Good showing from Caro - 7 winners!

Some awful errors at the end, but winners were classes above Wozniacki's game.

Now back in bed again, Caro baby. No risk now for a 'zero' in the ranking and problems with optional Int.Tournament due to not playing in a committed Premier 700. All good :)

Sublime tennis from caro. Those returns were world-class, surprised at some of the serves she brought back.

Good serving also, and really solid off the ground. Best tennis i have seen from her so far this year.

Nadia... not patient enough.

I'm sorry, but from what I saw, this match sucked major ass!!! As talented as Petrova is, I can't believe she let Wozniacki just "push" her way to a victory. Other than a point or two, here and there, Caro wasn't even dominate. Nothing she did was really even impressive. Petrova gifted this match to Caro with all the errors and bad shot selection.

This match was one of the reasons why I feel Wozniacki is not close to being the TRUE No. 1 player, and it's one of the obvious reasons why the WTA is such a pathetic mess right now.

There are many words I would use to describe Wozniacki´s performance, but sublime is certainly NOT one of them. As for returns, Nadia´s first serve was quite off today.

Caro wasn't quite as fast as usual and didn't try to run down every ball as she usually does, either. Fortunately Caro at 90% strength was plenty enough to beat a very unstable Petrova who had a brief flare up from 1-0 to 1-2 second set but was otherwise far too inconsistent.
Caro didn't have to expend too much energy which is good. Now get back to bed and be 95% for Pennetta tomorrow.

You call 7 winners and 8 Unforced Errors sublime??? I'd find another term for that. That was anything but dominate.

Okok, 'Really good', 'almost great' :ras:

She did well today, its a good step in improving her game. Her strokes had some extra pace and she was actually hitting forehand winners. Some of the returns were definetly world-class quality, even Nadia was surprised at some of the returns coming back at her.

I see it the other way round, it's exactly these kind of matches that show that Caro belongs at the top. She barely had to do anything, saved her energy a la Federer, and won in straight sets against a tricky opponnent.

wozniacki is so constant she doesn't need to do anything special to beat the 90% of the other girls she only has to rally at 80% of her potential and wait the error from the opponent, we can't blame her, that tactic is effective, she isn't on court to entertain us, first of all she is on court to win and as long as she wins better for her, the problem is that the rest of the tour is a mess

A SF vs. Bartoli could actually be very interesting with Bartoli winning their last two matches. She's been flaky lately but when she's on fire she's very dangerous. And judging from Peer's description of their match this might be such a time.

But is it stupidity? It's really a fair question since I never saw a top5 player, let alone a no.1, getting coached so much during the matches. It's like she can't think on her own.

Jesus. Learn to read.
We are talking about should Piotr let her daughter sort out the match on her own without his words, cause in GS matches when she is in trouble she can't ask him for help.

If we are trolling, then you are definitely ass licking

Not necessarily stupidity; maybe it's a lack of confidence. Or it could be that it's like a security blanket, or a habit/superstition.

I'd like her to be able to call on him less, but whatever she's talking about with him seems to usually get the job done, so there's not much of an incentive for her to do things differently.

How exactly does it show that she belongs at the top? Granted, Caro didn't have to do much of anything or spend a lot of energy to beat Petrova, but comparing her to Federer is just crazy. Federer, unlike Caro, doesn't rely on defense to win, nor does he sit back and wait for his opponents to make a mistake. Petrova gifted this match to Wozniacki, and what little Caro did do, didn't impress me much.

For the most part, I think the only reason Wozniacki is even No. 1 right now is because the rest of the women's game is in total disarray with it's lack of inconsistency and focus, as well as the key players out with injury right now. If players like Azarenka, Sharapova and Kuznetsova were healthy and on top of their game, along with a healthy Venus and Serena.......no way on earth Caroline is No. 1. This is not to discredit what Caro's done, but it's the truth, plain and simple.

I dont know why people keep going on with this. Caro is #1.
It can only be Caro or Kim. Caro won the last Premier Mandatory, and the last 3 Premier 5's.
Kim is playing IW & Miami, so they'll both be there.
There's no one else with any claim to #1 now. These 2 with play it out in 2 of the WTA's biggest tournaments

Petrova hardly qualifies as an example of Wozniacki's prowess. Last time I checked Na Li still won that AO semi match and she was rallying just fine there, proving that even brainless bashers can beat this wall if they have a gameplan prepared.

How many players win a tournament and play the next week and actually don't crash out on the first round? How many players win as many matches as Caroline?
My comparison with Federer is based on the fact, that she cruises through the first couples of rounds fairly often and with ease. I'm not talking about game styles or whatever.

You may believe she doesn't belong at the top, but to me right now, Caroline and Kim are in a different league and are rightfully number 1 and 2.
