Any suggestions? I'm making a playlist.

I need a really depressing song/songs. I'm talking about slit-your-wrists depressing, I'm trying to get one of my housemates to move out!

So far I have a few Damien Rice songs and Bright Eyes by Art Gafunkel.

"Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails or Johnny Cash...

"Cancer" by My Chemical Romance...

"Blasphemous Rumours" by Depeche Mode?

"Sweet Dreams" - Marilyn Manson?

"One" - Metallica?

Anything by Karen Carpenter makes me want to blow my head off.

My Gran has an album by a Scottish singer called Lena Zavaroni. Lena died some years ago when she was very young and apparently had a very difficult life. With dreadful anoerexia (not sure if that's how you spell it!). You can see her on YouTube singing Going Nowhere. I always want to cry when I hear it as it summed up Lena's life. She had a lovely voice but seems to have been a tortured soul. I think there was even a book and play written about her.

'River' by Joni Mitchell. I had a roommate once who played this song after he got dumped and it was really sad. At first. When he kept playing it, time after time, I just got mad. Song is still pretty depressing though.

Yeah, the Clapton song is very  I don't know if most people know that the song is about his son. He died when he fell out a window in NYC when he was very young =(

Another sad song is Everybody Hurts by REM.

So true, I always found the original version of 'Metal Heart' so beautiful. There's a harrowing performance of this song on Youtube. I'm amazed she managed to rework it into a positive song on 'Jukebox'.

I dont find Moon Pix particularly depressing, although I dont really listen to the words. I find her voice rather soothing. Her music is sad, but because I heard a lot of it, it does not really affect my mood. Its the piano on The Greatest is so sombre and so is her voice, like she could really do with a drink.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already but "All By Myself" has got to be right up there. I usually love sad/depressing songs because they're beautiful and offer a little catharsis but this one leans a little too much to the glum side - though, it is still a VERY good song.

i know maybe it's a bit inappropriate as this song is already a translated version of a folk ballad of my land about a guy who dies battling on the top of our mountains and his soul prays his girlfriend to go there and take the flower (stelutis alpinis) which was born on his blood to ramind her of him forever.
