BOGOTA, Colombia -- Soccer fans are crying fowl over kicking an owl. In fact, they're crying a lot worse.

Panama defender Luis Moreno is facing sanctions after he kicked an injured owl that landed on the field during a game Sunday when his Colombian club Deportivo Pereira was playing Atletico Junior.

The owl is a mascot for Atletico Junior and was being treated Monday at a veterinary clinic in Barranquilla. The bird is expected to recover from a slight fracture of its right leg.

The owl had landed injured near the corner of the field when Moreno walked over and kicked it about three yards. Atletico Junior fans shouted "murder, murder."

Moreno said he did not know the bird was a good-luck charm for the other team.

Unfortunately the owl didn't recover, but went in shock and died today.

He is a footballer. The majority of them are uneducated, spoilt, vain, arrogant pricks. He should be charged but probably wont. Makes me sick.

Even if you find what he did reprehensible, do you really have to wish him ill?

Even if he didn't knew owl is a lucky charm, why did he kicked her?

Really don't understand it.

A lot of people have very little empathy towards animals, especially in "macho" circles.

Someone should do the same to him when he will be lying on the ground once

Eh yes, he killed an animal for no reason. Least he desreves is a bad injury, so he can suffer a bit too.

Reading news like this just makes me sick. People have no sense of what's right anymore.

We can only hope someone breaks his leg badly for us.

OH. I was just going to say that he was just trying to pass the ball. Then another guy came up and kicked the owl. :tape:

It was pretty random cruelty, but not much worse than the time I stepped on a sea anemone cause they react strangely when stepped on. I guess sea anemones are less sentient and don't have anthropomorphic features.

So it's sad, but oh well. If I cared so much about animals, I would probably stop eating meat.

It was pretty random cruelty.

This is what is confounding me about animal cruelty recently, it's all so baseless. If this was a man-eating Owl, i would have empathy, but this is just mindless barbarity.

But then he is a footballer...

Wow what an awful thing to do to an innocent animal - Why don't we try giving him a good kick to the head while he's already down and hurt??

Few things upset me like seeing people senselessly harm others, be it humans or animals. I hope there are some serious repercussions for this kind of behaviour, I certainly have no tolerance for it.

Poor owl. He could have at least taken the owl and put it on the side of the field.

What an asshole. Unnecessary and completely barbaric. He'll get his.

This literally made me physically ill. Luis Moreno is a monster and his little "excuses" are ridiculous. I hope this brainless hulk gets a really hard foul or at least stomped in the face by some cleats.

The owl was so beautiful. People should always chant "murderer" when he steps out on to the pitch.

Apparently, he will have to pay the Owl's medical bill ad do some type of community service at the zoo, as if this fuckface needs to be near anymore animals. They are looking into more punitive actions. He deserves many more punishments.:fiery::fiery::fiery:

I thought of this as more of a lack of empathy rather than intentional cruelty. I think he just wanted to get the owl out of the field.

"I want to apologize to the fans," Moreno told reporters after the match. "I was not trying to hurt the owl. I did it (kicked) to see if it would fly."

He's kinda smart.

I'm glad he's been suspended and getting death threats. There's no way that asshole is "gutted about the owl's death." Those sickos always say they are sorry after people come after them. If he was not a cruel bastard to begin with, he would have never done this to the helpless animal.

What a shameless liar!! :o How was he not trying to hurt the owl by kicking it like a football? Not only that, he kicked it hard in anger. To me the lying is worse than the actual act itself. :fiery: I hope he gets his soon.

I heard on the news he's facing 3 months in jail? What are his chances of getting a human booster shot by some bulky guy named Conchita?
