From your reaction, it seems that you do "feel bad" about it on some level.

Anyway - that Bible passage has nothing to with April Fool's Day.

I don't get it.

The Bible alleges that fools say in their heart that there is no god, therefore April fool's day would be atheists' day.

If the Bible sez so, it MUST be true. A book with talking snakes and zombies is automatically 100% true.

I think that it's just not very smart to say that there's no God without a reason

+ Why don't you believe in God?
- Coz I dont want to!!!
+ So what arguments do you have?
- It's all bullshit!

That's what 99% of atheists will tell you and I think that's just dumb :weirdo:

IMO the best thing to do about religion is to read philosophy and see with what position do you feel most identified with. I really wouldn't be a Christian today if I hadn't read philosophy and decided that I wanted to believe in God, I find it very pathetic that people believe in God because that's what they have been taught since they were little, I mean no intellectual curiosities, nothing  Just believe in what you hear, be a sheep :help:

I respect agnosthics though, they just think that there's no way to know if there's a God or not so they don't waste their time with it. Again, I just find it dumb as hell to say THERE'S NO GOD and that's it.

Your logic is super twisted.

So saying there's no god without a reason is not very smart but saying there's no way of knowing if there's a god is smart? WTH!? You also said at the end that saying there's no god and that's is dumb, that works both ways then following your logic.

And I thought the whole point of religion was to believe in god WITHOUT A REASON - there's something called fate some people talk about.

So. Fucking. Good. :sobbing: I love this response. See, it's not really the burden of an atheist to disprove every single thing in the world. The premise is that this thing never existed to begin with, and to conjure up something and force people to disprove it is reverse logic.

St. Thomas Aquinas...which has long been refuted.

René Descartes is my favourite philosopher :wavey: And 'which has long been refuted' my ass, the only 'proof' that people gave me in this forum about how it has been refuted is that quantum mechanics say that matter can generate itself from nothing. Well that is wrong, when the physicists refer to "nothing," they are, in fact, referring to something other than the literal absence of anything, even if there's no matter on it, spacetime is already something. Anyone gonna answer seriously to this? Cause you know, it's pathetic when someone is trying to debate about an issue which has been a matter of philosophical controversy for centuries and people only say 'God doesn't exist :silly:'

Please tell me that you don't accept Rene Descartes' proof for the existence of God given in the 3rd Meditation. But yes, I like Descartes A LOT too. :wavey:

If I remember correctly, you were putting forth Aquinas' Five Ways as arguments for the existence of God. And yes, all 5 arguments have been sufficiently refuted. I agree with you that atheists fall into the same trap when they definitely claim that "God doesn't exist."

Over the years, I think I have warmed up a bit more towards people who believe, and even preach about god. I guess with time its easier to put all the abuse that some of these people have hurled at me and my community behind me. Its good, even healthy to have faith, but please don't go on forcing it on us.

Yeah... I love reading Descartes but who do I want to fool? the first time I read about the way he proved God's existence I already thought that something was wrong there, I mean he's absolutely rationalist but the assumptions he makes to prove his main points aren't.

I had no idea that Aquinas' Five Ways had been refuted. Can you please tell me how they've been refuted? (I know it's hard work, so if you don't feel like doing it just tell me who did it and I'll do the research)

I don't believe that there's one person in particular who has refuted them. But if you search online, you will find several people who have put forth criticisms of the 5 ways. You should read them and determine if you think that they're wrong.

This website (very reputable) mentions some of Aquinas' arguments: http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/cosmological-argument/

This website (not sure if it's reputable though) also tries to criticize Aquinas: http://vorpal.us/2007/10/the-five-ways-of-st-thomas-aquinas-are-all-dead-ends/

I think it's pretty much agreed in academic philosophy that there's no widely accepted sound argument for the existence of God (although that doesn't mean that he doesn't exist). That's why I claimed that Aquinas' arguments have been refuted.

I don't think you know what an athiest is. An athiest is somone who doesn't believe in god because there is NO PROOF that god excists. There are some athiests ( like myself) who if handed proof of a god would say fine its true. And as there is no proof today that god exists in our opinion there is no god.

I used to be a moderate christian. I prayed from time to time, went toc church or chapel quite often. I attended confirmation classes and got confirmed when I was 12 but by 13 I didn't believe.

And an agnostic is someone who believes there may be something out there but not necessarily the gods who have been spoonfed to world.

Maybe get your defninitions right before judging other people?:wavey:
