I was just perusing various tennis matches, and i was just wondering what the regularity has been of players winning Grand Slams by virtue of hitting a winner. I can think of some examples more recently:

One that immediately came to mind was the 2008 USO final: Serena hitting a CC backhand winner after a long rally.

What was the 2003 US again? Forehand volley? For some reason there are absolutely no high lights anywhere?

Forehand drive-volley. There were some highlights a few months ago, but i assume they've been taken down/removed by the user.

Hingis' Wimbledon 1997 and Australian open 1998 wins too.

I thought that counted as an ace, since the return did not make it to the net before the 2nd bounce.

I think that was the point. He was probably just trying to hit back at that Fran fan by making a 'cutting' remark, failing miserably at it and then feeling the need to repost it because it got no reaction the first time.

If I remember correctly, (I was there :p) Justine didn't actually hit a winner.
The crowd got so loud when Justine hit the drop shot volley that you could barely hear Alison Lang say "not up" when Sveta got there, and I don't think the players heard her either, hence the delayed reaction. And Sveta kind of looked over too.

Doesn't it count as a winner anyway if it bounced twice before the other player got there?

I think every slam final that Justine won was a utterly crap match, because the other player folded so badly:

Roland Garros/US Open 2003: Mental weak Clijsters was ridiculous, both crap matches
Australian Open 2004: average
RG 2005: Pierce folded so badly, disgusting to see, 2006, Sveta same thing
RG 2007: First time slam finalist Ivanovic played at 10% max..., and US Open 07, was the single worst slam final of all time, in my opinion...

I know right, she had that effect on her peers. Talk about lightning striking 7 times!

My favorite, hotly contested, nail-biting GS final of all time has to be the scintillating RG 2008 final, with Ivanovic (who brilliantly came through a half with Venus AND Serena , and routed GOAT Jankovic in an NID match) pitted against Safina who everyone knows always turns in superlative performances on such a stage.
