:bounce:

And BTW, Anca is the 4th seed , so she definitely deserves a cheering thread. ;)

Anca also plays doubles, with Stephanie Cohen Aloro. :)

They will meet Molik/ Serra Zanetti, so Anca has to play twice tomorrow.

Good luck Anca ! :bounce:

Can we agree that this first cheering thread is also the last ? Maybe it was a bad omen.

Rodionova def. Barna 4-6 6-3 6-2.
Molik/Serra Zanetti def. Barna/Cohen Aloro 6-3 1-0 retired.

Here's a quote from a yahoo-article (sid):

"Ich habe einfach schlecht gespielt und mich auf dem Platz nie richtig wohlgefühlt", sagte die gebürtige Rumänin: "Dieses letzte Turnier war einfach eines zuviel. Trotz allem bin ich aber mit dem Jahr 2002 zufrieden."

She already seemed to be tired in Linz, so she is probably right. I also suppose Anca was the one who retired.

Now enjoy your holiday and see you in January, Anca !

(But she will probably play National Champs in December)

Yes, the tremendous pressure of her first cheering thread must have psyched her out. We have to curtail our enthusiasm in the future. ;)

It's been a long season, she's played an enormous number of matches. As many as the average Top 10 player because of her frequent participation in qualifying. And she's done splendidly to capture and maintain the coveted spot as German No. 1 - although it's not the most hotly contested race at the moment.

But I do have my doubts for next season. She will get main draw entrance much more frequently - which will lose her an important source of her ranking points. 25 of her 39 match wins (excluding Bronx) this season came in qualifying.

Except for Estoril and Gold Coast, she hasn't gone particularly deep in the main draws. Essentially, she needs to play even better next season to maintain her current ranking. And she needs to improve quite a bit to reach the Top 50 - and stay there. Let's hope she can continue her progress.

And I'd like to see her defend that National Championship title in December!

I agree. Anca is very good in playing qualifying, now she has to learn to win more maindraw matches. However, considering that her last year's end-ranking was 110, she has done very well this season. :)

The good things is that she has gained points during the whole season, so she's not in danger to suddenly drop a lot of places.
She will lose quite a lot of points right in January (QF Gold Coast), but then it's basically nothing until April. Maybe she will have a shot at the top 50 then. :)

she WILL lose points in gold coast??? sorry, but i expect that she will win there! ;)
yeah, you're right. she played a high level this year and it's not easy to continue this - or make it better. but why not?
let's hope for another nice season! :hearts:
will she play the german national championships (and defend her title)?
