slam.

For RG, out of the (semi)-realistic possible winners, I think I'm going for Caro. If only to shut everyone up.

She's been inconsistent, that is for sure. But do you really think she's THAT talented? I think she's very hard working, can be exciting to watch, but I wouldn't put her in the 'talented' bracket necessarily. And I'm not being mean, she's really grown on me.

I think Gisela is reasonably talented and probably underachieved, but mostly she's just incredibly inconsistent. You can predict when she might upset, but she has never been able to build on an upset.

and FWIW, apparently her hard work and dedication to tennis get questioned quite a bit. I don't have an opinion on it though.
