Was just thinking yesterday that she is due to have a tough draw soon. Some of the other sections look so much easier. Maybe she is in top form and can get a win, well we can all hope.

Tough to play against Dabi who just won WTA title. But I believe she is pretty tired ..

Being a nonseed in Premiers, Anna is going to have tough draws every tournament.
I think Anna & Vesnina should be in Memphis

Being a nonseed in Premiers, Anna is going to have tough draws every tournament.
I think Anna & Vesnina should be in Memphis

i agree but if she had one good run in one of these Premiers, it will be much better for her.who knows anyway what will happen. She may find some form/luck.

Feb 13th, 2011, 09:54 PM
When the draw is Dani, Caro, Petra, Li, and they all seem in good form, I dont know how much luck will help.
They spread the seeds out, so nonseeds cant avoid them.
Vesnina has Zvonareva in round 2.

Feb 13th, 2011, 11:21 PM
i literally have NO i dea as to what to expect.
Dani's usually a good matchup for Anna, but i now have to consider what both Dani's impressive current form and possible exhaustion will play into this.

Feb 13th, 2011, 11:25 PM
Yeah it's a risky move to go for these higher tier tournaments. If she gets a couple of wins the payoff is good but she could crash and burn in each one and end up with nothing. In the lower tiers she would hopefully string together a few wins and get some momentum going. But to be honest I don't know what the best strategy is. Anna is so different from one week to the next, I couldn't begin to predict how she'll do.

She might get lucky and play a tired and jet-lagged Hantuchova and that's 70 points in the bag.

Wonder what plan Cristian comes up with for Caroline. Anna really has to be near perfect to beat her because she doesnt play well against boring opponents. If she is really sick should she try not to spend too much energy and save it for the next tournament? Im surprised she won because she was really short of breath after 40 mins and she hit 17 ues in the 2nd set.

Chakvetadze Sets Up Wozniacki Clash

DUBAI, UAE - Caroline Wozniacki's path to regain No.1 will open with Anna Chakvetadze, after the Russian beat Daniela Hantuchova in the first round.

In a battle between former Top 5 players, Chakvetadze was sharper on the day, completing a 61 63 win over Hantuchova, although the match was far tougher than the scoreline indicates - it lasted an hour and 31 minutes. Chakvetadze has now beaten Hantuchova four times in a row and was happy with her play.

"I guess Daniela just came from Asia and didn't have enough time to adapt to the jet lag and everything," Chakvetadze said. "I was trying my best today. I actually thought I wouldn't have a lot of chances to win, but it's a very big tournament and I really wanted to, so I was trying my best and it was working."

"I'm disappointed about today, but I'm still so happy about last week," said Hantuchova, who defeated Vera Zvonareva en route to the title in Pattaya. "Probably the positive emotions are much more important right now. I just need to rest a few days and try to get my energy back, and then get ready for Doha."

Wozniacki, ranked No.2 in the world and needing to reach the semifinals here to regain No.1, received a first round bye and will open her tournament against Chakvetadze. The Russian, who turns 24 next month, has been as high as No.5 in the world and although she is 0-3 against Wozniacki, she has pushed the Dane to three sets every time, two of them going to 6-4 in the third.

After reaching the Top 5 in 2007 Chakvetadze had a rough few years, but in the second half of 2010 showed glimpses of her former self, particularly during a summer stretch in which she won 10 straight matches on hardcourts (ending up losing to Wozniacki in three sets in the Copenhagen semifinals).

"I'm pretty confident," Chakvetadze said of her form. "I think I'm going in the right direction. At least now I feel I'm playing tennis. A year ago it was something different. I don't want to expect too much, I just want to enjoy practicing, then enjoy the matches and try to win. I don't want to put pressure on myself. It's the beginning of a new career for me. I don't think about three years ago. Of course it gave me some experience, but it will also put more pressure on me."

Wozniacki leads Chakvetadze in their head-to-head series, 3-0.

Looking forward to R2 vs Caroline. But why so early?:(

Feb 16th, 2011, 05:29 PM
Sounds a bit scary with Anna collapsing on court. Obviously it must be devastating for her to have to bow out of a tournament in this manner. I expect she would probably lose perspective in this situation and maybe her coach should have told her to stop?

It was impressive but not good for her health. The coach should have make her stop, she can only weaken herself by playing more.

That was an absolutely lionhearted performance by Chak! I don't know what it is about these Russians, but they sure as heck build them tough. :) Anna was so physically spent, but she just kept willing herself to keep on playing. She looked totally out of it in that 2nd set, but somehow she was still able to play some great tennis. She was just bossing the points, and had poor Caro in full scramble mode again and again. For me, that was absolutely priceless to watch, but when she collapsed on the court, I said to myself, "Alright Anna, you've proved your point. Please throw in the towel now." Nope, she still didn't want to give up. I understand why she came back out after the medical timeout though. The timeout was like a breather for her, and her eyes looked much clearer by the time it had ended. She probably said to herself, "Well, I'm not dizzy anymore. Let me give it a try." To tell you the truth, I couldn't be any prouder of Chak after watching that match. It ranks right up there with the Fed Cup tie in Israel for sure. I just hope that she takes however much time off as she needs to. She's earned it. :worship:
