Two moments of lol: That fail drop shot Kim did in the second / That smash no one could have missed in the third, but guess what... Sanchez did miss it. Couldn't stop laughing.

Martinez Sanchez missed so many overheads. Still I am pleased she is finding her form just in time for the clay season. She deserves at least one good FO run in her career, let's face it she aint getting any younger :sad:

I didnt like the match either, but maybe instead of bashing Kim, I think we should analyse :) why it was that bad. She kept hitting all the match to MJMS´s backhand (which is her better shot) but which is - and more importantly - a very flat shot. I think Kim tried to avoid lifting her shoulder too many times. Maria-Jose´s forehand has more spin than BH and the balls bounce higher. But all the balls that came back from MJMS´s BH were pretty flat and low.

If this was not on Kim´s mind, then i really dont get why she kept on playing to the Spaniard´s stronger side and didnt really make her run so much.

Hope she steps up next ;)

So far Kim is doing her best to copy IW; after 1R bye she has a near walkover in 2R where she drops just 2 games. In 3R she drops the second set but still squeezes out a 3-set win despite some pretty horrid serving. Will we see her retire in 4R next?

Should have been over in 2. MJMS's low 1st serve % gave Kimberley many chances to break (even though MJMS's 2nd serve can be quite good), despite Kimberley's at times appalling sloppyness, and near the end of the second set I could feel that Kimberley was trying to step it up to close out the match ASAP, but she ended up going for too much, a couple of decisive points were lost, and we earned ourselves a third set. Which was shite nearly from beginning to end, apart from a couple of points.

MJMS managed to rally with Kimberley on occasion (something she almost never managed to do in the last time I saw her play - vs Shriekarenka in Moscow), but her wonky groundstrokes are a massive liability on ROS - she nearly always chipped her returns back, and they either floated long, ended up on the net, or Kimberley ate them up. Her volleying/touch in the forecourt was at times amazing, but also did her in on a couple of decisive service games.

She won Rome last year, which happens to be the most important (History wise) clay tournament in the world after Roland Garros, but I guess that simple merit must drive you mad enough.

As for the match, pity the low first services percentage from María José and Kim's classic second set mental lapse but the result was mainly in her racquet :sad:

Well, in the end she is a top30 player with that FH, she must have something else, right?
