JJ is so out of top ten after Miami

Why ? Even with Indian Wells points off she is still #7 and I think Azarenka is the only one who can pass her this week. She has almost nothing to defend in Miami so...
Players like Aga or Venus are in real danger to be out of top10 after IndianW/Miami, Jelena not really (if she can at least win a couple of matches of course ).

On the draw : on paper the bottom half seems much tougher (JJ's quarter :help:)but a lot can happen. It should be a good tournament.

I really don't think Kim is a shoe in for the title just yet. Her quarter of the draw looks quite dangerous if she runs into an opponent playing well. Some-one like Jarmilla Groth or Petkovic could cause her some serious trouble if they play well. Ivanovic and Bartoli are also ever dangerous.

To me, it looks like Vera and Sam have the easiest sections of the Draw. Caroline could run into Kleybanova which could be potentially disastourous. She could also face Pennetta in the fourth round, another opponent she could lose to.

C. W. Fields
Mar 8th, 2011, 08:59 AM
Caro should definitely make at least SF with this draw.
2R: Warm up
3R: Probably MJMS. Caro is 0-3 against her, but two of the losses were on clay and she was ill in the third match. If Caro's free from injury and sickness she should win comfortably.
R16: A match with Kleybanova would be a little unpredictable. They've never met on HC and AK beat Zvonareva in Dubai and took Clijsters to the brink in Sydney. But she'll probably lose in 3R against Pennetta whom Caro owns.
QF: Azarenka on a good day would be the toughest opponent, but she's 1-4 against top 30 players this year. Radwanska has been more stable lately but she doesn't have the power to really threaten Caro.
SF: Seeding says Li Na or Stosur. But Li Na is 0-2 since Melbourne, hard to know what to expect from her. Stosur hasn't really shown anything since winning her first two YEC matches. But both have beaten Caro in their recent matches and if one of them make it as far as SF she has likely played herself into shape and will be dangerous.

Kim's draw becomes pretty interesting after 3R.
R16: Bartoli/Petkovic/Safarova; all could play interesting matches but with Kim as favorite, naturally.
QF: Kvitova/Jankovic; both have beaten Kim before. Kvitova would probably be the most dangerous to Kim but one mustn't underestimate a resurging Jankovic, either. She's the defending champion after all.
SF: Zvonareva; in a non-GS HC this is close to a 50-50 match, especially with VZ just coming off a win in Doha.

Even if I hope it will be you-know-who, I voted for Zvonareva. She should at least reach the semis without TOO much hassle. And she will stand a decent to good chance against anybody in the semi (even Clijsters, if she makes it there). And in an eventual final, it will be very interesting to see if she really can keep her cool in a big final.

Well, she did win here two years ago and she is playing better now than she was then. If she makes the final she should have a good deal of confidence.

#1 seeds can get tough draws. Look at Henin's 2007 USO draw. The other half semi was Sveta-ACHAK.

Yeah, you're right, but I wrote that because of her less than stellar finals record in 2010. 1-5 was it? And that one win was Pattaya.

I'm just curious to see where she's at, regarding finals this year. If she takes this one, I will say it's a new Zvonareva. Providing it's against a top seed in that final, of course.

No one to upset Kim early, when she's rusty. She'll win this :rocker2:.

Honestly,I have nothing against Kim & Caro. However, I'm hoping someone other than Kim and Caroline wins IW this year. I'm hoping maybe Zvonareva, and for a longshot pick, perhaps Azarenka or even Sharapova, if they can rediscover their game. I think someone different needs to win this, to kinda spice things up in the WTA a little bit more.

Sharapova
The WTA need another champion then Wozzy or Clijsters.
It depends on Sharapova and other stars like Ivanovic, Jankovic, Safina and Venus, to safe the WTA and reload the competition like the 2004-2008 years..

:smash: #1 player is supposed to have the best draw. If #2 wants a better one than she should hope for better luck or just get a higher seeding.

You don't know anything. There is no difference between being no1 or 2 in terms of draw difficulty in tennis. They avoid each other till the final but that's it.There is no guarantee no1 seed won't get the tougher opponents. Even if no1 player had the easiest draw on paper -lowest seeds- it would still not make it definitely easy. No.8 could be on fire for example but on paper she would be easier than slumping no4.But there is no need to talk about this because like I said that rule doesn't exist in tennis. People always ask me 'then what's the point of being no1' whenever this draw discussion comes up.

Objectively speaking, Kim should be the fave and Caro 2nd fave. Would suit me just fine with a Caro Vs Kim final! :worship: Maybe Vera could surprise. At least I'll see her as 3rd fave. Outside those 3 winning the trophy *looks around* .. Neah, can't see any.

I guess this tournament could be an indication of whether Kvitova will make top 6-8 or not this year. She is an up-and-comer (yeah, I know #14!), and this could be her first step.
