This thread is desined to let you know who is Tennis Forum's favourite player of the latest month. It is nohow subjective and based only on database of your posts made in GM during that month. I've chosen General Messages, because it is where the life is, and it ideally represents our forum's general attitude, geneal trends. Forum itself, as the biggest international community of its sort, represent global women's tennis tendencies.
I've written a computer program which collects and analyses all the posts that were made in GM, and provides us some stats that cannot be put under a question mark, because numbers don't lie.:p
I will briefly explain you criterias the tables above are based on:
1) Player of the month. Player who has had more references to than the others wins the award. There are problems with players who have the same name or surname: Maria Sharapova, Maria Kirilenko; Serena Williams, Venus Williams. If a post consists only a reference to "Maria" you can't learn computer what exactly Maria the post is about. I've decided that the priority is given to players of higher popularity. Because ultimately the goal is to get the most popular player of the month, and honestly speaking only Sharapova has chances. As for the Williames, 90% of the time they are called by names, so there won't be significant error whatsoever. I've given the 'Williams' alias to Serena anyway, cause she's more talked about than Venus atm. Let me know if you want to see the whole list of aliases of players, but I'm sure I've included all the "other names" that players have like Kim's "Medusah", Ana's "Anci" etc. Only top 100 players were analysed btw!
2)Posters' Dedication Index. Shows how much are certain posters dedicated to certain players.
Calculated as a sum of two factors. A) absolute amount of posts mentioning a player and B) ratio of user's posts referring to a player to all the post the user made. Both A) and B) equal 100 points. So the person who ONLY talks about the fave player and talks more than everyone else will score 200.
You will notice that not only fans are in the player's row, because posters who simply like to talk about the player (even haters) have chance to make it.
3)Most Active Poster. Made most posts.
4)Troll of the Month. Has been called a troll more oftenly than everyone.
5)Writer of the Month. Has the longest posts.
6)Lazy Poster of the Month. The shortest ones.
7)Thread of the Month. Thread with most posts.
8)Sweet Couple of the Month. Two posters who has had most conversations betweet themselves.
9)Smile of the Month. Most favourite smiles.
Major topic of this thread is determining our player of the month, other stats are additional, for fun purposes. The thread will be updated monthly. Discussions are very appreciated in this thread. If I see your interest in given stats, I will provide you some really cool timeline graphs, a-la "how the word 'pusher' in here is corresponding with Caroline's activities"...:p
To be honest, author of these lines was not very pleased founding himself in the trolls list, but he's certain BepaMaria took already care about my humble self not defending that status in April.
In the end, let's just praise our winners, Kim and Caroline.:worship: And everybody who found their names in the stats. And in the very end, I am very upset that the facepalm smile is turing out to be out of the top 20 fave smiles.
Always sincerely yours, tea.:hatoff:

Wow what a terrific thread! I can see that the stats always can be used to bolster any arguments one wants. As a relative newcomer to this forum I am pleased to see that I have made some impact.
I do want to question the category of troll of the month. I find it hard to fathom what constitutes a troll in this forum. For example I am also a member of a political message board of a certain political persuasion. A troll is easily identifiable there; it is one who is against the political persuasion of the board. Likewise I am a member of some authors’ message boards whose works I enjoy. A troll there is one who does not like that author’s works. Although I am a Caro fan I haven’t become a member of her message board- a little lazy there I guess but obviously a troll there is a Caro hater.
So I would have thought a troll here would be one who hates women’s tennis- one who thinks men’s tennis is superior in every way. However since this forum does not allow any discussion of men’s tennis then ergo a true troll does not have access or a platform.
In trying to be objective I applaud your criteria of deciding troll of the month. How many times one is labeled a troll by other posters is certainly objective but I am not sure that is a reliable test, considering what apparently a troll is as used by posters. You see Tea most of the times you are called a troll by another poster occurs when the other poster cannot come up with a cogent argument so he/she resorts to an ad hominem attack.
So what I am saying is that being labeled a troll here does not have the same meaning as other message boards. I think troll as used in this forum is synonymous with stupid, idiot, cretin etc. For example I have not been called a troll by anyone as far as I know but I have been called stupid and idiot a few times. But because of your narrow definition I am not in the running for troll of the month and I think that is unfair and not a true measure.
So my suggestion is that troll of the month should not be adjudged solely by being labeled a troll by another poster. Any epithets one attracts should count in this category. I have no problem in retaining the name of troll of the month since I guess it has a better connotation than idiot of the month.
Finally in reviewing this post I am overjoyed by the fact that it will not hurt my statistics in the writer of the month category.

Sharpie gained the most.:pI think you should build-in some kind of negative filter because otherwise the stats will be heavily biased towards the Pova. For example lots of people say "little Masha" and they are talking about Kiriliko but in your program that will be added to big Masha's total... which already was awarded the standalone "Maria"... So basically almost all posts dealing with Maria Kirilenko are added to Pova's total

I think you should build-in some kind of negative filter because otherwise the stats will be heavily biased towards the Pova. For example lots of people say "little Masha" and they are talking about Kiriliko but in your program that will be added to big Masha's total... which already was awarded the standalone "Maria"... So basically almost all posts dealing with Maria Kirilenko are added to Pova's total
Big injustice I know!:p However no simple solution for this. I can make an exception for these two Marias, but even as it is it gives a tiny error.
This
if (p.text.Contains("Maria") && t.title.Contains("Kiri"))
returned only 22. Not worth bothering IMO.;)
and
Count of "Masha": 338
Count of "little Masha": 0

I'm a little disappointed I did not make any of the lists. I gotta step up my game!Haha - but too bad because from now on the stats will be more artificial and skewed cuz lots of posters will start to post in such a deliberate way as to purposefully influence tea's stats. Something I don't have to do cuz I'm already up there... my name is mentioned a few times on the already existing, influence-free figures :p
That is what is apparent: despite the fact that I post very little here (especially in comparison with most other posters) I still made it to the top as the 10th "writer of the month" and 4th most dedicated to Kim :hearts:

Hmmm now that you mention it, I think you do have a point. Probably around 70% of Pushniacki's refs are by haters spewing their anger and malice about her. If anything, she is probably one of the most hated on the forum as well.
That means actually the most popular player for March is......Sharapova:eek:

Most hated? Probably, which is very sad, as she is a sweet, nice girl. Most of the haters are probably closet fans who follow the crowd and hate to fit in.
Wozniacki seems to only be hated because she's #1 with no slam, which is mostly Clijsters fault for being a part-timer. Part-timer's don't deserve the #1 spot. Wozniacki, who plays so much tennis, deserves it. She cares and plays as much as she can. That's dedication and that deserves the top spot.

I will not be posting detailed stats of later ever again, but I think we can make an exception for the last year, memories of which are still fresh, so you can find stats of the entire 2010 year in the end of posts #1 and #2.
Personally I was surprised that Serena won the popularity contest by such a margin. Despite she was a star during half a year I would think she will only slightly win, 'cause she obviously has less haters than the current world's tennis leader.:p
What do you think, will Serena take leadership in popularity back when she comes back on tour this year? Really not easy to predict.:)
If anyone again gets offended because of the troll list I will remove such list for good, although I am finding it fun, and I'm not the only one (sure debby would love seeing herself as #2 of the last year:D).
I think I will get rid of boring lists like 'lazy poster' but will add a couple of new ones. I want everything to be set before the end of April, so that the pattern of monthly updates was set from then on.:)

166 is not an absolute number of your refs to Elena, it's a score out of 200 max. Given how high it is you may conclude how indeed dedicated to Lena you were in '10.
