In what comes as a shock to fans and fellow artists a like Ciara has apparently been dropped from long-term record label Jive. Things had been rumored to be rough when Ciara's manager and A&R changed in 2009 leaving the fate of her third album, Fantasy Ride, in the hands of a new team.
http://www.ology.com/music/report-ciara-dropped-jive-records
In the end the entire project was revamped from a three-disc concept album into a shoddily composed 12-track set which missed out on all of the wonderful collaborations which were promised. In December 2010, Ciara released "Basic Instinct, her fourth album. The collection supposedly brought fans back to the traditional Ciara sound, circa 2004. Despite receiving strong reviews from critics the album has to date racked sales of around 40k... a far cry from her previous albums. The failure of the album was put down to poor timing, lack of promotion and poor singles. The only exception was the lead single "Ride" with Ludacris, which reached top-ten on the R&B charts.
Recently, Ciara told fans that the album's highlight, "Turn It Up" (a high-paced/fast energy duet with Usher) would be the next single. According to All Access (WebCite query result) the single was due for radio adds on March 8, 2011. It has since been removed. Reports are now beginning to surface that Jive
finally pulled the plug on Ciara. Insiders say the singer is a drain on label resources because she does not know her artistry and is unable to pin down a unique sound. One insider said that "the label would rather invest in someone like Chris Brown who is proving successful on multiple formats".
Comments by Ciara to Gerrick Kennedy of the Los Angeles Times, where said to have angered label executives, especially when the singer said she wasn't bothered about album sales but saw the future and money in touring. Industry experts say that no one will pay for a tour for an artist who doesn't en-mass, citing Christina Aguilera's cancelled Bionic Tour as the prime example (Aggie is signed to Jive's sister label RCA). Ciara and Jive executives are said to have reached mutual terms to end their partnership, effective immediately. The singer was seen at the offices of Universal Music recently, and is believed to now be negotiating a new record deal with Interscope Records which would hopefully catapult the singer back into the lime light. When asked to comment both Jive and Ciara failed to respond.

Ugh oh, Jive is running out of money, they need Justin Timberlake to start making music again to save their ass! That label has so much deadwood its unreal. They could do with dropping a tonne of their artists and investing in finding new talent.
They need to cut loose:
Jordin Sparks
Li'l Mama
Cage the Elelphant
Britney Spears
Kris Allen
David Archuleta
Bowling For Soup
Bullet for My Valentine
....and plenty more. That would free up a lot of money for them and woul stem the bleed a lot!

She hasn't been relevant since 2004 and her competition has left her far far behind, she can't get the sales/press that singers like Ke$ha, Rihanna, GaGa etc can get!
If they're making most of their money of Britney surely they're in a lot of trouble, they need Justin back in the music game.

That sucks, her performance on Ellen was good though, her voice has gotten stronger. The urban dance/club songs just isn't working like it used to. I always thought why is she singing, she can't, now I feel sorry for her. :sorry:
Maybe she can get with Missy and make another hit......ahhh nope, Work didn't do much either. I hope she gets another deal somewhere.
She's talented, she needs to work on being a vocalist.

I don't even feel like going back and forth with you. You can belive that if you want but it's not true. You'll see her take over again in March.
What's the idea behind the Cedric nickname?
I think it dates back to the "Ciara is a man" rumors but I'm not sure.

Does anyone else think that Ciara trying so hard to "sell sex" (and failing) these last couple years contributed greatly to her downfall?
Some people also think Ciara's downfall has to do with her becoming more a red-carpet celeb hanging out with Kim and not focusing on her own career...

That doesn't make any sense when that's all Rihanna and Beyonce do anyways. I think the songs just don't resonate with people for some reason. And her voice isn't exactly spectacular so that didn't help much.

AMERICAN R&B star Ciara warmed up for Saturday’s gig at the Borrowdale Racecourse by sampling the local hospitality at a Harare nightclub on Friday night.
Ciara arrived in Harare on Thursday, followed by 'Put Your Lighters Up' star Lil’ Kim and DJ Scratch on Friday. Hit maker Timbaland and Fat Joe were set to arrive in time for the evening gig.
‘Goodies’ star Ciara had earlier addressed a press conference where she admitted she had not heard of Zimbabwe before she was booked.
She was criticised for apparently snubbing her fans when she arrived on Thursday, and she went all out to make up for that at Fusion.
The 25-year-old took the microphone and thanked fans for their love before taking a seat in the VIP area. She stood up a few times to dance, drawing wild cheers from the crowd.
The singer was joined by a few girl pals. She downed a couple of Red Bulls while her friends treated themselves to some Cognac.
Lil’ Kim spent most of Friday in South Africa where she revealed she turned down opportunities to perform in Houston and Puerto Rico to come to Africa.
“It’s going to be absolutely crazy. I’m saving my best performances for all the people in Africa. Whatever songs you want, I will perform and only in my body suit,” she said.
The stars will perform in Zimbabwe before heading for South Africa where they are booked for three gigs.
They were brought to Africa by flamboyant South African businessman Kenny Kunene and his partner Gayton McKenzie. Their company ZAR Empire, owns a chain of upmarket nightclubs and restaurants in South Africa.
Kunene said they are launching a Zimbabwean subsidiary called ZAR Ent.
Known as 'Mr Sushy' in South Africa, Kunene has already left an impression on Lil' Kim.
“As I got out the airport, there was Kenny waiting for me by his Lamborghini, looking all fly," the singer said. “The man’s got style and lots of it."
The cheapest ticket for Saturday’s show was going for US$50.
Ciara didnt get dropped. she asked to get released out of her contract
Why? :o:confused:

What she posted on Facebook in February:
This week the net has been a buzz of the rumor that I have been dropped from my label. At this point that rumor is false.. It is true that I have asked and I pray that my label will release me. I have had some great times and success with my label, but sometimes like all great things, its at that point where I feel we don’t share the same views on who I am as a artist. The past two albums have been very frustrating for me. At times there were songs I chose to lead a project and I was ignored! This project, I even tried to get Gimmie Dat started I spent tens of thousands of my own money only to hear the radio pds tell me my label didn’t want the song played. I even spent more than one hundred thousand dollars out of my pocket on the video to bring my vision to it and still no label support. I do understand that some labels are not financially supporting their artists and I have become one of them. You, my fans, know that I strive to do my best to deliver to my you the best songs and creative vision I possibly can. I’m dedicated to my music, performance and to my fans! I’ve tried to be a team player with the label only to have compromised what I truly believed.. And was not given the right opportunity to promote and inform my fans of the release of this album..I have so much of me as a artist I still want to give to the world and my fans. A release would allow me to go be creative with people who care and understand me as a artist. In a short time, I will be able to bring to you a new music energy and a visual excitement! Thank you so much for standing by me through the good, bad, and the confusion. I love you all.
Love, Ciara.
