View Full Version : Sisters' American spring [Indian Wells and Key Biscaine thread]

Both sisters will play in MD of WTA Mandatory events in Indian Wells and Miami. Ula will use 2 of her last 3 Special Ranking entries. She will be left with only one. I hope she can play Nassau 100k+H challenger in the 2nd week of Indian Wells (if she doesn't reach the 2nd week of course  :p)

Agnieszka has many points to defend in both tournaments. Luckily she'll have almost nothing big to defend after Miami (except Wimbledon 4R and San Diego final).

Good luck!

Why do they not play doubles together on the pro tour more often? I remember them doing so at a grand slam and getting to the Quarters I believe, but it's weird to me that they've never really done it more often.

Their father told they would play some doubles together soon due to upcoming Olympic Games. :)

Aga and Ula are in the same section in IW

(9)Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) v Bye
Varvara Lepchenko (USA) v Iveta Benesova (CZE)
Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) v Qualifier
(24)Maria Kirilenko (RUS) v Bye

(31)Klara Zakopalova (CZE) v Bye
Urszula Radwanska (POL) v Bojana Jovanovski (SRB)
Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) v Qualifier
(8)Victoria Azarenka (BLR) v Bye

Caro in the QF. With this draw I think QF would be very good for Agnieszka.
And of course Ula vs Bojana :spit:

Hmm..lets see.

Both played really well. Bojana was forcing many errors in the first set. A lot of Ula talking to herself and dad and a lot of yelling. Only slammed racket twice. She made many drop shots and running shots. There was a foot fault called that she got sooooo angry at. Dad also got so mad and was asking questions.

Also when she was up like 5-2 in tie break, she missed the easiest shot..she was 5 inches from the net and the ball was really high and missed it in the net  There was a time in the 3rd set when she was looking at dad making gestures like it was difficult to breathe. And a lot of smiles on errors.

Agniela match was good..Peng was good at the net and Peer was terrible on serve with so many dfs. Aga made many good plays running down balls and always returned on deuce points. She missed very few returns :) Dani had good ground strokes..but was not really good at net.

As usual Aga was the best on the court :hearts:

U Radwanska (POL) d B Jovanovski (SRB) 36 64 76(6)

Definitely the match of the day, this being the 1st match, the day was a kinda anticlimax after this :tape:

I think Bojana played even better than the Malaysia match :o Just continuously
attacked both corners, and return was really sharp too. Very impressed.
So I of course rooted for the underdog Ula lol. And she fought hard.

Huge defensive effort returning those sharp drives. Screamed, gestured to the coach
that she just had to punt an easy overhead because of the sun, etc lol.

In the 3rd Bojana just couldn't make the 1st serves, and Ula kinda attacked Bojana's 2nd. And what's more, Ula just couldn't nail decisive pts to win it :haha: I think she had 2 mp in the 3rd 5-4 or something lol. But I wouldn't call it a choke, Bojana
was just THAT good (well Ula did miss some easy putaways :tape: )...Anyway Ula later on played more confidently, evidently read Bojana's shots (her shots WERE sharp but it was fairly predictable, methink, since it was almost always left to right, right to left lol)..
Had to sacrifice almost an entire 1st set of the following doubles to watch this match, although I was sitting on court 4 (doubles match) :tape: (have to thank the organizers for this, I could watch both matches simultaneously :worship:)

"I missed being on the tour during last year but I was with my sister at a few tournaments so I was still in touch with everyone," Urszula said. "I was a little bit sad watching all the girls playing while I couldn't. But I have been practicing hard and believed I could do well here. These two matches have been tough. I was very happy to beat Bojana because I lost to her in my last two events."

Don't remember much because I was too busy taking pics and this Polish guy was trying to see every picture I took

But I remember Ula was not playing as good as she did against Bojana and was not serving very well..but opponent was much worse.

And for Aga's, it never looked like she would lose even though opponent served for the first set. Very nice movement cause ue's. And she got broken in the 2nd set I think with a second serve & volley

Agniela win today was very impressive..Aga was very good at the net..except for one or two misses, and very nice points. Crowd was very impressed..but who isnt

In the locker room I noticed Agneiska Radwanska icing a solid black, grapefruit sized, bruise on her hip. I asked her what the heck happened and she said she got it diving for a ball. OK! Sacrificing the body for a win. … I like the intensity. I asked her if she at least won the point because if so I wanna see the replay on SportsCenter. She said no … she got it diving for a ball in her photo shoot. Wow! That's some dedication. I might've hired a stunt double for that one.

After watching the doubles headed to court 3 thinking the score would be like 3-2 or
something.
Aga was leading 5-0 :o
Kiri was just rallying against Aga, you're not going to win the match like that, Aga can school you...and she indeed did, dropshotting and sending the ball all over the court.
From the 2nd Kiri played more aggressively, coming up to the net and also going for the shots more, and it paid off. Began to control the rallies.
The 3rd set was literally a break-fest lol. Both their serves couldn't hurt each other much, I guess. But Aga later on went for her shots and it proved effective.
Also she was more consistent.
After the match I thought they would kiss each other, having been a doubles partner, but they didn't lol.

No, I have been a fan of Aga ever since she beat Kuznetsova at Wimbledon in 2008, where I watched her fight back and show some amazing and clever shot making in order to win the match. I have followed her and her results ever since, and to be honest the only top players (when I say that she never wins a match comfortably, I mean important matches, career defining matches, not the 1st or 2nd rounds of GS where you know that she is going to have a comfortable score line.)Whenever she plays players that are close to her ranking besides Bartoli and RIP Dementieva, she never has a comfortable win. Ever. I love Aga and I know that she is capable of so much more in her game and every time I watch one of her matches, she plays brilliance and then you expect her to excel and win, yet she some how goes through patches of awful play which makes you wonder why you are ever a fan of her at all. Her career I think will truly be amazing once she finally decides to add to her team to help develop her gae where she can become a threat on the tour once again.

In a way I agree. I am not sure if she needs to add to the team, but she has to recognize and acknowledge her weaknesses and then work on them or tactics to neutralize them. Perhaps her dad could do that, but being a father he can't make a child do something that she doesn't want to because she "knows better".

Well, for me it's obvious that Aga lacks motivation when she plays Schiavone, because I think she doesn't know exactly how to play against her. Francesca has already beaten her four times, and the last three times it was in straight sets. Aga won only one set in four matches against her, 6-2 five years ago...

Aga beating Francesca was only a matter of time. Maybe it wasn't perfect match of Agnieszka, but near perfect match against Schiavone. Finally our player coped with top spins and thanks to this aggressive play was possible. If we add solid play with low number of UEs and brilliant tactics executed almost all match, we can't have any doubt who dominated the match. Schiavone's bad day only made it so one-sided.

About one year ago I was saying Schiavone is the worst possible opponent for Aga, even worse than Williams. Yesterday's win shows everyone is beatable. That's why no draw is bad. It's Aga who must JUST play well and beat them all. ;)

These stats say Aga played terrible and her opponent quite well. But it's misleading. The difference was small. Aga played good match in such conditions (she was struggling more with wind), but she didn't add something special which would lead her to the SF. Or a bit more luck was needed.

I hope Aga learn one day from Zwonariowa how to hit lines. :p

Congrats for Miami title, Aga/Daniela! :hearts::worship:

MIAMI, FL, USA - In just their fourth tournament together Daniela Hantuchova and Agnieszka Radwanska won one of the biggest WTA titles out there.

A prelude to their success in Miami came in Indian Wells, where they made it all the way to the semifinals, falling to Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina, who went on to win that title. They got revenge in the second round here, 64 63.

Facing No.3 seeds Liezel Huber and Nadia Petrova in Sunday afternoon's final, Hantuchova and Radwanska had to fight back from an early 4-2 deficit - as well as 4-2 down in the tie-break - to take the first set, then after a lopsided second set loss rebounded in the third, eventually winning, 76(5) 26 108.

"Liezel and Nadia are both very good players and gave us a tough match," Radwanska said. "We played well on the important points today."

"We tried to not think too much about who we were playing," Hantuchova said. "We just tried to focus on what we were doing and it paid off. We stuck to our game, which was being aggressive. It was close but we just kept fighting."

Hantuchova won her ninth WTA doubles title, and first since 2006. "It was a great two weeks. We had so much fun on and off the court. Aga is a great girl and we are great friends. That's part of why we play so well together."

Radwanska took home her second WTA doubles title, her first coming back in 2007. "Daniela is a great doubles partner. These two weeks we played some really good tennis and that's how we were able to win this title."

Finally doubles title #2 - and Aga`s biggest of course. :yeah:
