I wish I knew. Cross Court Rally is asking the same for months now, and he´s one of her most loyal (not saying older  ) fans.

It certainly created mixed opinions. I didn´t know Ana was thinking of becoming a player. Maybe Rossana is involved in developing her daughter´s career?

seems she disappeared since that thread about her daughter

I'm quite sure that thread had nothing to do with the fact Rossana isn't playing anymore. She actually stopped 2 and half months prior to that thread, her last match being at the US Open qualifying.

Between that match and RG, Rossana had only two wins, and both of those against players ranked outside the top 500. At the time of the US Open Rossana was still ranked a respectable 122. Not bad, for a player only weeks from their 35th birthday but not good enough to get one a main draw entry into a slam. And with a very substantial amount of points to defend between the US Open and this years Australian Open, considering the form Rossana was in and her age that 122 ranking looked very likely to go down not up.

So with all that in mind, I'd guess Rossana probably decided quite sensibly now was the time to retire and she did it without any fanfare. Frankly I'd say she probably picked about the right time to go and I'd say the understated quiet manner in which she finished was typical of the classy professional way she carried out her career.

I would imagine she and her husband are probably now preparing there daughter for the junior circuit and hopefully she will have as successful a career as her mum did, possibly even more so.

:(
I had always dreaded the day we'd have to talk about a retirement thread but.................it seems likely now that's she's called it a career on the tour.
I still secretly hope that we'll get to see her play one last time (FO qualies, anyone?) but now I'm not so sure..........
I miss her most of all the players that went away without a sound...............but I think she would have wanted it that way too.......
Maybe Ben (Ranadalara) has some info? Ben, where are YOU??????!!!!! :)

I'll repost here what I wrote in her cheering thread:

Since the US Open she has been going back and forth from Asuncion to Miami, with her husband and daughter. She was in Paraguay from October last year to early February, then she stayed in Miami for a few weeks and now she's back in Paraguay again, helping other Paraguayan players and of course supporting her daughter start her junior career (she already played some junior tournaments in Asuncion in November/December and made a final of the U 14s).

Her husband Gustavo is the director of many Paraguayan Tennis Association Tournaments, such as the upcoming 31st Asuncion Bowl (Grade 1). I think Ana Paula will probably play there in the 14s, she's been training at the Yacht y Golf Club Paraguayo where the tournament is going to take place in 2 weeks.

I think like what you guys said, she's probably focusing now on preparing Ana for her junior tennis career, and maybe has moved on from her own career but doesn't want to announce a formal decision, as she has made many surprise comebacks in the past, most notably her one in 1999, 5 years after getting married and 2 years after having a baby.

Also her brother has moved from his academy in Florida that he established (where he coached USTA player Chichi Scholl for a while) to now coach at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy in New York as a professional coach.

So whilst we may not be seeing Rossana's name in the draws these days, she and her family are still definitely very much involved in tennis.

:) Sorry I missed it when you first posted it :)

It's not often you get to see the development of not only a single player's career, but an entire familial tradition :)

Until she formally announces a retirement, I'll keep my eyes peeled to see if she shows up in any draws, as I'm sure you all will too :)

It would be nice to create some sort of "highlights" package to showcase all her achievements....I think she deserves it :)
