The Grand Slam SF win is wrong, it should be 450. It's always been given as 450 and it's just a typo. Will correct as soon as I'm bothered.

The scale is here (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=401259) - basically it's the WTA scale halved. (I've also changed a challenger final from 50 to 55, because on WTA it's worth 110 and the final 150)

16. No mandatory tournaments.

according to wtatour website

The WTA rankings are based on a 52-week, cumulative system. A player's ranking is determined by her results
at a maximum of 16 tournaments for singles and 11 for doubles.
The tournaments that count towards a player's ranking are those that yield the highest ranking points during
the rolling 52-week period. They must include points from the Grand Slams, Premier Mandatory tournaments
and the WTA Championships. For Top 20 players, their best two results at Premier 5 tournaments (Dubai, Rome,
Cincinnati, Montreal/Toronto and Tokyo) will also count.

After four straight losses, Ziyi reaches the SF in Barcelona and, given she defends few points in May, should remain world #1 at least until Wimbledon. She also goes #2 in the race, where Mbangu has a slim lead and Wong displaces Cebolla from the Istanbul qualifiers. In the doubles race, another title for Casanova/Taliamanosoko puts them a mere 6 points behind Cornetsson/Johnson, and Casanova goes up to #12 individually.

A change in the top 10, as mentioned; Madrid winner Jennifer ollows up with a solid QF effort in Roma to demote Giusa. Fleri, up 5 spots, and Candela, up 12, are naturally the week's big movers, but Sabine also advances 4 places with a QF.

In the race, Ntha opens up some space to Ruffy, and Pamela goes to #6. Ntha also gets some much needed points in doubles to go back to #8, possibly temporarily as some huge points are needed in Brussel.

Naturally, things change a lot after a Slam.

Pamela Bowden advances ten places, enters the top ten, and has less than 200 points to defend in the second half of the year - she's the big story.

As the lower half of the top ten failed to get on the board, Saba Abid also advances, to 7th. Nthama defends her #2 ranking and Luna takes #4, so despite Athea's fall 3 of the top 4 are from Africa. I'm fairly sure Ziyi's lead of 1630 points is the largest ever under this ranking system, and it will take a warm-up final + a title to displace her before Wimbledon. There is now a 'top-12' closing off with RG finalist Harper; the following four have some work to do to defend their seed status at the big events.

Ziyi's position in the race is more precarious, as only a GS semi-final win separates the top two. Pamela defended her form and is now second, while the other big race gainers are Harper, naturally, Brenda Gaga-Maduga, who debuts at #37, and Annalisa Benedetti, who was top thirty going into March, suffered R1 exits in 6 of 7 non-ITFs, but carried her form from New Delhi to a quarter-final and #26 in the race,.

In the doubles, Ruffy has an equally sizeable lead, and only defends R1 from Wimbledon 2010 so who knows how huge it could be. Wojnarowska and Wickmayer, naturally, leap 20 spots, and with Casanova/Taliamanosoko hogging all the points the race for the other spots in Istanbul is wide open.

Harper REALLY needed a good French and was lucky to get it. That'll give her a little more breathing room once the hardcourt season starts. Until then, however, she doesn't have many points to defend on grass and could make up even more ground and maybe even get back into the middle of the top 10! But, for right now, #12 is a great place to be. :)

Bit less moving about this week; as mentioned in another week Harper Johnson enters the top 10, and RG champion Pamela advances another spot to #9 despite a R1 exit. The inactive Sylvie is the one who falls out of the top 10. Ruffy passes Nthama for #2 far behind Ziyi.

In the race, Jane Wong is back in the top eight, while in the doubles Em's title advances her to 7th ahead of her Wimbledon title defence. Ella also pushes Nthama out of the top 10 again.

With the singles winners having low positions both in the race and rank, Daria Afanasyeva's return to winning form is the only thing that mixes up the top - she is eighth in the race.

Ruffy loses an Eastbourne semi-final and thus falls one spot to third in the singles ranking.

In the doubles, Eastbourne winners Wong/Zianzhi pass Chan/Vladimirescu for third in the race.

So, after Wimbledon then...

* Pamela Bowden, the European summer champion and the first player to win successive majors in singles, advances to #1 in the race and #2 in the rankings. She cuts Ziyi's lead to barely 600 points as the #1 exited in the second round, and leads by more than 600 points in the race to year-end #1.

* The three other semifinalists at Wimbledon were unseeded, and all made giant leaps; Vittoria Pérez enters the world top 16 and pushes Daria Afanasyeva out of the Istanbul finals, though behind the race to the last three spots is still open. Jookarae Mensarb and Cristina-Elena Vladimirescu are #20 and #23 respectively, but only around 100 points behind Pérez. Vladimirescu, the finalist, now has nearly half her points from this tournament. Conversely, last year's winner Martine Kartincova crashed 26 spots and out of automatic qualification for Premier tournaments, and Jane Wong also fell out of the top 10.

* In the doubles, Siri Cornetsson and Harper Johnson reached the final to eclipse the new queens Casanova/Taliamanosoko; Giuseppina Benedetti also made a doubles breakthrough with the Slam title, reaching #12, only one spot behind her singles ranking. Lindsay Raymond remains #18 with some fewer tournaments than Benedetti.

Not much happens after internationals, but Siri is back to #8 in singles after her win on home soil; she has a couple of good performances (SF US Open, F Doha) to defend, though, so could peak again soonish. Torres and Chan, the Budapest finalists, both enter the top 50 - Torres returns after a two-month absence, while Chan gets in for the first time.

Giusa, as mentioned elsewhere, enters the top 10 in singles again with a home win, but defends 885 points during the next 6 weeks, which could potentially see her fall into the hot mess that is the 13-30 section. Also, Vladimirescu's singles final puts her in a qualifying position for Istanbul.

After the first US swing tournaments

Harper won Stanford and thus advances to #6 in the world, passing defending champion Saba (who crashes to #12), Luna (who defends a title in San Diego) and doubles partner Siri. This is Harper's best ranking this year. Tami and Alijah don't gain many ranking positions despite excellent weeks. Jook crashes eight spots after failing to defend a finalist appearance from last year.

In the race to Istanbul singles, Daria knocks Cristina-Elena out with a SF performance in Stanford.

And of course, this is 1st August, and it's Stanford that has been added and removed. Sorry for any confusion.

The top 5 doubles pairs are qualified among the top 6 for Istanbul (CASANOVA/TALIAMANOSOKO; CORNETSSON/JOHNSON; WONG/ZIANZHI; FELIVITCH/MÉSANE; GRAF/HUUBERE). Five teams are fighting for the last spot.

Only 1 loss in Tokyo/Beijing (the Tokyo final) and the top two pairs won practically everything else.

After 17th October. Not that much happens due to few points on offer, but Sabine falls four places despite an SF appearance, while Athea goes up to 16.

Race combinations will be posted in the week threads soon-ish.

Ah drat. Forgot the challenger. :o

I'll add it but won't update the PDFs unless you really want me to. :p 52-week rank: Banaszek 57th, Day 66th, Rurikovich 80th.
Race: Banaszek 55th, Day 61st, Rurikovich 78th.

Doubles rank: C. Smith 21st (+25points), Day 64th.

Thanks for the rankings :D I just noticed that you gave Jennifer 1 point in the race whereas she gained 35 points in the normal singles rankings ;)

And looking at the doubles race, I think the Top 6 Teams are already qualified, aren't they?

Ah, merely a copy-paste fail. (I do this too often...there has to be an easier way. Maybe put a formula to read from that part of the sheet...)

As for the doubles teams; 260 points up for grabs in Moscow, so McKrain/Skankhova aren't safe. Only 6 teams qualify.

Sam,

When you get time, could you check Giusa's numbers in the race? Last week she was at 1440 or 1445 and she made the semifinals. It says that she only added 70, and is showing her new points as 1470 (which if she added 70 it should be higher?). Also it now says she hasn't won an international...which she has.

thanks!:p:)

The first bit: only 16 best count towards the race. As the 16th result of Giusa was 35 points, 65 for a semi improves it from 1440 to 1470.

The second is another copy-paste fail. Given all the chaos I should probably edit the bloody thing and get the corrected ones in.
