Andrea. :D Granted I've never seen Falconi play before but she's had some really good results in the past few months and I thought she might have caused an upset.

Yeah, me too. The bookmakers had Falconi as the favourite as well. I certainly didn't expect Andrea to come through this match and certainly not with the ease she did. Andrea's results this year, while not spectacular have really come as a pleasant surprise to me as she has played almost entirely on fairly slow outdoor hardcourts which have in the past been her worst surface. Basically I have always seen Andrea being more suited to fast indoor surfaces and grass and also since, like all Czechs, Andrea grew up on clay I would also have said she seemed to be more comfortable even on the clay than on hard in the past.

But wins over Yakimova, Craybas and Falconi all players ranked fairly closely to Andrea but all more comfortable on hard than Andrea has previously been, suggest Andrea is really improving on these hardcourts. Even competitive losses to Bammer, Razzano and especially Azarenka can be seen quite positively.

At the start of the year, I was quite concerned that with Andrea's new and improved ranking she might find herself out of her depth on the main tour, but this fear doesn't seem to be materialising. Indeed the more Andrea plays better higher ranked opponents the better she seems to be getting against them. Positive signs and I'm now feeling quite optimistic that Andrea should be able to at the very least hold on to her well earned top 100 ranking and maybe even improve it a little bit more. :)

She is not over-rated at all. She has had some very good results in her first year on the tour, including qualifying for two consecutive Slams and performing very well on the tough US challenger circuit. Those results alone are enough for people to notice her and appreciate the fact that she's come out of nowhere to the top 130 in less than a year. She'll never be a big time player, but kudos for the hard yards she has made since turning pro.

Anyway, she is hardly being touted as the next big thing so I don't know who is 'rating' her to begin with.

Falconi arrived the night before her match from Hammond, LA for the 25k. Due to torrential rain and a few tornado warnings/watchs, matches were delayed a lot. She retired down 5-2 in the 2nd to Brengle after another delay I believe so she could make it to IW and have any time to acclimate. Either way, Andrea crushed her, congrats!
