Again main topic in tennis (wta) in next 4 weeks will be who will take number one spot.

Indian Wells - projected ranking points

2010 IW points
Caro 9550 - 700 = 8850
Kim 8835 - 80 = 8755

Caro Kim
8850 8755

R1 5 8855 8760
R2 50 / /
R3 80 8930 8835

R4 140 8990 8895
QF 250 9100 9005
SF 450 9300 9205
F 700 9550 9455
T 1000 9850 9755

Clijsters needs to reach at least 4r and finish one round better (two if losing in 4r) than Wozniacki to regain the No.1 ranking.

Very much up for grabs. Kim might play Groth early, Caro might play MJMS
Kim had #1 for one week. Otherwise its been Caro since Beijing last fall.

Groth, Safarova, Kvitova all have weapons. Kim might have to play all 3

MJMS, Kleybanova and Azarenka are all dangerous, and Caro might play them.

I know she can't get to no.1 but how did Vera do here last year?

Vera is 2000 points behind Caro, so probably not.
#4 has 5086 points, Caro almost doubles that, 9550

In their careers Caro was #1 for 22 weeks, Kim for 20 weeks. Dinara was #1 for 26 weeks, so she's going to be passed this spring, because no one else but Caro or Kim will be #1 for a while. Next after Dinara is Amelie with 39 weeks at #1, next after her is Lindsay

Karolina The Great  will not lose her tops spot.

If this really does turn out to be the "main topic" over te next four weeks, then the WTA really is in a bad state.

The gaps after Caro & Kim are huge
Caro 9550
Kim- 8835
Vera 7565
Sam- 5086

Thats 4464 points, from #1 to #4

This current 'fight' over #1 spot is as exciting as watching paint dry.

What about Zvonareva's chances? Can she get the #1 spot if she wins both tournaments?

:lol:I wouldn't even call it like that...it's more like Kim seeing an opportunity to grab Nr.1 spot and just claiming it

I'm sorry, this is just crazy. Just because a player has "weapons" doesn't make them a threat to the elite . Safarova just lost to Dokic who Kim won 12 straight games against earlier in the year, Groth is not even close to challenging a top 5 player and Kvitova has not been heard from since Australia. Get a grip.

Kvitova won Paris beating Clijsters in the final. :secret:

I saw Azarenka win Stanford pretty easily. She can play when she's healthy.
Alisa also is very good when she's on. She beat Kim at IW last year.
MJMS is 3-0 against Caro.
That could be a tough draw. We'll find out.
Kim's quarter is loaded with good players.

Nobody has won these kind of tournaments except Caro & Kim for about 9 months.
But its not easy to do. Its been years since 2 players took all the big money titles for so long a period of time.

I posted this in a similar thread (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=429542&page=3) some days ago:

28/2, after Doha:

1. Caro 9550
2. Kim 8835
3. Vera 7565

With IW points off:

1. Caro 8850
2. Kim 8755
3. Vera 7425

With Miami points off:

1. Caro 8600
2. Kim 7755
3. Vera 7285

IW/Miami are the next two tournaments for all 3 women.

Vera cannot reach #1 after IW, but if she wins IW/Miami back to back she will overtake Kim and she could overtake Caro if Caro fails to reach one final or one SF + one QF.

Whoever does better at IW, Caro or Kim, then takes #1 position. If they lose in the same round Caro is still #1 after IW.
Winning IW/Miami back to back is likely enough for Kim to claim #1. But Caro can secure the #1 by reaching both finals or simply taking one of the titles.

If Kim really is this good, then why did she lose to Na in Sydney and Kvitova in Paris? She may still be the best player out there, but she ain't unbeatable. :wavey:

why she lost? because
1. she was already thinking about her first round match in melbourne against safina
2. she was tired after 5 consecutive weeks of tennis and travelling (not counting exo in thailand)

now she had some time to rest up, so hopefully she s ready for IW and miami

I hope Caro and Kim reach the Finale so they can battle for No. 1.

1. I think your argument here proves my point.
2. So was Kvitova. Clijsters had only played two more matches.

I think if Caroline can keep a 500-700 point lead after Miami she'll keep #1 until the hardcourt season where #1 will really be up for grabs. Kim didn't play on clay and Caroline didn't have many points aside from the FO. At the same time, Kim went a round further at Wimbledon. So as long as Caroline can keep a 500-700 point lead after Miami, she's going to keep it until the USO series where they both are defending the bulk of their points until the end of the year.

I think there is a good chance with the results Caroline has had on hardcourt (she's really only lost to Vera and Kim since the USO series) she'll probably be able to make a SF/F/WIN in both events. Unless Kim actually wins one of the events, I can't see her dipping into Caroline's lead.

I'd love Vera to be #1 too. Just because it would just add to the hate of Slamless #1 that Caro/Jelena/Safina have. I think Vera would almost be more hated because as of now she can't really even win anything above MM. She makes it to finals and loses.

Bepa's best shot for #1 will be at RG. She is defending nothing.

GrandMartha
Mar 9th, 2011, 11:21 AM
As much as I like Bepa I hope she won't be number one before she had a slam in her bag. Just image how her fragile head will explode under pressure and critism

Vera is about 2000 points behind Caroline, so Vera needs a lot of very strong results to make it a 3 way competition.
Caro & Kim, since Wimbledon, they're getting results on a higher level than the rest of the tour.

For how long can Caro or Kim streak continue, will they win both IW and Miami? Madrid? Rome? RG? Wimby? one year they take all big Tournys!? But may be more difficult in the clay Events...and when will Serena be back...

With Kim's injury, #1 stay with Caro.

Not the way I wanted her to keep it...
