If there are people who started to follow tennis in IW/Miami and now are watching Marbella, they actually might think that clay is faster surface than hard

4 Tie Breaks in 2 matches! :hysteric:
Being a fan of Alex isn't advisable for people with cardiac insufficiency... :o

A big commendation to Pivovarova who has made a great match with almost any errors, strong groundies (with the thinnest arms on the whole tour ) and huge defense skill. If she can keep it up, Top 100 should be no problem! :)

To Alex, she really didn't play bad! Only her serve sucked in the first set and she didn't take her BPs especially in the decider. You must consider that it was her first WTA match on clay since Prague last year and the first is often most difficult. Some forehands went into the net, but she had to fight for every single point because Pivo pushed like a top player. :)

At least she proved her fighting spirit and showed that she can also win close matches! :cheer:

Good luck in round 2 and seize your day off! ;)

Nice effort by Nastya. I think she is going to have a pretty decent season on clay. It won't be long before she is in the top 100.

As for Alex, well....it wasn't a perfect match from her by any means. But in a strange way, for a 1st match on clay this year, it was the perfect start to the clay season. What could be better than getting reacclimated to the clay with a gruelling nailbiting epic 3 hour workout? To come through a tight match like that will feel just fine and with a days rest Alex will now be good and ready for her 2nd round match.

What's wrong with that? Madrid is definitely faster than Miami:tape:

Nastya improved from the last time I saw her play, but as usual choking away important leads in the third set cost her & that miss at 45*, 30-30 was :(

Alex

Although it wasn't the best start of clay season, I think Alex is able to win a lot on clay.

Nastya could have a very good clay season if she plays some of these smaller events :).
