She needs the matches and confidence  Maybe $25k is a bit low, but she definitely needs to hit the ITFs.

:spit::haha: I saw the thread for this ITF in the challenger forum, and the thought of this happening actually crossed my mind. Didn't think she'd actually do it for singles though.:o

But probably the best decision she's made in a while.

25K? That's a bit low even for Shoudin!

She needs confidence & if she's been there before, maybe knows people she's going to spend the week with, its not a bad move

Good on her for wanting to get some match play on green clay before Charleston :bounce:

If anything, wouldn't it hamper her confidence even more when she doesn't win?

She needs as much practice on the dirt as she can get, because her form on the red clay last year was BAD. Not to mention that first round losses in Ponte Vedra Beach and Charleston would mean there's a small chance of her falling out of the top 100.

25K is definitely low for her, but it should mean that she's guaranteed some matches.

She's a joke.

It seems a bit ridiculous, but honestly with her record I think it's a good move - Players like Amy Frazier played 25k challengers through the years because they were close to home and meant extra match play so I don't see any harm.

Groth played 25ks while she was in the top 30/40.
But no one is making fun of her  Grow up people.

#2 seed is the world #76. It's not that bad.

And didn't Radwanska play an ITF when she was top 20?

No, it was Wozniacki - 100k Odense in 2008. :)
The last Aga's ITF was 100k Biella. She was 2nd seed there and 36th in the rankings then and won the whole thing of course.

At this point Melanie may not even win the high school state championships in Georgia.

Um, they did at the time. I recall one poster criticizing Groth for stealing opportunities away from lower ranked players.

It's not a bad move. Melanie needs to string wins together..

Strong draw for a 25K. 4 players in the top 100. Mel doesn't actually seem out of place in the draw at all.
Would be cool to see her in the final against McHale, Brengle, or Caroline Garcia.

Just realized Alex was in the draw. Awesome.

I don't know. She's like the "poor man's" Wozniacki on TF (loved to be hated) but without as many supporters to defend her:sobbing: I've never understood why so many people hate on her. She seems okay to me. At the end of the day though...even if she never recaptures that one moment, she can always say that she got to the quarters of U.S. Open beating Dementieva and Sharapova. No matter how you cut it...that's cool. Suck it Haters!:bolt:

Oudin is 75th, itīs not unusual that players around her ranking are playing (even 25k) challengers

It is rather curious: she is berated when she loses matches at WTA level, and people tell her to go down to the ITF's, because 'that's where she belongs'. Then, when she does play a Challenger tournament, she gets the short end of the stick yet again. Very unfair.

25K is a bit too low. She should try with 50K or 75K.

My friend, who is a Justine Henin fan, said me one day that Oudin is going to be the next Juju. I have somehow lost Mel off my radar. Can anyone confirm that she's still going that way to become the next Henin?

im not complaining, this is a very suitable move for her, in many ways she jumped this stage and should go back and learn how to play itf

if she uses itf to get her ranking back up she is on the way to become the next Henin or at least the next capriati. very smart and wise move by her coaches

There isnīt a big difference between 25k and 50k...both 50kīs this week have even weaker field than 25k in Pelham (OK not really, just compared the TOP seeds) so why to travel in Spain or China when she has a tournament in USA? Just for feeling good for playing bigger challenger? And for those who say that she should win..actually there are players who can beat her even there...Rodina, McHale etc. are players who definitely wouldnīt be easy opponents for Oudin in her current form

Did your friend also think Monique Viele was going to be a top player?

People "hate" her because she's an easy target. Her US Open run was a fluke, in the sense that we probably won't see her again beating a couple of good players in a row, and she'll probably spend the rest of her career stuck in the 40 to 120 bracket.

This is probably around her level, maybe even higher. I'm starting to doubt she can win enough matches in a row to win a tournament.
