2011 is already turning into a better year for music industry with releases from The Decemberists, PJ Harvey and now The Strokes. Feels good. :)

Its been such a long wait for this album! Strokes is one of my fave bands (along with the Killers, KOL , Franz Ferdinand etc.)!

I know i've been excited for this album for so long. :sobbing: I really hope it something special!
The song is surprisingly upbeat. The song title had been out for a while and I was expecting something a lot darker.

I like the song. I'm confident they'll have better stuff on the album though.

It's nice to see a thread on this board about music which is made by actual musicians, for once. ;)

Does anybody else listen to The Arcade Fire? They're recent album was very good.

Arcade Fire is my favorite band. The new album was incredible. Fave songs: Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains), City With No Children, We Used to Wait, and Ready to Start. If they don't win the Grammy it'll be tragic. :o

Also dig The Stokes. The new song is great!

Great Choices! My favorites are City With No Children, Sprawl II, Empty Room, and We Used to Wait.

The Suburbs is my favorite of their albums.

As for The Strokes... I don't really have a favorite album. There are a number of tracks on each that I love. Will post a list later; I don't usually remember song names off the top of my head - Arcade Fire's recent album is the exception.

Neon Bible would have to be my favorite. Every single song on that album is stellar. The Strokes have a few standout tracks to me: Modern Age, What Ever Happened, and 12:51.

Theres only 10 tracks on Angles, but i'm all for quality over quantity.

And have to agree with you guys on The Suburbs. Amazing album.

i think nothing beats the debut album "is this it". that was such a fresh, spunky, short, sharp record. and it still is!

looking forward to "angles". i really hope it was worth the wait!

I've been looking forward to a new Strokes album for years. I just love them. But this is their last album, isn't it?

Excited but nervous about Julian's divaliciousness. :tape:

Uhh I don't think they have said anything like that, but it's no secret that they don't get along that great anymore :(

Just heard it today. The guitars are the best part, its good that they still have their usual sound. The vocals are turned down a bit and seem to be an accompaniment for the guitars. Good that they finished the album though. They had to junk most of the original recordings and redo them.

I liked his solo stuff, it was a bit like Strokes but some very different sounds as well

Just about every track on it was a classic, couldnt get enough of that sound. I like the similar sounding bands like Hives, White Stripes and Aussie band Van She.

I loved the episode of "Gossip Girl" where Julian's solo songs were played throughout it. The thing that worries me about this album is that in the article below they report that Julian recorded his vocals separately and how he's "relinquishing control". Something's not right with the band IMO.

^ I'm pretty sure that quote from Julian about 'relinquishing control' was from the first recordings produced by Joe Chicarelli. Everything was canned and I think they all started from scratch together.

I just listened to all of their albums again over the past couple of days, and I'm inclined to agree. The first half of that album is amazing, Take it or Leave it was a great ending, Hard to Explain is great in the back half, and there are only a couple songs that I tend to skip over.

My favorite song on the second album is probably I Can't Win. On the third, I like You Only Live Once, and Ask Me Anything. The third album is probably a bit long.

I friggin love so many Strokes songs. My favorite one is probably Automatic Stop. :worship:

Wait, I'm not gonna give you a break. I'm not your friend. I never was.

Jules is also ridiculously sexy. :smoke:

Another track from the record has been released as the b-side to UCoD.

I don't love that. I don't hate it, either, but meh. I like the first song they released better. I'll give this a couple more listens later - maybe it will grow on me.
