Andrea's chair during the first break;that would COMPLETELY throw her raging hormones out of whack and result in an easy win for Marion:devil:

Because a certain rabid Chak fan on GM abuses Marion every time retires/is injured, and more than that too. For example, he made fun of her in Melbourne when she tore a muscle. For his favourite player to win the retirements list would be hilarious.

Last minute prediction: Petkovic is going to crush her...

But why? I recall you that in KL, she was sick during her match against Lucia. She even was sick the day before, and couldn't even attend the press conference.
As soon as she gets a loss against a lower ranked player, some of you seem to think that she's finished.

Marion is not finished, and I assume that if she feels a real bad slump in her game, she would retire very rapidly.

Last minute prediction: she could be a threat to Clijsters in R4.

You all forgot that she led in Brisbane before to fall down.

She knew exactly what she had to do in order to win the match.Well,I can understand why so many fans here had doubts, but many of those worries were based on the false presumption that Petkovic is some sort of stable, consistent player. The truth is that, despite her surprisingly-high intellect, she's as unstable as one of our Mexican telenovela relationships and horny as a cat in heat.Maybe her hormones will slow down when she hits her late 20s and allow her to focus more on tennis.....In the meantime,I'm glad that Marion took advantage of the opportunity to advance in a big tourney....Perhaps this win will be a springboard for something greater....As you hint at above,Marion is--as my Scottish gf 'Super M' used to say--mercurial

Kim about next match vs Marion :
"Today was tricky but the opposite kind of tricky to what's next. Marion hits the ball very fast and likes to play into the court. She also likes playing girls who play fast. I have to go for those lines and make her move. I can't let her go into the court and use those down-the-lines too much."

"...Il me faudra un gros pourcentage de premičre balles pour ne pas laisser Kim dicter les échanges."

Well it was surely not so easy to play an injured player but Marion needs to do something about her game and quickly. She is just not quick and consistent enough to play that percentage game. Hope she suffers a letdown after her win over JJ.Not trying to pump up her image or anything, but it usually takes a strong effort to beat Ana whenever she breaks out of a slump, however temporarily, with solid back-to-back matches.Marion can definitely do it yet,as you've indicated, she'll have to raise her level, most likely....Will be surprised if the dizzy Serb has sustained success,so this might be a case of wrong place, wrong time for Marion. Then again, maybe this is her lucky tourney in light of the injury to Kim(get well,KC:hug:).....VAMOS,MARION!!!:bounce:

Ana might not have played her best tennis but Marion had an excellent attitude to fight past her physical troubles and give Ana no rhythm. I also wonder how much her body language has influenced Ana. Marion was just so calm that Ana never managed to fire herself up.
Victory looked really unsure during the whole match. However, as the true champions do, she fought and played the right shot when it mattered.

It's great for her to be in the SF, but if she were to win the whole thing, because of the Kim retirement, it would put an asterix next to the title, kinda like when a LL wins a title, which just annoys me.

Mandatory Final!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo:Aye WILL go on record as saying that I'd prefer Caro in the final...and not just b/c it guarantees that one of my faves will win...and it's not just to torment the Ana fans who'd be stuck with a Marion-Caro final(their least desired option:devil:).I honestly believe that Marion at least has a decent shot at winning vs. Caro(that goes both ways,of course)....I remember the talk last year at Cincy that Big Masha wouldn't be such a challenging foe as she previously was(blah,blah,blah....).Well,she didn't play all that well...served like crap in long stretches...and STILL beat Marion in straights again.IF she's mentally up to the challenge, then a victory for Marion is attainable and I'll cheer for her to add that feather to her cap....I'll have my doubts, though,if it's M.S.

Does anyone know do the seedings for Miami come out after the next rankings update or after?

Iceland
Mar 18th, 2011, 09:52 PM
Well Marion's best asset this week is definitely her mental! Very impressive in that respect today. She began the match at 100% and never released her determination. She has been very opportunistic for once as she's in the final without playing particularly well.
Very sweet tournament, it should really put her on a high for a couple of weeks :).

I would still rate her Stanford performance over this week as she had a tougher road and was playing definitely better. But the mental strength Marion plays with this week do impress me a lot.

Who knows what can happen in the final when Marion is as focused and determination as she was today?

Ferg
Mar 18th, 2011, 09:55 PM
Oh I agree, her Stanford run was definitly better but in terms of points and money I meant this is pretty big! We looked at the prospect of her dropping out of the top 20 for the first time in 4-5 years last week, now we're looking at a top 10 unless Maria wins the title!

Lighter
Mar 18th, 2011, 09:56 PM
I also prefer Stanford run. But to defeat in a row Petkovic, Ivanovic and Wickmayer in straight sets is impressive.

She's also the only player who has defeated Peng in straight sets since beginning of the year. And Maria needed 3 sets to defeat Peng.

One of Caro's fans sent me a PM expressing admiration at how well Marion played and,as 'Ferg' hinted earlier, there's no stigma for Marion as if she lost to a player that she'd never beaten.

Also, the slow surface at IW has conditions that are roughly similar to how the ball bounces off clay...so let's see if that translates into a better clay-court season for Marion!:hearts:
