Massive chokes from both players
Congrats Anne :worship: she is so underrated here. I think she could go back in the top 100 before the end of the year.

Great win for Anne :woohoo: :bigclap:

She could have had it easier though being up *4:1 and *5:4 30:0 in third set but somehow got nervous and let Kimiko back in the match. She is in good form and showed a promising performance here. Well deserved win!

I definitely give her more chances to get into top 100 this season than Mandy.

Kimiko

Cut down these unforced errors please.

bad season for KDK so far. and so many close matches!

Come on guys... Kimiko is not done ! Kremer played really well today, with the confidence of three matches won in qualifying. This year, Kimiko does not have to play qualies to enter tournaments, since her ranking is better, but the fact is she needs to play matches to adjust her game and play better. She played some really good shots but also committed stupid unforced errors at some key points and that explained her loss today, that's all !

In other words, we could say that she again got bad luck drawing the #1 seed of qualifying for her first round match... This was not an easy match to play and win.

bad season for KDK so far. and so many close matches!

Very disheartening. I think if it was me out there and not Kimiko, I would have thrown in the towel already. So I'm glad it's not me, as Kimiko is obviously made of sterner stuff.

Still 2011 is shaping up as a very challenging year for Kimiko on the tour. Age is more than a number. Yes, Kimiko has defied the aging process far longer than any other player in many generations but unfortunately the battle against the aging process is one that every athlete does eventually succumb to. What Kimiko achieved last year at 39/40 will only be harder this year at 40/41.

I don't know how much longer Kimiko has got. I love watching her play and will support her as long as she competes so for me the longer the better. But realistically Kimiko has 2 years at the best and very possibly less than that. I just hope things pick up for her in the win column.

Anne is a very resilient player and one who in her own right deserves a lot of respect for still competing so well on the tour but at this stage of Anne's career this was a match Kimiko was expected to win. The thing is, with all due respect to Anne, you aren't going to get too many maindraw WTA 1st round matches easier than this, maybe the one or two WC once in a while but not too many. If Kimiko can't win this one I do worry how long she can maintain a place on the main tour.

As for Anne, what can I say? When Anne returned to the game in 2009, aged 33, after a year out with injury, I really wondered if it was such a good idea. But now 2 years later Anne is closing in on the top 150 and a return to the top 100 no longer looks like a fanciful pipedream but a difficult yet still realistic goal. Huge credit to her. :yeah:

One nice thing: veteran players like Date-Krumm and Kremer tend to have better sportsmanship. After the match - even though it was so close - Kimiko and Anne shared a few nice moments talking together in front of the press - here's the wire service picture from their joint press conference:

Why does Date Krumm lose so many close matches? Seems like every match she plays she loses 7-5 or 7-6 in the 3rd.

Hopefully we are seeing the last of Anne.
She is in a group with Beygelzimer & Flipkens, who are the only 3 players I can't stand and avoid every match happily. :rolls:

Anne's had a nice career, she once was a top 20 player. It's only sad she wasn't ever able to come back after getting badly injured a couple of years ago.

Shame for Kimiko - but as it's her last year she's probably more worried about the Grand Slams.

Sad to see Kimiko lose yet another close match, but since I love Anne even more I can't be too heartbroken this time

Anne :hearts: So happy to see her get a WTA victory, I've been very impressed with her form to start 2011 :) It would really be something if she could make it all the way back into the top 100 after yet another major injury 'late' in her career

This...Not sure how anyone could actually *dislike* Anne  I've been following tennis for a long time, and I've been to many tournaments through the years, and I have to say that Anne has consistently been one of the very nicest, and classiest players I have ever met. I have never seen an ounce of poor sportsmanship on the court, and she has been exceptionally friendly to tennis fans off the court. :) Very few players I can think of who are on that same level in that regard.
