View Full Version : The score you did not expect ?

What was the final score you would've never ever expected to see ??
I would mention a few: ;)

1. Petrova def. Clijsters, 6:0,6:1 , AO 2010. 3rd round

2. Jankovic def. Dementieva, 0:6,6:1,6:0 , Moscow 2008. Semis

3. Wozniacki def. Bartoli, 6:1 6:1 , Doha 2011. Semis (after Marion was rumoured to have been playing her career tennis)

4. Ivanovic def. Sharapova, 6:1,6:2 , FO 2007. Semis

5. Jankovic def. V. Williams, 6:0,6:1 , Rome 2010. Quarters

(Remember, it's all about the weird scorelines  )

Off the top of my head (and it is very random), Amanda Coetzer's 99 Tokyo Quarter and Semi results:
QF Amanda Coetzer (http://www.wta96.com/wiki/lresults.php?spnr=165)(7) - Lindsay Davenport (http://www.wta96.com/wiki/lresults.php?spnr=168)(1) 2-6 6-4 6-3
SF Amanda Coetzer (http://www.wta96.com/wiki/lresults.php?spnr=165)(7) - Monica Seles (http://www.wta96.com/wiki/lresults.php?spnr=201)(4) 6-4 6-2

And Iva beating Hingis at RG was VERY unexpected, I don't think many people predicted that.

Guys, just to make it more clear, it's not about the player you've expected to see winning/losing, it's all about the scoreline. ;)

Schiavone def. Stosur 64,76 RG final :help: definitely wins for me at least in 2010

So many people got furious with Stosur. I mean she couldnt have defeated anyone bigger/better before only to lose to Schiavone in the final

Edit: I even remember forcing my mum by telephone to go and bet on the final for Stosur to win. I was so sure she was going to win that one I said I could bet my life on it :o Im happy words dont mean anything otherwise I wouldnt be here by now :( My mother didnt listen to me fortunately, she believed in Schiavone for some strange reason..

Pironkova bt Venus 6-2 6-3 at Wimbledon, 2010. Probably the most shameful scoreline of Venus's career, given the context.

The match I'm not thinking of never happened, and as a result there's no possible way I had such a huge crisis over it that I actually considered kicking my all-time favorite player to the curb.

But if she ever had played that badly I might have done that. I would have been that shocked, I think.

Didn't expect that scoreline from the first two sets.

S.Williams def. V.Dushevina 6-7(2) 7-6(5) 7-6(5), Madrid 2010
Wasn't expecting it to be that close.

Probably lots more, some have already been mentioned.

Boo hoo! Y'all set the table already. :( :ras:

Serena def. Sharapova 61 62 ( I thought Serena would win 64 75. This was as silent as I had ever been watching a match, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. After the match... :woohoo: I lost my damn mind! )

Jankovic def. Venus 60 61 (I expected a sloppy three setter like their other matches. Little did I know.... :o )

Davenport def. Sharapova 60 60 (The infamous double bagel. Baffling because I expected Lindsay to choke at any time, but she didn't. Shocked and delirious as shit at the time it happened though. )

Bartoli def. Henin 16 75 61 (Like many others, I thought Marion would be lucky to win 3 games. Little did we know.....)

Hingis def. Venus 61 61 (Venus was rusty than a mug, but still, I did not expect such a flat effort. Her badness is truly painful to watch. :o )

Venus def. Serena 57 61 60 (Another confounding performance. Serena absolutely self destructed here. I don't remember Venus doing anything particulary special to yield one game the last two sets. :tape: )

Mary Pierce's Hilton Head run in 2000. ( She rung every good/great clay court player in her path. :scared: )

Don't think anybody (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=357291) expected-

Even if Safina wins, it won't be 6-1 6-1 or anything one-sided. She is hitting way too many double faults.

I'm going to go with Nadia here, 7-6(2) 7-6(4).

Dinara is exhausted and Nadias on fire. I think Nadia in a tight 2 setter.

I really think Nadia takes this quite handily.

This one. Almost no one even gave Serena a chance to get to the finals, much less win that Australian Open, much less win it so convincingly.

Another was that crazy SF between Jankovic and Dementieva, 7-6 0-6 7-6. One of the strangest matches, and 3rd sets ever.
