Beyonce to Headline Glastonbury Festival

GLOBAL SUPERSTAR BRINGS HER ELECTRIFYING STAGE SHOW TO WORLD'S BIGGEST FESTIVAL THIS SUMMER IN SOUTH WEST ENGLAND

TAKES PYRAMID STAGE ON CLOSING NIGHT

SUNDAY, JUNE 26, 2011

NEW YORK, Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Beyonce is set to be a headliner at England's Glastonbury Festival this summer. The five-day festival, billed as the largest green-field music and performing arts festival in the world, will play to an expected audience of 200,000, on Worthy Farm, Pilton in South West England at the end of June. The global superstar will be the headliner on the last day of the festival on Sunday, June 26, for an electrifying 90-minute set on the Pyramid Stage.

Music fans around the world last saw Beyonce live on stage during her yearlong I AM...WORLD TOUR, which ended in February 2010. The tour played 108 shows in 78 cities in 32 countries on six continents to 1.1 millions fans in Europe, Asia, South America and the US.

Beyonce, who is currently in the studio working on new music, attended Glastonbury Festival in 2008 as a fan and is excited to return as a headliner. "This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend," she said. "I'm pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy."

The recently-released, I AM...WORLD TOUR full-length concert DVD, with its never-before-seen, intimate footage of the star around the world, quickly became the best selling concert DVD of 2010 in the US.

Beyonce has been nominated for two GRAMMY ® awards, including Best Pop Female Vocal Performance ("Halo" (Live)) and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals ("Telephone" with Lady Gaga.)

The 53rd Annual Grammy ® Awards, airs live on February 13th on CBS, 8pm ET/PT.

Huge news, wonder how regular Glastonbury go-ers feel about this, any on this board? This is great news though, I really wish I had tickets! :fiery:

Even if you despise Beyonce, you have to admit it's a nice idea. Glastonbury has really opened itself up to mainstream pop acts performing there over the last five years or so despite all the criticism this has inevitably received.

I'm shocked by this, though.

Considering they had Jay-Z a few years before, can't be too shocked?

Jay-Z had been around for years before that and was renowned as being one of the best rappers of his generation, with a critically acclaimed back catalogue which had been written by himself as well as conducting several other music projects, such as setting up his own very successful record label. Plus, he's far more well-received in this kind of music circle than Beyonce is.

The last sentence was probably the most important one. Very interested to see the reception.

I hope she prolongs her festival tour to Rock Werchter in Belgium four days later, I'd like to see her live once but I can't be bothered to buy a ticket to a concert of hers

Didn't Black Eyed Peas perform at Glastonbury?

If they can perform even someone like Miley bloody Cyrus can.

You already know Bee is gonna steal the show! :worship:

More importantly (no offense), U2 and Coldplay :worship: Oh what I would do to go!

I got to see Jay Z when he supported U2 in Melbourne in December, he was fantastic! We were hoping Bee would join him on stage as she was in Melbourne too, but it wasn't to be.

It's a great line-up, no doubt about it! Some of the best live acts anywhere in the world.

Coldplayn U2 and Arcade Fire! Now that's a line-up to die for. (I could do without Beyoncé). Glastonbury's had some disappointing line-ups in the last couple of years but this year's looking really good. Lucky people who have tickets!

I'm going to Werchter to see Coldplay. I was hoping Arcade Fire would come as well (even though they came last year), but they're playing Main Square festival on Saturday.
