Harlow to Face Hernich in First Round

http://the-slice.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/76d6f5731c0a8cfe2d0b27507cc49ad3-getty-tennis-open-aus.jpg

DOHA, QATAR- Bianka Harlow hopes to sustain her success in the Middle East this week at the Qatar Ladies Open but there is one big obstacle standing in her way, American teen sensation, doubles partner, and friend, Destiny Hernich. Harlow is scheduled to meet Hernich in the first round of the Open on Wednesday. The two, who normally practice together, were seen practicing on two different practice courts this afternoon. "It has nothing to do with our personal lives", Bianka commented. "I really love Destiny to death and hate that I have to play her in the face round but it's all professional and friendly between us."

http://assets.usta.com/assets/1/getty/GalleryMainDimensionId/GYI0063045950.jpg

The two ladies have played before, Destiny owning the series 3-0. The two met in the first round on Estoril and Eastbourne where Bianka lost both in a third set tiebreaker so this match is bound to go the distance. They also met in the finals of Luxembourg where Hernich prevailed in two tiebreaker sets. Destiny is one of the few players that Bianka has such a lopsided record so Harlow is determined to win a match against her doubles partner.

When asked about Destiny possible retirement, Bianka commented, "Nothing in set in stone. It would truly be a shame is Destiny left the game but I respect her enough as her friend to understand her decision."

Harlow Into Quarters in Doha

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GWJatwb-WlI/SRCn06QW8DI/AAAAAAAAGjY/Gt_2WK-g0lg/s400/ivanovic+doha+%284%29.jpg

Bianka Harlow moved into the quarterfinals in Doha on Thursday after defeating longtime nemesis Yelena Pirilenko in three sets. Pirilenko came into the match hitting winner after winner against Harlow but Bianka pushed back in the second set going on to win 4 straight games including the 2nd set tiebreaker. Yelena made a last minute effort to come back winning 3 games in a row but Bianka held off Pirilenko before the two could play a third set tiebreaker.

In the quarters, Bianka will play Athea Kane, a tough opponent Bianka has already played once this month in Paris where Athea was victorious in 3 sets. We caught up with Bianka at her press conference following her win.

"Yelena was kicking my butt in the first set. She was striking the ball so cleanly that I couldn't seem to even get a break point. It wasn't until halfway through the 2nd set when I really became focus and started hitting the ball confidently. Athea and I had played already this month and she is very strong player with a killer game. She is always one of those people who you don't really want to be in their quarter in a tournament but I do believe that I have been playing well and a lot of tennis in the last two weeks. I feel as though after facing Athea a couple of weeks ago that I am still familiar with her game. I am just going to go into the match with confidence and hope that I come out on top."

Singles Results, Quarterfinals

[6]Nthamangela Mbangu def. [1]Ziyi Zianzhi 0/6, 7/5, 6/3
This is becoming the premier match-up of 2011 -- we think this is the 4th(?) time they've played this year. This time, Nthama avenges her loss in the Australian final to move on and Ziyi was not happy with herself after this loss.

Pamela Bowden def. Fleri Hingisafrilia 7/5, 6/3
Pam has really started to gel on the court this year and gets a strong win against Fleri, who is slowly coming back to her old form.

Jennifer Casanova def. Jookarae Mensarb 6/3, 2/6, 7/5
Jennifer made the finals last week in Memphis and has done well recovering in Doha and gets a nice win against Jook.

[7]Athea Kane def. Bianka Harlow 6/1, 7/6(6)
A tight second set saw the match go to Athea - had it been Bianka, the momentum woul dhave surely been with her.

Doubles Results, Quarterfinals

[5]Mbangu/Jovanovic def. [1]Cornetsson/Johnson 7/6(1), 3/6, 7/6(2)
Harper and Siri have fallen flat since Melbourne, but Nthama is having a great event and her partnership with Sanja is finally paying off.

Graf/Huubere def. [4]Pirilenko/Soren 7/6(4), 3/6, 6/2
Marteena and Sabine seemed to have gotten some good action going on as they defeat the seeded team.

[3]Casanova/Taliamanosoko def. Mensarb/Young 6/3, 7/6(0)
Jennifer and Ruflna defeated the Thai sensations, but can they overcome their semifinal hump?

[2]Bailly/Wachiramanowong def. Bowden/Kirilova 7/6(4), 6/3
When was the last time Kirilova lost in doubles? We can't remember!

[7]Athea Kane def. Jennifer Casanova 6/4, 6/3

And i was thinking yesterday how Jen is one of the player i don't mind losing against.

Now i know why.
Even when she defeated me, i won the tournament. :tape:

But i've made some lil change this week so not sure the result should be a bit different.

Anyway, good luck Jen! Let's put on a show. RG champs clash.

 You're so nice Athea, I also like playing/losing against you  I mean, I beat you once and that's okay^^

Good luck in the finals, I hope you'll raise the trophy

Go Ruffy and Jen in the doubles final, we really need another title this season :kiss:

Singles Results, Finals

[6]Nthamangela Mbangu def. [7]Athea Kane 1/6, 7/5, 6/3
Another match where Nthama had to fight from behind and she did it against her friend, fellow Afrobabe and former #1. Both players are securing their spots in the top 10 with such consistency and Nthama could be a threat to the top three very soon.

Doubles Results, Finals

[3]Casanova/Taliamanosoko def. [5]Mbangu/Jovanovic 6/4, 6/3
Ruflina asked Athea to tire out Nthama in singles and it looks like she did her job. Jennifer and Ruflina rolled over Nthama and Sanja in the final to capture their second title of 2011.
