[1]Ruflina Taliamanosoko def. [WC]Yoona Im 6/2, 1/6, 6/4
No mercy shown from the queen of Africa, who captivates even northern Arabs. The rookie was left in awe - well, apart from the second set, when Ruffy mostly stood signing autographs.

Alesandra Kirilova def. [6]Elise Mesane 7/5, 1/6, 6/2
Elise more happy to look at hats than the ball and Sasha got this handed on a plate.

Cristina-Elena Vladimirescu def. [5]Candela Sanchez 4/6, 6/4, 7/6(6)
March & April combined singles results: 1-10. Nevertheless, both players showed excellent tennis on occasion and refused to lose; eventually Cristina was the first to get the mini-break just after the second interval of the tie-break.

[3]Jennifer Casanova def. Annalisa Benedetti 6/4, 0/6, 6/2
Some of Ruffy's enthusiasm for Africa rubbed off on Jen, who is having a very good season. Rookie Nali is still looking for consistency.

Alijah Pemovic def. [4]Emilia Jarocka-Pottinger 6/1, 1/6, 7/6(3)
Em outside Fed Cup this year after this match: 2-11. Many thought Alijah would throw away another good start, but she stuck in there and played an excellent deciding breaker with 4 of 5 first serves spot on.

[Q]Lindsay Galbraith def. [8][WC]Mia Henriksson 2/6, 7/6(6), 6/3
Mia showing after-effects of her Stockholm heroics - nothing such on Lindsay who came back after early setbacks.

Hafdis Björk Runarsdottir def. [7]Pamela Bowden 1/6, 6/3, 6/4
Yeah, we don't know either. By all laws of the universe Hafdis' mind should just have gone after tanking the first set.

[2]Saba Abid def. [Q]Aveta Tenesova 6/4, 4/6, 7/6(5)
Strangely, in a tournament chocked full with upsets as per usual, the top two seeds have comparatively little trouble; all right, Saba needed three sets and a breaker, but looked to have something more in the tank for the weekend.

Singles Results, Quarterfinals

[1]Ruflina Taliamanosoko def. Alesandra Kirilova 6/3, 6/4
Despite Berenika calling from Stuttgart in support, poor Alesandra had no confidence going in and couldn't even muster a set.

Cristina-Elena Vladimirescu def. [3]Jennifer Casanova 1/6, 6/2, 7/5
Cristina seemed like a new player after getting some refreshment in the first set interval.

[Q]Lindsay Galbraith def. Alijah Pemovic 3/6, 7/5, 7/5
Lindsay beats up on her friend again, just as in the morning ssession. A few Brits who had come across from Gibraltar were ecstatic about getting one over on the Aussies though.

[2]Saba Abid def. Hafdis Bjork Runarsdottir 6/4, 4/6, 7/6(3)
Clearly, backing against Hafdis is the only thing that works. Two seeds in the semi-final of an International, what's the world coming to?

Doubles Results, Quarterfinals

[1]Casanova/Taliamanosoko def. Abid/Im 6/3, 4/6, 7/6(4)
Ruffy on course for the double.

A. Benedetti/Sanchez def. [3]Mesane/Runarsdottir 7/6(1), 7/6(1)
Hafdis happy to hit the town, while Nali and Candela played well together and were fairly comfortable in the tie-breaks.

[Q]Galbraith/Minella def. [4]Bowden/Kirilova 6/4, 3/6, 7/5
Lindsay's fifth five-setter. Well duh. Alesandra had woken up a little but was still dazzled from the morning's destruction.

[2]Henriksson/Jarocka-Pottinger def. Chan/Vladimirescu 7/5, 7/5
Em and Mia recovered from their singles beatdown with a better attitude today. A nice match with a few unfortunate errors.

Singles Results, Semifinals

Cristina-Elena Vladimirescu def. [1]Ruflina Taliamanosoko 0/6, 6/4, 6/3
These two had never met, and it took some time for Cristina to adjust her game - but when she did it was a remarkable lift. Well placed returns and gritty, patient play was enough for the Transilvanian to reach her first FWTT final, while Ruffy's dream of winning a singles title in Africa - the only continent she hasn't won - will have to be delayed yet another year.

[Q]Lindsay Galbraith def. [2]Saba Abid 7/6(6), 5/7, 7/6(1)
A three-and-a-half-hour winner fest, the local crowd certainly got their money's worth - it was lively, as the travelling Britons were opposed by locals who cheered for the Muslim. Galbraith only broke once in the match, but was solid on serve, and towards the end of the third set Abid simply had no answer to her serving variations.

Doubles Results, Semifinals

[1]Casanova/Taliamanosoko def. A. Benedetti/Sanchez 6/3, 2/6, 6/4
Ruffy took out her frustration on the newly formed pairing, while Jen kept her mind calm when the wheels nearly came off during the second set.

[Q]Galbraith/Minella def. [2]Henriksson/Jarocka-Pottinger 7/6(2), 1/6, 6/3
Lindsay prevails in the third set yet again, though this time she had quite a lot of help from Jessamine, who cheered her teammate on after she showed clear signs of exhaustion in the second set. Mia and Em are still looking for that first title of 2011.

Singles Result, Final

[Q]Lindsay Galbraith def. Cristina-Elena Vladimirescu 6/4, 3/6, 7/6(5)
This match burst into life in the third set, with both players finding the little extra in their chase for their first singles title. Eventually, Galbraith seized on a short first serve on match point to win her first title - on clay, bizarrely enough.

Håkon

Doubles Result, Final

[1]Casanova/Taliamanosoko def. [Q]Galbraith/Minella 6/2, 7/5
Jen and Ruffy take their third title this year, consolidating their second place in the race. The qualifiers looked in awe early on, and couldn't quite lift their game towards the end of the second set.

Michael.
