Most of us said that Lucie is capable of outplaying Stosur, but you can´t really ever say beforehand how is Lucie gonna play. Well, don´t know what happened in the first set (apart from the fact that Lucie scored three DFs in her very first service game), either Stosur played brilliantly, or Lucie dreadfully. At least she showed some fighting spirit at the end of the second set. Anyway, good luck on clay, Lucie.

Safarova is a god-awful returner, so not unsurprising if Stosur was serving well. Miami is like a surface of death for Safarova too. Minimal chances to absorb and redirect pace, and has to initiate rallies more often than not.

The match-up with Sharapova is interesting/potentially horrific.

Safarova just ridiculous..... Should have won this 6-2 6-1 but it's no secret she can lose to a top 300 player....

Agreed. Just because Lucie has a higher head to head than Sam, doesn't mean that she will automatically 100% beat Sam.

Their H2H certainly wasn´t the main reason -- by far. After all, their last meeting was at the beginning of 2009 -- Stosur was a different player back then.

The main reason was the fact that Stosur generally struggles on hardcourts against players who have a good serve and considerable firepower from both their wings. Stosur is normally pretty poor returner and her DH backhand is just horrible. Lucie happens to be such type of player (when she´s "on").

As for the yesterday´s match, I still don´t know what exactly happened (since it was not on live stream). Either Lucie played really badly, or Stosur played extremely well (that is, above her normal hardcourts level). The only indisputable fact is that Lucie lost her first service game in the macth for the most part because of her DFs (three DFs in her opening game).

Not surprised Sam won, the Miami courts are playing like clay courts.
