As I said she's needed a lucky draw ;) now she can enter top 200 and FO QD if she isn't entirely out of sorts.

She will defeat Czink easily. Petrova isn't an easy opponent so we'll see Sabine's real game in that match

Sabine should win R1 because she´s a much better player than Czink even though Sabine is far away from Top 100 but she´s coming back I true and of course Czink has dropped her form maybe due to injury I think so it should be an easy match... Petrova is tough but if Sabine makes her best she can win but at first a R1 win is needed....

This is just a disaster! Can't believe Sabine  Czink made 10 dfs and she can't serve, she is on her worst season (retired all of her tournaments etc.) and Czink almost had a chance to take 2nd set 6-2. She made lots of errors and now she took second set 7-5. In 1st set Czink had chance to break too but she couldn't use them. I don't care who wins now. Petrova will knock out either of them. So sad to see my favorite player this bad

She gave 4bps to Czink on her first game in 3rd set... She won't be luck this much against Petrova if she reaches to second round and also in Charleston!

:o bc of what I said or what?
As I said , only a guess, as there was obviously an injury break but also is possible of course that Sabine just served better :p

At least a win for Sabine, good fight, was able to hold her serve in 3rd set, won over 60% of pts over first serve, but still many things to work on , of course, but that win was important, especially for her confidence and also bc of Roland Garros Qualifying, but we cant expect anything against Petrova now, her first serve isnt as good as it used to be still, had problems to hold serve too often and her return also wasn´t that great, but as I said, most important thing is that she won and against Petrova she has no pressure at all for a change, she usually plays better against such players :)

2 1/2 sets bad service game for her standards,

but the good thing is that she battled through mentally, and that's probably more important atm

I'm relieved that she won. I was doubting her after that 2nd set but it's good that she closed the match out this time. She can overcome problems one at a time. Today she served out a match in the 3rd set which she hasn't done for a while!

I wrote this comment to Sabine's facebook status. This is my impression about her match performance.

"Congratulations for your first round win Sabine. To be honest, your match statistics and your game didn't impressed me much. I was expecting a win 2-0 and something like 6-2 6-3 for you.. Czink was so weak she made 13dfs and it basically means she gifted 3 games to you. More dramatic one is she had 11bp chances! 12/47 %26 1st return point statistic for a player like you is uneasy. The only good thing is you won a 3 set match and battled to the end. I'm telling these not to demoralize you just trying to embolden you and fix your mistakes for your next game! Please look over your mistakes today with your team and practice to confront them. I wish you best against Petrova. Good luck!"

The important thing is that she won and this will help her in her attempt to enter the FO qualifiers. But It's hard to expect a win v Petrova based on a performance like today. Atleast the pressure and expectation is less against a high ranked opponent.

It can be deceiving but didn't we see she lost lots of cheap points? Czink came from 0-40s... She is a sports person and she has to respect all the criticisms about her. Being a sports-person requires to be open to criticism. I wasn't rude, didn't say a bad word to her. Just said next time play better and avoid doing this mistakes. Sabine was feeling good about herself for finally getting that win and 'battling it out' as she said. I think she is quite sensitive to criticism and it looks like your post upset her when she was feeling good. She would probably prefer to hear these kinds of criticisms from her dad rather than fans. I didn't personally have a problem with your comments but since Sabine did and we are big fans, we should be understanding of her.

I second cosmoose's reply and add my 2 cents:

Your comment about Melinda (made seven DF in opening set, which Sabine won 63 by one break), says much more about yourself than quality of Melinda's play.
Melinda had eight of her eleven BPs in set two. She converted two and won set 75.
You need to know quality of Meldinda's service, if you judge Sabines (WTA 217) returns.

I don't deny that she just came back from a long season break but an opponent like Czink who didn't play much in this season, only played ITF and retired from them can be easy beatable for Sabine! Compare them achievements, team behind them, age, victories etc.. You said Czink's serve quality? What quality are you talking about? Is he serving better than Sabine does? Don't make me laugh guys. Mike maybe you are right, maybe she don't want to hear those from her fans...

[...] Sabine is now world #218 but we all know her real game!
Maybe this is the reason for your disappointment: Sabine was neither able to transform her results from 2009 into first quarter 2010 nor after her comeback. Reflect her losses in 2011 and maybe its time to adjust your expectations:

R2 Auckland Yanina Wickmayer (# 23) 26 63 26
Q2 Melbourne Vesna Manasieva (# 146) 67(5) 46
QF Midland Lucie Hradecka (# 106) 16 62 67(3)
Q1 [WC]Indian Wells Sorana Cristea (# ) 64 67(2) 26

Live scoring can be deceiving.

If you look at her service game stats, they were pretty bad, esp. in 2nd set with only 54% first serve points won. Normally she should have had Czink under control with her service, regardless of her return game.

Hope the match really was a turning point in terms of her game and her confidence. After an ominous 1st set, with its bad 1st serve, she played a great 2nd set and put the pressure on Petrova to retire. The determination to turn around the match was obviously terrific. She shows emotions on the photo, that I've posted, I've rarely seen from her.

Now she can enjoy the evening clash with Sharapova, which is apparently the biggest stage for her since Wimby 2009.

Don't underestimate Masha;), but have a quick look at these stats of her opponent:

1st Servive: 41%
Service points won: 14 (32% [1st: 6 points (33%); 2nd: 8 (31%)]

after watching her match against Sharapova, I'm starting to wonder if its lack of talent rather than lack of self-confidence.
Welcome in the boat!

IMO in 2009 Sabine was in media as overhyped as Melanie Odin (or as Alize Cornet in 2008). Sabine is still young and has plenty of time to fix her flaws and improve more to be a consistent player on the tour. If she is prepared to play on ITF level, I don’t know.

However, talent is one side of the coin and accomplishment is the other. There are so called talentless fighters, who achieve much more than these talents because they are working on her play and her fitness very hard.

I'm reposting what I wrote on the scoring thread.

First serves were below 40% for majority of the match.
Total lack of pace in her grond strokes, all directed to the middle of the court.
Masha kept hitting inside out forehand to Sabine's backhand....so easy, a caveman could it.
Sabine looking slow as ever. Maria made her run side to side all day.
At the end of the match, Sabine was so tired she couldn't move. Reaching for balls, shanking returns.
Few times Bine went for her shots, she dumped it into the net. over and over.
It was the proverbial deer in the headlight look for Sabine. No backup plan. Did she even have a plan?
Scary part was that Sharapova was not that sharp herself.

It was shocking how bad she was. There was no fight from Sabine.

really disappointing result from Sabine, didnt expect a win of course, but 26 06 is just horrible, main problems are still her bad movement ( I think she still is afraid of new ankle injury) and her bad serve and Sabine just needs her serve for her game, but to serve well you need to be confident, which is another problem of her, no mental strength at all....good thing is that she won two matches here, showed at least a good match (it seems) against Petrova and won 80pts...but yet she still only plays bigger tournaments which is pretty risky, I think she should play some smaller tournaments as well where she just gets a few more matches against weaker players..we´ll see how it goes on clay now but she definitely still needs to work on many things...today she probably was too tight, too nervous, already expected too much again after she won against Petrova but she is not ready yet, I hope for a good draw in Charleston..so far it is always like one step in the right direction and then again some disappointing results follow!

At first I wanted to watch this match and was annoyed there was no livestream. Now I'm glad there wasn't. It would have been too painful to watch I'm afraid. I did not expect Sabine to win this mach, but at least put up a good fight. Because if she did and with 2 wins here she would have left Miami with a good feeling, a bit more confident. But this match must have been so frustrating for her.

I do think she needs to play some smaller events. This way she hopefully she can play more matches, she can get some rhythm and confidence. Still a long road ahead of her I'm afraid
