View Full Version : Anyone else annoyed by Zvonareva's attitude while waiting for serve ?

I mean the little bounces, leaps, just like a rabbit. It must be so distracting for her opponent. I wonder whether she does it on purpose in order to force a double fault. Ivanovic's squeaking is nothing compared to this. It's borderline bad sportsmanship.

If they didn't do anything about it in Seles' time why do anything about it now. She was constantly moving about the place while waiting for serve I'm sure there were a few more but I remember her doing it the most.

I think it's fine. What-ever keeps her on her toes, it's not like she does it in tense moments on purpose, she does this day in, day out in every match, so I see nothing wrong with it.

It didn't annoy me with Seles, it was her way of focusing and it seemed natural and genuine. Especially because she was such a great returner.

I think it makes her more entertaining to watch.

No. In fact, I think her "bunny hops" are cute.

Then you're being hypocritical and judging the same action differently based on whether you like/dislike the player.

You know, you're absolutely right. Vera Zvonareva should just stand there flat-footed and be totally unprepared to return serve. That will DEFINITELY help her win more matches! :yeah:

Not that I'm aware of. She never defeated Serena. Anyway it just irks me. I can't think of any other top player doing that.

I think Kiri did this too(was it San Diego last year?), I was 'amused'

Lots of people do it. Last week they showed Scheepers dancing right in the corner of the baseline preparing to return. You couldn't hear her opponent bouncing the balls preparing to serve.

Marion Bartoli used to hop a lot as well.

Where does it say you cannot move while the opponent is serving?

i haven't really seen vera play but from the description i think jie does something similar; she bounces on both feet while moving forward when about to return serve

i think it's cute, and jie's isn't distracting at all

Yeah, in 2006, when Serena was ranked 139

Not particularly this move of hers, but her general attitude on court especially when she argues with the umpire.

What the hell is she meant to do , just put up with everything ,like too many from here do:confused:

So Sharapova and Daniela turning their backs on the server until the last possible moment is good sportsmanship? Vera pales in comparison to these two. Everybody has their routines.

No I didn't mean that she puts up with it, but anytime that she approaches the umpire, I get worried that she might climb up to the umpire's seat and kick him in the ball (if the umpire in Kader of course).

I think that umpires should be more apt to tell players to stop bouncing while waiting for serves as it should be deemed a distraction. btw this is my first post! :)

I'm not even sure that a lot of servers look at the other player. Aren't they pretty focused on their own serve?

I don't think it's a problem and Vera is hardly the only player that fidgets about while returning serve. I don't think there is any malicious intent, she is just trying to stay loose and ready to return.

I like when someone complains about something particular a player does, then someone brings up an example of another player that does the same thing but the person says "Oh, but when that player does it seems more genuine to me and they're just trying to focus". Right. Just admit you're annoyed by the player rather than the action, no big, everyone gets annoyed by players. Personally if I'm serving the returner can be doing somersaults on the spot for all I care.
