I found it really funny back in 2008 when they called Sam Stosur a veteran at age 24, but this?

Rising stars Milos Raonic, Kei Nishikori, Ryan Harrison, Bernard Tomic, Coco Vandeweghe, and Christina McHale were granted wildcards into the main draws for the BNP Paribas Open, to be held March 7-20, 2011 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, it was announced today by Steve Simon, tournament director. Veterans James Blake, Vania King, Jill Craybas and Sania Mirza were also given wildcards into the main draws.
.....
.....

In addition, veterans Vania King, who captured two Grand Slam doubles titles in 2010, (w/Shvedova) at Wimbledon and the US Open, and reached the semifinals at Strasbourg in singles; Jill Craybas, who reached the third round of the BNP Paribas Open and the quarterfinals of multiple Tour events in 2010; and Sania Mirza, a former top-30 ranked Indian star, also received wildcards into the main draw. There is one remaining women’s wildcard to be granted

From the BNP Paribas website

Vania is 21 (same age as rising star Nishikori) and Sania 24 :weirdo:

Yeah, she has been around for a while. 2006 she won her first title, that was 5 years ago.

Sounds weird. But she's already an experienced player.

Vania is actually 22, but it's still very strange seeing it written down. Feels like she's been about forever

I remember when she reached the second round of the US Open when she was 16 in 2005...she was a WC into the qualifying ranked in the 900s and made it through to the maindraw and beat Zakopalova in the first round. :o

She looks older though, definitely not 21.

Until recently, I had no idea Yung-Jan Chan was only 21. I thought she was mid-20s.

Vania King a veteran at 21
21?
Make that 22 years and 1 month exactly today!

Vania King is born February 3, 1989 - even though the ITF website still says she was born 03/03/1989.

I dont think that its the first time shes been called a veteran.
She is the girl who thinks she can sing right?

And Nishikori!! wow... he's 21? wasn't he the lone teenager in the ATP top 100 after the USO?

Sania isn't even a veteran yet, since she has missed so much time for injuries, etc. I remember when Jelena got mad during the USOpen series (in an interview) a couple year's ago when they called her a veteran, and she was 23 (I think) at the time.

I didn't realize Vania was that young. I feel like she's been around for a while. I'd like to see her start playing better in singles, while still playing awesome in doubles.

I think everyone thinks she is older cause she started so young on the pro-tour. On the other hand, we don't write professionnal articles and thus, don't have to check for information before posting....
