Imagine if they both had to face each other right now, playing in the form of their last tournament (Dubai for Ana and Fed Cup for Maria). Who would win?

Sharapova can barely get a second serve in, while Ivanovic has trouble getting any rhythm on her groundstrokes these days.

Their biggest win in terms of ranking this year
Ivanovic def. #97 Jill Craybas 4-6 6-1 7-5
Sharapova def. #38 Julia Goerges 4-6 6-4 6-4

Their biggest loss in terms of ranking this year
Ivanovic lt. #49 Ekaterina Makarova 3-6 6-4 10-8
Sharapova lt. #88 Greta Arn 6-2 7-5

Sharapova has the advantage in biggest win, while Ivanovic's worst loss is to a player ranked a lot higher than Sharapova's worst loss.

Maria . Her Fed Cup form is no indicator cause she was obviously ill:shrug:.

So judging them from their AO form Maria by a mile :yeah:

Basically it's to see how they'd match up when they are both playing lacklustre tennis, compared to when they played each other at their best.

Sharapova in 3.
Solid 1st set, great battle, both fighting for every point, but in the end-Maria wins it.
2nd set-Maria makes the 1st break, but Ivanovic fistpumps her way back into the match.
3rd set-Ivanovic-complete self destruction and meltdown.

Maria wins 7-5 4-6 6-2.

Are you serious, asking me why? First of all, Mashabators vs Ancitards is so 2007/08. Then both players are not even relevant ,nowadays, they are some Tier 2 players losing to scrubs all over the place. And creating another poll for Sharapova to win will do no good. :yeah: Its such a lame idea. Its practically a place where haters can laugh at both girls and stating what journeywoman they are.:tape:
P.S. I do not intend to be mean but seriously I know you are 15 (and blond) but please cut the crap and get over such useless things. :wavey:

I don't this can be a good criteria. Greta Arn defeated Goerges and Wickmayer on her way to win the championship in Auckland, and since I was at the stadium for the whole week of that tournament, and watched Arn's games against all these players, I can say that she was really on fire during the whole tournament and she would have defeated any other top 20 player there too.

There is really no comparison to be made at all between these two. I'd say Maria comfortably. Masha might not be mentally what she used to be, but god only knows what goes through baby Anci's head out there on a tennis court :tape:

Maria in 2 sets if she played the way she did against Gorges. I didn't know Ana's best win was against Jill this year—and it took her three sets to beat Jill... REALLY? :help:

I agree with that, Arn was playing really well. But that crtiteria indicates the lowest ranked player to have beaten Maria, and in her case it's Greta. Granted though, Arn played at least top 30 tennis that week.

Not easy to predict, but I think Maria in 3.

Break My Rapture
Feb 27th, 2011, 09:11 PM
I think it would definitely be 3 sets as well. They are both too inconsistent and low on confidence this year so far, I think a couple of good shots from either of them could decide a set since they both lack match practice and confidence. For some reason, whoever serves the best throughout the match would win IMO.

Hopefully they'll be ready for IW, which they both won.
Caro & Kim will be there. Vera & Li. Sam & Fran, Sveta & Jelena, Dani & Vika, Petra & Aga. A good field.
Here's a chance for either or both to get back in the mix.

Well, they both are (admittedly) looking to have more promise for this year than the past year. Considering that Ana had been somewhat injured for a little while now, and Maria just....let's put 2010 away....

Having said that, it probably would be a fantastical disaster. And those kinds of matches are hard to call. So I'm just saying Ana because I like her a little more than Maria. But, most likely Maria would sing (soprano shriek) her and buggy-whip forehand her off the court.

Feb 28th, 2011, 03:57 PM
Maria is obviously in some sort of slump right now, but she's never been as bad as Ivanovic.
Ivanovic hasn't been seriously injured and has been playing mostly bad tennis since her 2008 Roland Garros win. Maria has actually had patches of great wins, and she came back from a shoulder injury.

Hard to say though, this match could be a complete disaster or they could both bring out the best in each other. Fan or not, I still think Maria would have the edge right now.

Maria in 2, her best win is better and her worst lost came to a girl who won the tournment not losing a set after beating Maria. What did Makarova did after beating Ivanovic? Struggling to beat Petrova won against a Q
