7-5 3-6 6-7(3) in 2hrs 50mins.
Tough loss. Not really much in it.

But Mchale did win a 52% of the 228 total points played. So can't argue with that.

Good effort, Heather.

Horrible loss. No wonder she cried afterwards.

Hopefully she'll bounce back because this last month has been pretty dire.

Everyone is acting like this is an upset when Christina is the higher ranked player.
Did anyone even see this?
4-1 up (one break) is really not much of a lead.
They are both young, give Heather some time.

Congrats to Christina!

I don't think anyone's surprised about the result, just the manner of the defeat is upsetting for Heather. Still, I bet Heather will be relishing a rematch sooner rather than later.

I don't really think Heather choked... sure she was up the early break and led 4-1, but that's just one break. And I watched the livescores the whole match and almost every service game for both girls went to 30. So holds were never a sure thing.

I think Christina feels no pressure against the top ranked girls and goes for her shots a lot more freely. It's good to see her grinding through a match like this, although Heather has been playing like a top 100 player, so she shouldn't really be lumped with girls like Garcia or Pivovarova.

I hate to be direspectful to Christina, she did well to fight back when she was down in the second and third and had a good tourny in Miami but Heather had one of the easier qualification positions in the main draw and if she really wants to be making strides on the WTA, she has to be winning matches like these and taking advantage of the draw she has.

So sad to hear that she was crying after the match, it seems since this xperia hot shots nonsense, the expectation of her becoming a 'break-out' star is affecting her more than she is going to admit. She's said in her past that she doesn't feel any pressure but we have to put things into perspective, since Nassau she hasn't been on top form. I just hope this doesn't affect her, I don't think it will because I believe she is a fighter and has the right mentality to get back on track but i'm not expecting anything big from her until at least after the clay court season.

Bad luck Hev, head high, remember your performences from earlier this year

I don't understand how all the Watson fans are so surprised and upset at this result. Christina has had marginally better results so far on the pro tour and losing 7-6 in the third to McHale is no shame for Watson.

Congrats Christina :yeah:

You're right. It is impressive that Robson has received many more handouts for a much longer period of time than McHale despite being a year and 8 months younger.

One could swap those names and it would make an equal amount of sense.

LOL. Dream on. What has Robson ever achieved? McHale has several WTA maindraw wins, Robson has just ONE and it was through her opponent retiring. Plus, the other week Robson lost in the second round of a $25,000 to some random ranked 400. :o

McHale was still losing R1 of junior slams when progressing to seniors. Laura strolls to the latter stages without breaking sweat - hell at least the girl won a slam (at 14 no less) how many did McHale even make QF of? :tape:

As for comparing Heather...2 QF at WTA level, one at 100k level compared to what? A couple of 2nd rounds....McHale is 6-9 this year for goodness sake :rolls: I know who I would rather have playing for GB and she already is

LOL I love it how you're referring to Juniors. Who gives a **** about juniors. Those results don't seem to be helping Robson now anyway.

And for the record, McHale reached the semifinals of Quebec City last year, so no, that's not a second round. :awww: And anyway, in the last 12 months, McHale's reached third rounds in Indian Wells, Charleston and Cincinnati which are all Premier Mandatory/Premier 5/Premier events. I think that's better than reaching the QF of Auckland and Memphis, and the ranking points reflect that. You only need to win two rounds to get to the QF in those events anyway, the same number McHale won to get to third rounds in far bigger events.

And lastly, if Watson's so much better then how come McHale's ranked 25 places higher? :spit:

Yeah, thanks for lumping all us Brits together. Oh, and I think a couple of you are being a bit harsh on Laura Robson. May I remind you that she got to 189 in the world last October at the age of 16 and has sustained two injuries since then.

Heather is still better in seniors :rolls: How many ITF titles or even finals does McHale have? Lets not even mention that she has been playing seniors for 2 years longer :rolls: She clearly doesnt have the champion mentality to string together an entire week of good wins to take a title. A few upsets in the early rounds of big events is not enough to make her top 10 material :wavey:

Quebec City was the weakest event ever. Highest victory was 149 :rolls: hardly 25k material. Her ranking will drop afterwards this year, its already over inflated from that joke of an event.

Laura is 2 years younger and injured so its irrelevant but at least shes managed an ITF title :rolls:

Robson sluts  she's only junior star. Heather or Xtina are much better in seniors. Laura can't win over Mladenovic for example. She isn't as good as media talks. British media makes a next great super star from Robson. Maybe she will be in Top100 in year, maybe two, but Heather is much talented in my opinion. I'm not sure about McHale. She can defeat Kuznetsova and lose against to weak player in ITF circuit... From there young players, I think that Heather will be the greatest :)

Again, if Heather's better in seniors then why is she ranked considerably lower?

Why are you fretting about ITF results, just because you know McHale's WTA results are much better? How many WTA maindraw wins does Robson have?

How is the fact that McHale's been playing seniors longer an excuse? They're both born in May 1992.

"A few upsets in the early rounds of big events is not enough to make her top 10 material" You think Watson losing in first rounds of WTA events like Charleston makes her top 10 material? You think losing in second rounds of $25Ks makes Robson top 10 material?

How many WTA maindraw wins does Watson have outside International events? ONE. McHale's had at least 10 or so in Premier+ events by now. And Robson, of course, has ZERO.

Anyway, McHale just thrashed Kleybanova 6-1 6-0 in the next round. :wavey:

Wow! Robson won a $10,000! I'm pretty sure a WTA International semifinal or a Premier Mandatory third round is just a bit better than winning a freaking 10K. :spit:
