Do you guys drive a manual or automatic car ?

From what I see, here in the UK most people drive manual and automatics are considered for 'lazy or not good enough drivers'. Whereas in the rest of Europe and the Americas, automatic is more common ?

It's the same in Belgium as in the UK then: if you can really drive, you drive manually.

The first car I ever bought (in '85) was an automatic and every one I've had since has been also. I've driven manual but it was decades ago. But I live near the Motor City and I think about everything is automatic nowadays...unless you have a $$$ sportscar but I don't have to worry about driving one of those.

I had this same decision to make after i passed my test last year. Ive never been interested in having a manual car....fiddling about with gears when yu dont have to just never appealed to me....driving in a city and having a max speed limit of 70mph kinda limits the experience of gears imo aswel.

So i passed my test in a manual car (just to shut everyone up whinging that i could only drive auto's if i didnt) and i bought a manual car striaght after aswel. Drove it around for 2 weeks and hated it....sold the car...bought a semi-automatic....which bascially drives like an automatic as i never put it into manual and i LOVE it! lol.

Go for automatic....much easier and nicer to drive...esp in rush hour

Automatic is for girls and for large cities. Never owned automatic car, and for as long as I have alll four of my limbs in my possession and control, I won't.

Automatic because I don't think I'd be able to focus on shifting gears, listening to music and watching the road.

I wouldn't mind owning a manual in the future though, just when I'm more confident.

Automatics are the work of Satan and should banned.

Manual. I've never tried driving automatic :scared:

Well it does all the work for you. No need to be scared. :rolls: Honestly, of all the cars I've had, only one was a stick and I threw out the clutch on it. And then I totalled it. :o But they are not too common here anymore.

Even though autos now have like 18 speeds, manuals still get better mileage.

Plus if you have any kind of sports car or German car, driving it with an auto is like having phone sex with Anastasia Myskina.*

It's nice, but you're not really getting the whole experience.

*Yes, I know you were expecting Lena D. But let's be serious, phone sex? Lena D.? With Mommy Vera right there in the room with her? I don't think so.

manual all the way! i guess none but some lazy ones drives with authomanic gear...and then it's much better and funnier, most of all is saftier because you can modulate the speed better when you drive on mountain streets :yeah:

I miss driving Manual. I find I get way more distracted when i'm driving automatic because you don't really need to do anything. :rolls:

Technically, you should also have CVTs on the list. I think most hybrids have them, and they are quite popular in the U.S. You don't have to shift them, but they work on a whole different principle from traditional automatics.

I doubt very many of us have cars with paddle shifters, so I'll let you off the hook for not including those! ;)

I have a manual, but after having driven my parent's automatic car, I would much rather prefer automatic! It's so much easier to drive in the city. However, I drive the auto car like a manual, except I don't have to push the freaking clutch with my left foot :P

I have the paddle shifters :p....i do use them occasionally aswel....i think if yu jsut got rid of the clutch pedal and the whole "bite" part of driving actually moving a gear stick wudnt be so much hassel

Automatic. I was looking for a car the first 4 months of this year because every car I saw in my price range was a manuel. I dont have time to be switch gears and pressing the clutch. Automatic is easier in traffic, hills, and just in general...all you do is press the gas, break and stear.

Lol at how many people have trouble changing gear!

Ive been in a car with ppl that have been driving manuals for 20 years and they still do the odd stall, esp when on a hill lol. I honestly dont see the benefit driving wise of a manual. :p

Pffft, hill-starts are easy. I've always had a manual car though I've driven a couple of my dad's automatic cars hundreds and hundreds of times over the years. I like both but if I had to choose I'd choose a manual. I don't see the problem driving it in traffic and like I said I've driven automatic cars countless times.
