I just heard that Michael Joyce is working with a young girl named Jessie Pegula. Any info on her? Her father is billionaire Buffalo Sabres owner Terrance Pegula. Is she good or do you think hes just getting paid lots of money?

She recently turned 17 and so far she hasn't really done anything too impressive. Here's her WTA and ITF Juniors pages:

Her current WTA ranking is #557 and her current ITF Juniors ranking is #63. Those are also her peak rankings for both, so she does seem to be moving up at least, but she's still only the #9 American junior and there are 5 younger American juniors who are ranked higher than her, including the above-mentioned Madison Keys. So she's basically under-performing her peers at the moment.

eh..don't think so. She defeated Stephens and Min at the National last year. Of course, WTA and ITF is a different matter.

Kimberley Couts ( who is lovely ) is a bit of a challenger equivalent of a brick wall so if Pegula was able to beat her today 6-0 6-0 then she must have something.

She also beat Hendler, Larcher de Brito and Giorgi at one tournament:secret:

For those who say Keys isn't good, she won a MD WTA match at 14 a G1 junior title at 13... she's got the game. It might take a bit longer to develop since she's such a big hitter, but she only turned 16 last month and is really ahead of her peers.

But to Pegula, the girl is good. And she doesn't play nearly as much junior tennis as her peers, thus her lower ranking. She is really good on clay, reaching a GA final last year on clay and a 25k final as a qualifier this year on green clay. She has kind of gone under the radar if you ask me, but that may be good for her. I hope Joyce takes her game to a new level.

Pegula been doing really well. Got to quarterfinals and lost to Falconi 7 6 in the third in Indian Harbour. She had some great wins beat El Tabak and than Babos who was top junior last year. Maybe America does have some hope. Glad shes working with Joyce and not the usta!!!!!!

I saw her coach today and it definitely wasn't Michael Joyce. But perhaps he is just working with her part time.

I know a coach whos at the tournament. And she said Michael Joyce is there with her and she quaified again today. Plays Alexa Glatch tomorrow! I know these are only 50 k tournaments but have looked up her record last few months and shes won more matches than all US player combined.

I saw two of her matches at Kiwi last week--against El Tabakh and Falconi--and she has some serious talent. Unlike most of the hyped "future stars" of US tennis, she has power in spades and an impressive serve for a short girl. She has a pretty powerful, compact build and I would say she generates a lot of power from her legs. She reminds me me a bit of Tamira Paszek, only a bit more aggressive, and a better server. She hit a ton of winners--many with blistering pace--in the two matches I saw and while she needs to work on her fitness, there is time for that yet. I've seen Oudin play several times in person, saw Riske and Glatch at Kiwi, and Capra and Riske there as well, and while those girls have nice games, none of them have a "wow" factor that makes you think they can consistently compete against top players because they just don't have big weapons that would allow them to do that. Pegula, on the other hand, just might, with the right development. I'm not kidding about that. She has a lot of power.
