Any funny things that have happened to you while playing and/or watching tennis?
I don't have any really cuz I hardly play but I guess examples would be falling on the court (I fall all the time) and the racket slipping out of my hand when I was serving.
Oh I broke a racket once when I hit a really horrible backhand and the racket slipped out of my hand. It just cracked in half and I was so shocked and upset :sobbing: I was also a bit embarrased cuz I thought the people who I was playing with would think i did it deliberately.

I cant remember any hugely embarrassing moments but I have fallen over on my ass a number of times when running backwards for a smash. Thankfully not on hardcourt but a couple of times on clay and synthetic grass.

At tournament when I was younger,I had an overhead at the net and the racket whet flying out of my hand onto the other side of the court. The guy I was playing had to pick it up and hand it to me:sobbing: It was on one of the courts where lots of people hang around/watch matches too which made it even more embarrasing:o

Broken a racquet on a shanked overhead. Fallen over a couple of times. My friend once shanked a shot which ultimately had incredible spin on it and it just dropped over the net. I ran to get it and let out a Sharapova-esque grunt in front of about 20 people I didn't know who were waiting for the courts or on the adjacent courts. I just laughed it off. Some applauded me as I won the point.
Most the embarrassing things happen to my friend when I play him. I hit a really hard serve which hit him where no man should be hit. He still hasn't fully recovered from the damage to this day. It was about 5 years ago. I still laughed, and still do. Evil, but funny. Another time I played him, I hit a moonball winner.

I have fallen over and been hit by tennis balls one went through my legs like nutmegs  I have also hit volleys in doubles which go so high in the air and then bounce over the net like a couple of cms away and my coach has just looked at me as if to say how the hell did you do that. :) But never broken a racket. I did also hit a ball onto another court

i called myself a dildo very loudly (ok shouted it) during a mixed match, after missing a sitter of a drive volley. loud enough to stop the next 2 courts in their tracks and either tut or laugh at me.
i also had a match the same day as i got my 1st tattoo. it was a very hot day and the cling film over it to stop it getting infected would just not stay on. i had to apply a new square of cling film with tape every 3 or 4 games :help:

this was a friend at the tennis clubs way to try and get me to stop smashing rackets lol. it was on the notice board at the club for years!
I remember I was up 6-0,3-0 in a match (i think it was the 2nd round) and I served and the racquet flew out of my hands and smashed into the ground and it cracked and broke in half. It was the best one I had. It completely threw me off. I took another one and served 3 doubles faults in a row to lose the game and somehow won 6-0,6-4.

- I'm naturally VERY loud when I play, and do talk to myself at the third person. Swearing at myself. Sometimes, I just realize other people are around and find it embarassing.
- I'm really not a natural mover on clay (cow on ice, anyone?). I was playing in the provincial championships against a guy I'd beat 6-2 6-2 on hard court, was down 1-6 0-3, came back to 3-3, had a shot for 4-3. He hit a short loopy ball, I ran to it, but just totally made some long strides, my legs just splitted apart, I missed the easy backhand and yelled: ''Charles, you look like a f*cking giraffe''. Everyone started laughing, as I was playing on court 1.
- I was coaching on a court, then I hear a yell, turn around to see where it was coming from, and receive a ball right on my right eye, from the court beside us. Broke my glasses in two and had a huge black eye for a week, afterwards. I looked bad-ass, but everyone knew it had to be an accident ;)
- I have my own 'Embarassing moment with a pro player' story! :p For an exhibition thing in Quebec City (I was a ballboy), we had to play points against pro players. That year was Jidkova and Poutchek. I was hitting with Alina, and she decides to drop shot. I ran like no fatty kid (yes, I was fat) ever ran before, got to the ball, couldn't stop running, ran face first in the net, rolled into it, injured my elbow and knees, was bleeding. I was so ashamed and Alina was like: are you alright? Lovely, lovely.

Two things come to mind as most embarrassing... They're horrendously embarrassing too.
Once when i was playing tennis at about the age of 12-13 I was versing an older player (maybe about 30+) and he was about 6'4" or a bit over two metres anyway he dropped shotted me and I managed to slice it back short bringing him to the net while I was still there he hit it directly at me and I volleyed it up for a lob as he went to hit it I split stepped and farted putting him off and making him miss hit the ball straight into the back fence. He went on to tell everyone that I deliberately did it.
Another time I was really sick and I went to serve and got diahrrea, I was wearing white shorts and underwear and it was awful. These and the time got his in the nose and bled everywhere having to forfeit the match were probably the most embarrassing moments of my tennis career. Feelsbadman.jpeg

I hate it when you're playing indoors and the ball hits the frame, so it's going up to the ceiling with high speed, it makes BOOM when it hits the ceiling and everyone's looking at you what's going on :sobbing:

I remembered another embarrassing moment.... :sobbing:
once i was coaching a group of kids who were only a year or around that younger than me and some gross people came to the courts trying to steal tennis balls and I was all on my high horse and just yelled at them and told them to fuck off so they left the court, ten minutes later water balloons come flying over the tennis club house and all but one hit me and they were filled with pee. I still play tennis and now that I think of it I don't know why :sobbing:

I was younger, it was my first higher tennis class, first time I was playing on carpet inside, I back up for a balls hit the backhand then step back a little but I didn't anticipate that the courts were a bit more "sticky" because it was carpet soI fall on my back, make a full roulade and end up on my knees lol. Lucky me it was on the further courts so only the other kid that were in the class saw me. What an introduction though

Hmmm, the only moment I can think of is playing some school 2 divisions higher than us in doubles. I was at net and the baseliner smacked one down the line at me and knocked my racket out of my hand flying outside the doubles alley. The ball went in, but then my partner was playing alone as I ran to pick my racket up off the ground. Quite funny. Damn sweaty palms.:p

Well, ONE of my most embarrasing moments on court was when i ran into a chair . We we're doing a change over, the water was right in front of the chair. So, i kneel down to take a quick sip. I then jolted back up (forgeting the chair was there) and flipped over it and landed head/upper back first into my opponents chair. :help::lol:. People were like...are u ok...are u ok. After they saw i was cracking up about it, the whole place erupted into laughter at my 3 stooges like fall :p

Ehhhh it wasnt that funny for him but I hit a smash into my opponents face when he was waving his arms at the net to put me off. It was an accident but couldnt happen at a better time. He fell over, I was 6-3 4-1 up at the time so it didnt matter much.

Oh, and once I tore apart my shorts while playing.
A few years ago, I was playing with my father at the neiborhood's tennis courts which are very next to the community pool whom was closed at that moment.
He hit one ball over the fence straight into the pool.
He climbs over the fences to go and get it but he made the fatal mistake to sit before jumping down.
Torn his shorts and his flashy underwear apart.
All the players were laughing while I was :haha:

Some of these stories make me feel a lot better about the few that I've had over the years!
I haven't had too many actually, but most of them seem to be tragic overhead attempts - Missed a couple out of the air completely lol, and another time it somehow managed to hit my frame and into my face  Needless to say, I can probably count on one hand the amount of overheads I hit through an entire year :p

A couple of weeks ago my opponent hit a high lob, it was a sunny day so I looked up and I squinted real hard trying to get a look at the ball, but I couldn't really see it, anyway I lined up my shoulders to go for it... before I knew it the ball landed on my face and I had barely even swung the racket to even hit the ball. So embarassing. Droolv from this forum saw it...but then again he had an embarasing moment like a minute afterwards too. :p

Only the standard things. Tried to volley, ball clipped frame and smacked me hard in the face.
Also running after a lob, lost all sense of balance looking up and over my shoulder, momentum from the off-balanceness meant I could either keep running to regain my balance (although I would have to smack into a fence before I got there), or just give up and fall down, I chose the latter and ripped everything open on the rough public-park surface I was playing on. Bloody hurt!!

I played for a private catholic college so we had priests/brothers at some of our matches with other schools. It was a pretty important fixture and my singles match was the clinching point, basically a make or break moment for our season. I was up 5-0 in the third set and my opponent started playing a whole lot better without any pressure, and I crumbled. He ended up winning 7-6 and I went into a cursing tirade, launching balls over the fence, and broke my racket. People were shocked since i am pretty reserved on court, but the look on the priests's faces were unforgettable, like they saw a ghost.
Embarrassing, when i see a pro player choke away a lead I always get flashbacks.

We also played some doubles on the side for fun, and I had one of the brothers (70+ years old) on my team. We were on the ad-side of the court and I asked him to move to the right so I can serve it down the tee without hitting him. I serve it up, and the ball nails him right in the back of the head, the sound was like a racketball hitting the wall. I tried so hard to keep a straight face but it's impossible when my teammates are rolling on the floor on the other side of the net.
