Another 4-5 loss against Muhammed, but she won the doubles with Davenport

Davodus
Jul 15th, 2012, 09:58 AM
This time she was down 0-3 and 2-4 and got back to 4-4 and lost anyway  but because they were ahead and lost the final set it went into overtime...she needed to win 1 game before Muhammad won 3 and she held serve. The team were pretty happy  she played great in doubles but too many DFs in singles

mk27

She will get much tougher opponents next week in the singles.

Monday: Timea Babos
Tuesday: Irina Falconi
Thursday: One of the Pliskova twins

 that's more like it ALG :yeah: but I think it's tough for her, she's playing a lot every day with a lot of travelling around and she hasn't played competitive singles in a year, and not at a high level in years. The team of her and Lindsay is really good though, won again 5-2.

But the team lost despite winning 3 sets because of ALG's singles :tape:

They're the 2nd best women's doubles behind the Pliškova-Twins.

ALG lost 4-5 against Falconi, but won the doubles with Davenport

Next match is on Thursday where she must play against one of the Pliskova twins

Falconi has been doing well, so that's not a bad singles loss. I hope she and Lindsay beat the Pliskova twins.

Falconi has been doing well, so that's not a bad singles loss. I hope she and Lindsay beat the Pliskova twins.

Davenport won't play in this tie, ALG has to play with Juricova in the doubles. But she should have a good chance to win the singles match because the Pliskova twins have lost every singles matches so far.

She won her singles match against Kristyna Pliskova 5-3 but lost doubles with Juricova 4-5 in Philadelphia.

The next matches would be in tonight in Washington and in Kansas City on Saturday. I expect her to play only tonight cause KC isn't really the right direction.

They had MPs in the doubles at 4-2 4-3 and 4-4 :o couldve taken it to overtime. But oh well...i think she's definitely leaving by the weekend, she wont play WTT much longer at all. You're right, probably just the 1 more tie.

Martic is a very average partner, she can't get her game together in singles, why should she handle the doubles?
ALG goes on with bad doubles partners. Why isn't she playing with Peng, Zheng, Lisicki, Goerges, Peschke, Srebotnik, dunno, all the ones that already had some success in doubles?!? I already see her playing doubs with Malek at Linz/Luxemburg :D

crazillo

Thinking back, she is really unlucky that King/Shvedova won a slam just when ALG and King had agreed on a long term partnership. ALG really got injured at a very bad time of her career, having played really well in singles before that and also with a good partner like King.
I agree though, she should find a new partner although I think Martic isn't the worst she has had either...

She's playing with Peschke the rest of this year and next  I hope they do well, that's a good partnership if they can click!

Changing partners is part of the process for many players and Peschke has chosen a new partner in women's doubles for next year. She will be teaming with Anna-Lena Groenefeld, who has won 11 doubles titles and has been ranked as high as No. 14 in singles in 2006. Groenefeld spent time in Sarasota this past week working with Peschke on their doubles strategy.
"We will see how it goes," Peschke said. "It seems very positive. We want to make some more titles."

 i hope they do add some titles...if they gel they could win big titles. If not...

So it was like this:
Kveta/ALG win the opening service game, have some breakpoints to go up 2-0 but dont make it. Maintain a 100% first serve quote until 4-1
have GPs to go up 5-2 but instead lose 4 straight games with ALG double faulting three times in a row at 4-4 15-15.
Then break immediately back and hold for 6-5 and are having 2 setpoints.
at 3-4 in the tiebreaker ALG double faults. at 4-5 they get a mini break back. but end up losing the tiebreak 5-7 after 1hr and 2mins.

lets see if they have some energy left:help:

 a shame they lost...really good showing against a good team, but they should've won having 4-1 BP in the first then 2 SPs at 6-5, plus 4-2 BP in the 2nd...ALG needs to sort out her serve in the off season, it's good when it goes in but it's not going in enough. I think with the off season training together they could do quite well in Australia next year. And hopefully they choose to play Brisbane because I go everyday

ALG looks huge, specially beside Peschke

Quotes after the final:

"I always love playing here - last year I played with Julia actually, and we got to the finals, and a few years back I won the title," Groenefeld said. "So I always play well here and Kveta and I had a great week this week, too. We just started in Tokyo this year and so far it's been really great. We're going to play next year and for sure we'll try to play the WTA Championships at the end of the year."

"This year has been very difficult for me, splitting with Katarina and not having the titles I was used to having from last year," Peschke said. "But this is definitely positive and I feel like I'm on the way up again. Anna-Lena and I understand each other very well on and off court, so I'm looking forward to getting another nice experience and really trying to follow it for the next year."

wuuaaah I only saw the live scoreboard at 5-5 and at 9-8*

so that indeed was a choke, how many double faults in that tiebreaker and at what points committed by who if I may ask:scared:

anyway, the results they have had in their 4 tournaments show that the potential of ruling the doubles circuit is there. If they start to learn how to capitalize on leads and how to use their chances I expect at least one GS title!

There was only 1 DF in the TB at 5-2 by ALG. Other than that they just lost the points when they were up...

I agree though, they need to keep playing together so when they play a good team they can win the deciding points or the important points. That was the only thing missing from this 4 tournament run...hopefully a good off season of training (particularly for ALG to get fitter :p) and they will do well next year.

So I watched the match today...they played awful in the first set, particularly Kveta who missed about every single volley she hit. But then they held on a deciding point to start the 2nd and things changed...they played better. ALG screwed up the MTB a bit by making 2 BH errors but then she hit some big winners later on in it and hit a big BH to win it on the 1st MP. I took plenty of pics but no vids because its impossible to get vids on that court...tomorrow they are on a better court but at the same time as Lucie/Pavs doubles so I dunno what I'm gonna do :o I'll upload my pics now

I didnt really see the match because I was at the other doubles match, but i could see the court...and they swapped their returning sides from the first round so ALG was on the deuce side and Kveta the ad. And I could see they were both crushing winners and playing great doubles at the net...a complete turn around from round 1. Then they did a Q&A and autograph session so i got some pics from that. It was fun, they talked about their NYE, their teamwork and all that stuff.

Not the easiest, but they've shown they can beat Errani/Vinci so maybe they could have another good week there. But focus is on Brisbane final first :p

I'm extremely pissed they lost that final because they were the better team :o But they had absolutely no luck. In the TB Mirza had the luckiest shot ever and Mattek-Sands also had a really lucky won...and they could've won both those points and been up two mini breaks but instead they were down. In the 2nd set also they were really unlucky not to be up a break, another shank lob from Mattek-Sands won them the BP. So really they were so unlucky, I'm so annoyed. Anyway I'm uploading my pics

Another sloppy match...4-6 6-4 10-2. Good TB though...and a win is a win. Errani/Vinci again..interested to see if they can back up the win they had over them last week again. They had the right tactic so hopefully they can employ that again, because Errani and Vinci both have singles before it.

LightsOut!

They lost to Errani/Vinci...7-5 2-6 18-16. Had 3 MPs and that TB was intense but they just couldn't win it. They also lead 5-3 in the first

I just hope they will eventually convert all their damn chances they have from now on for fucks sake :help: :drink: at least no DF in the MTB.

Davodus
Jan 10th, 2013, 12:20 AM
ALG hit an ace on MP down  They kept losing the even points...like you said they need to start converting on all these chances. At least no match TB at the slams :sobbing:

I hate Lindstedt :o

Doubles draw isnt bad...that opener is tough because they are both good at doubles. R3 would be Kops-Jones/Spears and they could definitely beat them tbh. I'm hopeful of a good run

ALG/Kveta played Tanasugarn/Rosolska in a practice match today which they won 6-2 6-1. 1 game lasted at least 20 deuces, Tanasugarn was laughing on the ground how long it took

First set was close...Peschke totally controlled the play early on because ALG seemed a little nervous. They saved 3 BPs at 5-4 by 3 good ALG serves, then after they won the set they just totally dominated play...winners, huge returns and serves, all over the net. Too good, that set was very promising.

Thanks so much for all your reports and keep them coming:lick:

Did they finally decide on who plays the AD side? You mentioned in Brisbane they were swapping the sides? Who plays where now and do you think it works good that way? When Kveta played with Srebotnik she mostly took the AD side but when she played with Schiavone she took the Deuce side.

In their practice on Monday they swapped and did 1 each, in the match ALG played the AD side...it worked yesterday, Kveta was crushing FH returns cross court and down the line with ease, but I'm not sure...I might prefer it the other way. I think either works fine tbh, I think ALG is more comfortable on the AD side but I think she is just as good on the deuce side. We'll see in R2

Since ALG's team also withdrew from Mixed, I am pretty sure Anna is injured or whatever and that was the reason. But Davodus never mentioned any injury signs. It is such a shame since they have been working soo hard during the off season and finally started to click as a team with great results and a promising first round performance plus an open draw since a lot of other favourites lost first or second round:sad:

Davodus
Jan 19th, 2013, 07:24 AM
I dunno what happened...I went down to watch the match and saw it on the schedule they withdrew, so I walked around and saw Kveta hitting with Torsten and no ALG in sight so it must be her...no clue why. Like you say it's really awful because the draw was totally open even until the final...the bottom half was really empty and they were playing really well together. It sucks, and I hope ALG is okay....

I'm really happy to be able to go to play Fed-Cup next week! Thanks to everybody for helping me get ready this fast! My foot is feeling good and I'm really looking forward to have a great week with the team! On the other hand it is also sad to see Angie not being able to go! But I told her alreday that we're gonna give all we got and hopefully have her back for our next tie where she can help us to get back into World Group1!
