12 aces from Goerges.

Some impressive serve stats in this tournament so far. Looks like IW / Miami exchanged their surfaces with Marbella / Madrid because clay looks to be faster than hard lately.

That almost got very interesting at the end. Next could be Safina, then Caro. The 2009 finalists

Görges seemed to serve really well in 2nd and 3rd sets. Maybe was a bit nervous serving it out at 5-2, and got broken.

A very tough draw for Kaia after being away for a month with an injury. I really hope she'll do much better next week in Rome:hug:

Yay Julia! Great result! I knew Kanepi would be tough, if she's on it's difficult to beat her and it seems like she wasn't playing too bad. Important win for Julia to some kind of transfer her momentum onto Madrid and not losing 1R. And a tough match right away seems to be good :) GL next round!

Kaia  Hope she can find her form soon, some big points coming off in the latter half of this year.

Good to see Julia back up her Stuttgart win.

To be honest I am surprised that the match was so close. It was Kaia's first tournament since Miami (5 weeks ago) and Kaia told that she is not fully recovered from her injury. I hope she gets a better draw in Rome :)

Gorgeous :o Kanepi is nowhere near her form so losing a set is a bit worrying
well, a win is better than losing the very first match after a title, I guess

I was a bit worried with Julia facing such a tough competitor in round 1,but Julia pulled through. I am hopefully going to get the rematch between Georges and Woznicki. I want Julia to beat her in straight sets. I love Julia's game. If she can cut down on unforced errors and add a touch of finesse to her game, the sky is the limit.

Go Georges,Petkovic,Lisicki

Whoops, looks like she almost pulled a Li Na after her Aussie final. Maybe she just had an early tournie hickup? Or maybe she'll bomb out in the next round... not so sure this girl has the consistency yet. Still good to see she managed to pull it out in the end.

Important win for :cheer: Julinha :cheer: - Kanepi may be just coming back from injury, but she can be a very tough opponent.

But above all, I really didn't want to see the usual suspects (Mr. Samuel and others) coming in here to gloat about the inconsistency of the latest "fluke", and about how every time an upper tier tournament is won by someone who isn't a multiple GS winner (preferably St. Kimberley) the credibility of the Tour goes down the shitter etc.

Who am I kidding? They'll claim that anyway as soon as she loses, even if it's in the final.
