I'm a big Alona fan but I wouldn't call her the most elegant, not tennis-wise. Her BH is good, but not a really natural stroke. Her serve isn't that elegant either. Her FH-Technique though is beautiful :) But I'd also say Pennetta :)

Sharapova screams her head off after every shot, how is that elegant? And since when are Sharapova's strokes elegant?

And I don't find Flavia Pennetta elegant either.

I can't think of hardly any stylish female Tennis players, those days are long gone thanks to the Bollietieri blueprint.

Mauresmo's volleys and backhand and movement were elegant, but her serve and forehand wasn't elegant unfortunately. Henin was also elegant but her service motion was changed a few times and she had that abbreviated service action for a while.

Today's players? I'm really struggling here - Jankovic moves smoothly around the court and makes no noise after hitting shots. The young Russian Pavlyuchenkova has a nice game. I like Azarenka's game but I wouldn't describe her as an elegant player, she's good looking though :-0

Hmm...the most elegant tennis...to be honest there isn't a single woman in the top 10 that I was say plays "elegant" tennis. I'm not saying I don't like any of them, I'm just saying that, to me, I don't find them to play an elegant style of play. Julia Goerges plays a "effortless" style of play. She makes the game look so easy but I would not say it's elegant. I have yet to come across a young woman that plays an elegant style of play like say, a Henin. Kim Clijsters is a ballbasher and is fantastic to watch, but I wouldn't say she's elegant.

I hope that there will be a newcomer to the top players that will play with an elegant flare.

What?

I think Wozniacki's game is elegant. You got a problem with that?

No I do not but she is not the person that springs to mind when you think elegance, also it just seems you only like one player and decided to try and make all of us and fail to like her.

I was thinking Parra santonja elegant? she has very good movement?

Hingis.

If we include retired players then it's Hingis FTW! :yeah:

Hingis.

Ah yes retired players:

Well I can think of Hingis as you said, also Jana Novotna, Yvonne Goolagong, maybe Sabatini, Steffi Graf, I'm sure there are other players that escape me.

But we are dealing with today. And like I said, the Nick Bollietieri blueprint means nearly everyone plays the same way, individuality has more or less disappeared for the time being.

I'd say Schnyder. Excellent movement, fluid service motion, fantastic touch-shots and that gorgeous FTL DTL.

In-form Vinci has a very attractive game too.

In terms of those who haven't been mentioned, I'll go for Zakopalova too.

Also, I can't believe I forgot to mention Tatiana.

Her forehand was very fluid. And she was hot. + elegance points.

Davenport's ground strokes and serve, especially during '98 - 2000. :hearts: Never mind her lumbering on the court.

Ana's movement and BH immediately rule her out, IMO - but when she's on, that serve and especially THAT forehand look effortless. She's at her most elegant on clay.

I suppose I'd pick Dani from that list.

no one in my mind can play the most elegant tennis like Martina Hingis, none of the players in that poll, none on the tour today I've seen.

Zvonareva, Makarova, Georges, Schnyder, Hsieh, Schiavone (minus the serve), Radwanska, Pin and Dechy :hearts:

Yes, I agree about APS, she is probably the most 'fluent' 2 hander

Anotoxfa. Her strokes are so rhythmic and well-produced, she has lovely touch and though her movement is slow, it's quite elegant.
So true.

I don't know how anyone could find Hingis' forehand elegant. She looks like a polio sufferer pushing a car uphill.

Her forehand was okay but her serve wasn't in any way elegant.

Among current players I'd vote for Schiavone.

Evonne Goolagong was elegance personified:hearts:

For some reason people like her strokes. It tends to make her a little overrated in these boards.

But like someone said, this is tennis, not figure skating. Not gymnastics.

I've heard commenentators/retired pros talk about how beautiful her groundstrokes are. I admit she doesn't move well, but her bh, especially, is lovely.

I love Fran but I wouldn't describe her game as elegant but different strokes for different folks, I guess.:p

New rules: if you grunt, your game isn't elegant. Lets be real people, nobody equates The Road Warrior and elegance. Schiavone, Kuznetsova, Venus, Sharapova, Serena, Azarenka... no. Not elegant.

My vote goes to Agnes Szavay. Even losing, she plays beautifully. Every stroke is just lovely. I don't think there's been a more charming slam QF run than her march in New York back in 2007.

The prettiest, smoothest strokes are Nastia Pav.
If by elegant you mean refined, delicate looking in between points, probably ACHAK.

:spit: Ok.

Easily Hingis for me, I don't think she had an "ugly" shot in her resume. Even her serve, while not the strongest, was very fluid. Her and Goolagong (from the clips I've seen) would be my top picks.

I find it hard to think of a player as elegant when they're obviously grinding/exerting a lot of energy on each stroke. Schiavone is a lot of fun to watch, but not elegant.

Definitely not a basher, who just pounds the ball relentlessly. It's fun to watch, but not elegant (to me).

First thoughts when thinking of elegant tennis:

Chris Evert, Justine Henin, and Tatiana Golovin (just such smooth strokes).

All time probably Hingis. Among current players there are not so many to choose between as tennis has gone from being elegant to being effective. Probably Kim Clijsters with her smooth strokes and great movement.

Davenport for some reason came to mind  maybe because of her great strokes and her stroke production, Anna Chakvetadze also when at her best :). As a Maria fan id say she's elegant on court her appearance and when she finishes her serve but her type of game is not known to be elegant is it. Maria herself however is ;)
Mauresmo to me had a elegant game style ESPECIALLY when she played on grass at wimbledon. (would love her volley)
