That is indeed horrendous.

What I like about Caroline is that, despite this terrible play, she still pushed the match and made Petkovic work hard for the set.
No other player can make you work like Caroline.

It is a bad day for Caroline, she is never this bad.

Doubtful. Ana would go for broke when she started losing and hit some outrageous winners while also hitting a string of unforced errors, so it would make more sense if winners-UE was 12-24 for Ana in a set.

well I think there's a reason the IW-Miami double is rare. I don't think Caro will make it very far this week

That's what I said in the live-scoring thread. We can ask Clijsters about that, it took her a lot of starmina and focus to do that :worship: and she was not even top 100 at that moment !
She was winning like 6-1 6-1 left and right, it allowed her to gain some energy to win Miami...
and Federer already did it, but his game is not that tiring....

whereas Caroline often plays long matchs, and is running a lot. Not good for Slams (7 matchs in a row) and mental toughness.

You have to give her props for managing to lose a set only 5-7 despite a -22 winners/ue diferential. ;) Of course it has more to do with Petkovic's ineptitude.

Caro hit like 54 UEs and 14 winners.... in three sets.

I don't know about the #1 bit (not playing that game) but I'd guess it's one of the worst stats for Woznaicki. Even those who hate her game know that she usually makes very, very few UEs. Clearly something's up with her.

naah, Safina reached 3 slam finals and had some nice wins against elite players on the tour (you know, back when elite ones actually played on the tour constantly). She was a huge headcase and quite injury prone though. Pushniacka is by far the worst Nr.1 talent and game wise.

Venus even losign 6-1 6-1 to Hingis at the Australian Open 2001 she had a fair share of winners IMO. Wozniacki´s ability to hit winners is disgusting to say the least.

This means that Caro somehow got lucky in IW or she played very well against Maria or that Maria was playing very badly...but one thing I know for sure is that she definitely did not get lucky or played very well in Miami...and that scoreboard was horrendous for a no.1 player... she sure could do so much better than this...

I am all for Wozniacki adding a more offensive dimension to her game, but what is with this absurd lust for winners over here? I cannot recall too many good matches by the so-called aggressive/power players that had pleasing winners to errors ratios. It is clear most people here never played the game, and have no conception of point-play (constructing points), game-play (stringing points together) and match-play (managing everything for several games at a stretch).

Also, what you need to take into account is that Petko probably had a lot of forced errors as well as unforced errors.

Those two winners come from a 7-5 first set vs Andrea, one hour long set, not the whole match.
Which anyway for being as contested as it was and the one hour long, yeah 2 winners is a ridiculous amount.

I remmember myself bashing Hingis for having 9 winners against Serena at the Usopen 1999 final, but that was a top notch Serena in the fitness department, and against a insipired Serena whom we know after that serve and groundies, is very little that you have left to command points and make winners.

Oops, my bad. But still..the point remains. Hingis getting her hat handed to her by Serena in top form is no shame..because Serena's just a force of nature. But Petkovic, no disrespect, ain't no Serena.

Despite this, WTATOUR.com puts her picture 7 (SEVEN) times on their home page today. This is disrespectful towards the sport itself, and a good reflection of the unfairness of the rankings....Caro just won Indian Wells. That's a Premier Mandatory. Before that she won Premier 5 Dubai and was in the final of Premier Doha.
So you want players who lose in every Premier to have their pics all over the front page?
Only Caro & Kim have won anything above Tier 2 in over 8 months
